Chapter 1
The school bell rang, students flooding the halls, heading to their next destination and for this ordinary gal that was room 214. The door creaked open as she walked in surreptitiously, greeting her professor.
“Pardon, this is the English class right?”
She was facing a young man with ginger hair and freckles, he had green eyes like the finest emerald in the world, and he wore a black suit.
“Yes, good morning, I assume you’re the new student, my name is Mr. Bradley,
why don’t you introduce yourself to everyone?”
The woman walked in further, her nerves realling, setting in, “Hello, er... my name is Erin, I’m seventeen, I just moved here from Texas, and I...uh enjoy playing volleyball.”
As Erin walked to an empty seat near the back of the class near a window, sweat ran down her forehead. There were at least five students staring at Erin when she sat down. She even jumped a little when the late bell rang.
“Alright class, settle down, we’ll be covering…” Mr. Bradley started as he stood up and walked to the whiteboard, writing the topic for the day…
Mr. Bradley’s English class really wasn’t too different from what Erin had been used to, there was always a basic routine.
Get your textbook, flip to a page number, usually in the hundreds for some odd reason, I never see a teacher have us flip to a page under fifty.. Huh; anyways, we just end up going from person to person reading a paragraph at a time.
As she was mid-thought, the bell rang, this time the tone was different. Must be for lunch
Erin sat down near one of the more excluded tables in the back. I’m just now realizing how lonely I really am.
A few guys and a girl among them in a very dress codeable outfit approached the table, the guys wore blue and yellow jerseys with ripped jeans. There were small conversations and snickering behind the girl like they were judging Erin. They all had very disgusted looks on their faces, and finally one of them spoke.
“Hey, brat! Don’t you know where you are? This is our table so you’re gonna have to move before you regret it,” the girl said.
“Yeah! Scram!” One of the guys that were obviously crushing on her yelled enthusiastically.
All these guys look like they’re falling head over heels for this one girl who doesn’t seem to care one bit. They all really just looked like the girls’ lackeys.
“I ain’t movin one bit, I got here first so I get first dibs, plus, y’all don’t own this table,” Erin said, taking a bite of her pumpkin spice muffin, giving them a cold look.
“If you’ll excuse me, I just remembered my sign-up sheet for Volleyball, I gotta fill that out before I leave, if y’all could all just leave?” now pulling out a yellow paper from her bag. Erin started filling out the sheet in Infront of them, pretty much ignoring all their rude remarks.
“Give me that!” One of the guys said, snatching the paper from Erin’s hands and dangling it higher than she could reach.
“Give that back,” Erin said seriously, her expression getting stiffer. Erin stood up abruptly, jumping for the sheet, I couldn’t lose this opportunity! As soon as Erin landed her failed attempt to grab the sign-up sheet, she sank. Erin wasn’t being dramatic, she physically sank into the floor. Erin could feel her consciousness getting farther and farther from her grasp. Erin reached out for the light but it was too far, she was consumed by the darkness quickly. The last thing she could hear before falling hostage to the darkness was all the guys yelling, footsteps fading quickly, then silence.
Erin woke up, but she wasn’t in the cafeteria anymore, she wasn’t even in a building now. Erin found herself in the middle of a bright green forest, the sun shone through the trees, illuminating anything the remaining sunlight could touch.
Erin looked down to see her clothes were different too; she wore a leather top and skirt with a green cloak. Her hair drooped down to her stomach, revealing it was white instead of dark brown. Erin’s newly colored hair was glowing in the hot sun, which was also shocking to her, earlier that day it had been snowing, the air was cold with murderous intent. But now it was hot, the trees had lush leaves and the grass was bright green, it was spring, almost summer.
“What is going on?! Where am I?!” She questioned the surrounding deer and squirrels.
A large white wolf approached Erin slowly, baring its teeth. Soon, however, it eventually seemed to recognize her and started to charge at her like a puppy who hasn’t seen its owner in a few months.
“D-do I know you..?!” Erin exclaimed, scrambling to get out from under the giant wolf’s grasp. The mysterious wolf then dropped a berry in her mouth. Erin really didn’t have much of a choice but to eat it, so she did.
A flash appeared in her vision then BANG! Erin was a little kid, running in the street with a puppy but it looked like a regular-sized wolf. It was the same white wolf Erin had received the berry from earlier. Am I reliving someone’s past? Is this me?
“Erin sweetie! Come on inside, quickly!” Erin’s mother said urgently. She had also been looking back and forth across the streets nervously.
“Okay mom, I’m coming, let me just get Gemini!” Erin shouted back, running over to a small table on the side of our yard. A few amber sparks landed near Erin on the grass. Just as she heard her parents yelling, Gemini grabbed the overall strap with her teeth and pulled Erin away from the house quickly.
“Mom! Dad!? W-what-?” Erin was wriggling and kicking the dirt around herself and Gemini, she was in horror as she realized every house, shop, you name it, was on fire. Erin had been bawling her eyes out by the time Gemini had pulled her onto her back and out of the town. Right before they left the town Erin saw a couple of guards with armor that shined brightly; they were walking around laughing audibly. Erin reached out for the guards but quickly lost sight of them. Where is Gem taking me? Why is everything on fire? Why weren’t those guys helping?!
Erin passed out after a while from struggling; Gemini had been carrying her far from town and when she awoke they were surrounded by the tallest pine trees Erin had ever seen, the sun gleamed overhead making the grass nice and warm.
“Gem..? Where’s the village?” Erin asked, sliding off her back and onto the soft grass. A little ‘Humph’ came after she slid due to how big Gemini really was. Where are mom and dad..? Where am I? Erin asked herself.
Erin breathed in slowly, her realization started. “I can’t get distracted, I’m on my own now, I just have to move forward.”
