Prologue

There was once a time when life was simpler. A time when life was safer. A time when the sun would shine everywhere, all day, every day. However, life is very different now.

Nothing can stop the darkness, not our gates, our locks, our bars, or even our bolted doors. None of these serve as any form of protection now. The light is the only shield from the darkness. Our only hope.

The world is dying. The sun only shines for a short time each day, before disappearing to allow the darkness to consume everything in its path. The darkness is everywhere. It’s moving. It is not like the darkness that was once known by all, harmless and empty.

Now the darkness is alive, an entity that consumes anything and everything it touches. The darkness grows each day, consuming entire towns, villages and cities in its wake of destruction. No plants, animals or people can survive in the darkness. However, the darkness contains a horde monstrous creatures within it.

There is one however, that is something truly evil. Something that resides in the darkness with a thirst for the blood of men. Beasts that live without fear, except for that of the light.

No one knows what lives in the darkness, no one has ever ventured into the darkness without light and returned.

How the Earth died no one knows but that is what I am trying to find out. To fully understand this tale, this story needs to start way back in the very beginning.
