As Maple and Tom walked inside, and started to work. Ginger sat down, her fur wet with sweat. “God, it’s so hot out here.” Ginger said, putting her arm across her forehead. “I know,” answered Maple, as she sit down on the concrete floor. The dawn would stay forever- making the foxes wonder why there was even a sky, and if wasn’t just black. The dim-lit workshop had oil on the floor, there was no roof, the walls used to have red wallpaper, but it was torn and broken. The floor was cracked marble, in the cracks was dried mud, clearly someone tried to fix the floor at sometime. “Maple, Ginger, you guys want some water?” Tom said, getting cups and putting them in the slot in the water purifier. “Please.” Ginger said, sitting on the ground. As they all drank the water, they stood up, as Maple walked outside the ruins, and took the electrical fence. Her arms rested in the gaps between the fence, her paws in the bottom gaps, as she climbed it, sitting on the top, she swung her legs back and forth. Tom came out, as he climbed up the fence, and sat with her. “Tom,” Maple said, as she faced him, “I know pressure, and- it- it’s hard. But, we can do this together, right? I mean, it’s not like our lives will get better after this..” Maple said, as she stopped swaying her legs. “It could. I mean, maybe we’ll be back in school, all three of us.” Tom said, as he put his paw on her shoulder. “But.. we won’t be together. It was so wrong of me to get us stuck here anyway- I should have listened to you, and never tried to jump the fence..” Maple said, as she turned away, as she hid her face in between her legs. Tom sighed, “no. It’s not your fault. You could’ve lost your leg if we never helped you, so I would have rather helped you, besides, you’re my best friend.” Tom said, as Maple sat up, facing forward. “Just remember, this plan goes wrong, we’re dead.” Maple said, hopping down from the fence. “Yeah..” Tom said, walking forward, hands in his pockets and his head facing to the ground.
