coffee shop

The coffee shop on the corner of 5th and 8th ave is crowded, this early in the morning. It’s quiet enough that no one seems to mind it except for the two girls sitting at an empty table in the far corner of the café, I go outside to get my normal coffee, and there she is, leaning against the brick wall and sipping her own drink as if she’d been waiting for me all along my best friend Eve. That’s when I start wondering why she puts up with waiting for me maybe she actually likes this place, or she came here so often cus it’s usually pretty busy during the mornings anyway. I mean she doesn’t need the money yet she works here, I don’t see any other people around so I take it as a sign and walk over to join her. “Hey,” I say putting my order down. She smiles, giving me a nod and turning her attention back out the window. “Is this gonna be long?” She nods again, “Only a few more minutes, though they’re letting the last of the customers in now so it shouldn’t take too long.” I make myself comfortable at the table across from hers while she takes another sip of her drink. It’s hot today but I still want my coffee “EVE I can’t wait this long your my best friend help me out here“! I look at the clock, it read 7:35 am. “What time do you finish?” I ask “Around 8,” she replied after checking the time. This was gonna be way too long I thought “You have to go to work soon don’t you?” I say “fine here it’s someone else’s coffee but it’s just like ur order just with ice“ “MK, “ I say I grab it and get into my’s car “ill be back on my lunch break at 8:15,” I say “k love u bye“!! I waves goodbye, I lean forward, and blow her a kiss which makes her blush I drive off waving my hand in a goodbye motion before pulling out onto the main street.

I’m not exactly sure how much time passed when I started driving I’m at work when my phone buzzed in my back pocket. I pull out my phone and check the caller id and I smile seeing it’s Eve who I’m supposed to meet in front of the cafe I reply and put my phone back in my purse, I look over at my watch and notice it’s almost 8:10. I turn left onto Main then right onto 8th Avenue, I glance back over at my phone again and see that Eve texted me again, I put my phone away and focus on the road instead. The car ride was pretty peaceful after that and after about 5 minutes or so we arrive at our destination. Eve walks up to me as I park the car and gives me a quick hug. “Hey! You came on time, I was worried for a while there.” She laughs and leads me inside. The cafe is pretty busy this time of day but that’s nothing new. I’m pretty used to it by now. We grab an outdoor table, it’s a little cooler than normal. After grabbing two coffees Eve takes her seat across from me. “So what did you have planned?” She asked me sipping her drink.

“Well, I was hoping that maybe we could go grab breakfast together. It’s been forever since I had anything other than coffee,” I say looking down into my own coffee. ”I meant for your birthday silly I mean ur turning the big 18,” Eve says laughing, I roll my eyes but can’t hide my smile. “Of course.” I take a sip of my coffee and sigh. “It’ll be fun,” I say taking another sip of my drink and nodding, Eve smiles at me, and puts her hand on mine, her fingers intertwining with mine and giving them a light squeeze, she’s always had such a soft touch. “Anyway, why don’t you tell me about your weekend?” She asks taking another sip. “Well, I spent most of it reading. But I also went to a few events, and I also saw how things are pretty rough between you and your mom lately’ Eve says “I mean it’s not that bad it’s just going to be the first birthday without her”. This reminds me, I haven’t forgotten about your birthday yet! What do you want?” Eve asks Eve smiles at me still sipping her drink. “Nothing really,

I guess some chocolate. Or like some flowers maybe?” I laugh, and Eve nods. “Yeah yeah okay I don’t want anything nice just something fun.” I say ” ok and if that’s what makes you happy, then that’s what I’ll get for you Gia,” Eve replies laughing, Eve shakes her head and takes another sip of her drink before saying. “I wish I had more free time to make you things I know that you’ll love”. “That’s fine Eve. It’s a great thing though, and thank you for thinking of me,” I reply. “Oh, and one other thing Gia?” Eve add. I look at her curiously. “Do you think it would be okay to invite my boyfriend? Eve asks “of course you can, you the one throwing me a party invite whoever you want but please don't invite your brother he makes me uncomfortable because he always asks for my number and tries to flirt with me,” I say “oh ok, that’s fine I won't invite him then” Eve answer
