Prologue

February 10th, 1999-

The family of three was going home after a week on a business trip, A mother, a father and a 16 year old daughter, for her age she was very bright and happy. She was the bubbly personality kind of girl, just starting to take a serious interest in boys, something that her father was not too fond of. Her father was a scientist, she liked science, so she came with him on these trips, they didn’t have much in the way of money, and her father was the only provider at the moment with her mother out of work. Her father had just gotten a major contract that might really change things for them. The young girl kept looking out the window, she pictured herself in a few months from now, maybe a year and she would be driving a car of her own. The thrill of having her freedom, even on a small level, it was the most that she had ever had, and deep inside she really felt she was ready for it.

Both of the young girl’s parents had dark hair, as did she, and looked relatively good for being the parents of a sixteen year old. The mother reached out and turn on the radio, the song “Bad Moon Rising by Credence Clearwater Revival” was playing. It was set on one of those classic rock stations, older songs like this one was all they played, it was all the young girl’s mother listened to. A bridge was coming up that lead over the river so the father slowed down, aside from it being winter the bridge was only two lanes wide and he saw a transport truck headed in the opposite lane. This wasn’t the way that they had intended to take, but with that damn pile up on the freeway, it would take hours to clear it and they would be lucky if they made it back by nightfall. He suddenly lost control of the car, it slid over a patch of black ice. The car slid out to the middle of the bridge before stopping, the truck driver slammed on the breaks, but couldn’t stop it, the transport truck and the small car collided smashing it off the bridge and into the river.

The young girl smashed her head against the seat in front of her when the car impacted the water. Her vision went blurry, the last thing she remembered was her parents screaming her name, “Kelley!” and trying to open the car’s door, it sank and was dragged along by the river. That and the song playing, like it was the theme music to a death scene, then, it all faded to black.
