Time After Time (Short Story)
It was morning again but this time I didn’t wake up in my room. Instead, I was in a small 4 cornered room with only enough space for a bed and maybe a nightstand. All the walls were white with some cracks and there was a door directly in front of my bed. The door buzzed and a man walked in. “Ah. You’re finally awake!” The man said. “Hello Zeline. My name is Dr. White. We brought you here because we found you roaming around last night” I don’t trust him. I shouldn’t trust him. “Going forward,” he started, “You will be staying here. This is your home now. WE want you to feel welcome here so i’ll show you around your new home. Follow me this way.”
He showed me the cafeteria where some people were sitting and chatting or eating and the room where they kept all the games and activities. He showed me other rooms but they didn’t matter to me. He stopped me in front of my door once again and whispered to me, “ Remember to not leave your room after hours.” He shoved me off to my room. “ Why can’t I come out after hours?” I growled. It was too late. He was already long gone and away from sight.
When I walked back into my room, there was a short girl who looked to be about 12, 3 years younger than me. “ You shouldn’t trust him.” She whispered.
“Who the hell are you and why are you in my room?!” I asked, in a more defensive way than I intended.
“QUIET! Not so loud...they can hear us. My name is Dola!” She replied, care not to make too much noise.“ And I want to help you escape from here.” she smirked at me.
“Tonight?” I asked.
“Sure, tonight it is then,”She replied. She winked at me then walked out of my room.
It felt like years since she left as I was anxious to escape this place. At around 10:00 p.m., she snuck back into my room and sat down on the bed next to me. “Everyone except the head man, Dr. White should be asleep. We should go now.” She whispered.
“Lead the way Dola.” I whispered back.
She led me down the long hallway and around many corners, 8 to be exact. There was a light coming from the 9th hallway we went down and as we got closer we saw Dr. White closing a patient’s door. He met our gaze. “Didn’t I tell you to not leave your room after hours?!” He yelled.
“Grab the gasoline and pour it on him.” Dola whispered. I did as I was told and poured it all on him.
“WAIT PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO HER ZELINE SHE’S NOT THERE!” He screamed.
“Now light him on fire and run.” I took the match box, lit a flame, and mumbled under my breath,“Goodbye Dr. White.”I whispered, then I threw the match and ran. His horrifying screams of agony echoed through the halls. Suddenly She was gone. It was morning again but this time I didn’t wake up in my room. The door buzzed and a man walked in.“Ah, You’re Finally awake!”
