Chapter 1 Failed Engagement 1
The little room in a five star hotel was decorated with the best and most expensive decorative materials in the in Las Vegas.
It was not the first time Henry Philmont was celebrating his girlfriends birthday party, as it's been six years now. Infact her birthday is the most anticipated day between their friends, cause of the event that always occurred.
Henry Is a wealthy business man, who is a definition of handsome and good-looking. Many female always drool at his presence, and that's one of the things that got Ruth head over heels for him. This days she still loved him, but not as much as six years back.
For her birthday this year, Rose wanted something else. She was tired of getting endless customized jewelries and beauty accessories, or cars and houses. She was an established woman herself, she could get those things whenever she wanted. At the age of 25, all she wanted was to get married. Not really on her terms, but the pressure from her family was getting really unbearable.
They were aware of Ruth and Henry's long term relationship, and wondered why the man hasn't proposed yet. According to her mother,
"Ruth you're not getting any younger neither am I, so I would love to see my grandchildren before leaving earth at least". Maggie said to her daughter.
"Yes that's true, what's Henry saying about your marriage plans". Her grandma Fifi asked this time.
"Grandma, let's not rush him, he'll definitely propose when the times right".
"No, there's no other right time than now".
Maggie disagreed immediately. "Why not have a word with him, and tell him you're not getting any younger and that you two must get married quickly. You've been dating for a long time now". Her grandma proposed.
"But...." "No buts Ruth, if you're scared of telling him, I can speak to his family about it". Maggie suggested. "That would not be necessary mother, I'll talk to Henry myself". Ruth only had to agree to their words, to avoid further arguments.
She wondered what they'd do if they eventually found out she's had several abortions cause Henry said he's not ready yet.
The claps and screams of the people present in the room, brought her back to reality as she let out a sigh and quickly covered it up with a bright smile. A woman must learn to always put up a smile on her face no matter the pain she's going through. It's just in our nature they say.
Henry's pals were present at the party, that includes his sister Lisa and brother Raymond. Her girls couldn't make it to the party, since they were all on a business trip at Dubai.
"Happy birthday, to the one woman I love so much and would like to spend the rest of my life with". He started for different awws to fill the room. She knew most women were envious of her cause of Henry and would love to take her position if only the man would look at them.
Henry brought out a tiny box, not the usual big one like in her other parties and Ruth's eyes lit up. These Is it, Henry was going to propose to her tonight before everyone present in the room.
In the next few seconds she is going to be Mrs Philmont. Oh, her mother and grandma are so going to get so many teases from her. She would prove to them finally that patient is the best virtue.
"You know I love you so much my love!" She nodded to his words, blushing already. "Well, I decided to grant you your most desirable wish and I got you, your most anticipated shadow diamond necklace worth 20 million dollars". He opened the box as everyone screamed and clapped with joy that they didn't notice the 2 seconds sadness on Ruth's face.
"A diamond necklace is that all!" Though Ruth had a smile on her lips, there was evident pain in her voice. She wanted just one thing, one thing that seems so impossible, one thing that she couldn't have and did not think she will ever get.
"Yes..., You don't like it?" "No no no, I_ I like it, I mean I love it. It's so beautiful!" She took it from him with a smile.
"Turn around, let me wear you that!" He pulled her hair to the side and fixed the necklace around her neck. Ruth didn't know how long she could put up this smile before everyone cause her cheeks were burning. All she wanted to do now was to cry, but if she does she'd ruin her 3500 dollars make up. And not only that, people will see her in a different light.
"Excuse me, I need to use the rest room!" She got up at her words, and left for the restroom. Ruth was furious and needed some air to calm down. Just on her way down the stairs, she crashed into something hard that made her loose her balance, but before she could fall backwards, he held her waist and pulled her to himself.
"What is wrong with you, let me go you nuisance!" She yelled at him hitting his head with her purse and he finally let her go. "Adrian are you alright!" A lady rushed up to him. "Why did you hit him that way, lady can't you see he's drunk!" Becca spoke to the woman in an elegant dress with pouted lips.
"If he's fucking drunk keep him at bail, and don't let him wonder about. I shouldn't be the one to give you lessons on what children younger than your age range already know!"
"Why are you so mean, it's just an accident we're sorry!" Becca said helping the man who could not even raise his face. "What's going on here?" Henry stepped out after a friend told him his girlfriend was in a mess. He knew what she wanted but he was just not ready to give it to her.
Ruth used to be the type of woman he loved until she became successful, at first it was fun, but what's the fun in buying a gift for your woman when you know she can afford it, and even afford double of it. He knew they've come a long way, but how can he just brake up with her after so many years.
"This fool just had to hit me right now, and the only excuse they had is that he's drunk!" Ruth said furiously. She was already upset about today, she had thought earlier that today was going to be the day, but today's like everyother year. One birthday settings, one face of friends to attend, and the only things that would have made it special forever was not done.
Everything inched her body, and she wanted to scream and cry. The pain of wanting to cry but having no way of releasing it drove her crazy. She didn't want to be mad at Henry tonight, he's done so much for her.
