Shadow Love that’s Inside Out
"All Riley really wants in life is romantic love. She dreams about it every night and day, much to her father’s chagrin. But with a sudden move to a new country and a different culture, instant love hardly seems likely. Or is it? “Beware of shadow love ...” her former best friend warns her. But surely she couldn’t mean the harmless looking Riya. She is a pretty girl with goth clothing and thick, black hair yet there lies a vulnerability underneath. Riley is helplessly drawn to her. As she stares into Riya’s unsettling, hazel eyes, Riley realizes that she just may have found the girl of her dreams ...and possibly her nightmares. A love story with unusual characters. The beginning in particularly reminded me of Pixar’s ‘Inside and Out’ which also stars a character named Riley who is forced into a sudden move and a new school. The difference is that this Riley is a full-fledged teenager with more complex motivations. Author Goth Jay has a way with dialogue that I admire and am a little jealous of to be perfectly frank. She knows how to make it clear who is talking without the use of distracting dialogue tags. I’m still working at the skill. Lol. Anyway this a vampiric romance story that still manages to be about ordinary love."

"A pretty average story at best. Here are some criticisms I found: (-) Cover I don't think it's very attractive, and a lot of people pay attention to this sort of thing. (-) Dialogue Riley does not talk like a teenager at all. Neither does Criss. And the conversations are all pretty basic. (-) Writing Style It doesn't pull me in at all. I'm all for a girl/girl romance but if the focus of it is school, it has to be at least interesting. It would also help if you would go more into her emotions, feelings and the world around her."
