“Scotlyn’s serious expression drew Charley’s attention…Do you realize where we are?... At that point, Scotlyn wished she could be at home with her mother, safe, unharmed, and feeling protected... Suddenly they heard footsteps approaching; they were terrified and unsure of what to do... Scotlyn looked around for a place to hide and only saw the huge fireplace that stood behind them. It wasn’t much of a hiding spot, but it was the closest they could get, so she grabbed hold of Charlie, made a dash for the fireplace, and hid in its corners with their backs pressed tightly against the wall... When she looked around the kitchen, she saw a frying pan and a large butcher’s knife on the counter…
Charlie Look at that enormous butcher knife on the counter and thought “if that person catches us hiding in their kitchen, they’ll believe we broke in and could use that big butcher knife for something other than cooking…” Scotlyn Looked at the butcher’s knife on the counter and considered hiding it,… the woman pursued them, nearly Jabbing Charlie’s hand… She attempted to break out of the spell, she could see and hear her, but she was unable to communicate… Something overpowered her thoughts… She needed to convey to Charlie and Ivy that Landington was indeed mysterious.
It wasn’t simply a myth or an oversimplified depiction of a small town; it was real, and it was being revealed right in front of their eyes… She jolted out of her trance, terrified, recognizing she’d had another episode and wondering what was causing her to have the reflections… They had uncovered more than they could have ever Imagined, She began to rethink the seriousness of “Mission Effort Truth about Landington” and the effects that their decisions were causing. Was their decision to open pandora’s box even worth destroying her mother’s dream to live in Landington, was it worth sacrificing the peace and happiness that her mother was beginning to enjoy? Was it worth it to put their own lives in danger or to ruin the lives and happiness of all the innocent people who loved and lived in Landington?... She felt horrible for not listening to the warnings, and as a result, residents who had lived in Landington their whole lives, safe and unaware of the unwritten laws, would have stayed that way until she arrived.
Both physically and mentally, Scotlyn had taken on more than a twelve-year-old girl could bear. Her reckless curiosity had put her and the others in far greater danger than they had imagined, and it was all because her motivation was pure, but her plans to pursue it were misguided... They were already in over their heads, and she had no clue that their suspicions of the town would lead them to many peculiar places, and to uncover a historic secret so powerful that they are at a loss for what to do.… She was terrified of what was unfolding, but little did she know it was only the beginning of their troubles”.
