"Fab story that takes a different twist on the vampire mythos. Oscar is sweet and funny, Ivy is a character I heavily empathise with. The twists and turns of the story keep the plot moving and there is a lot of emotion beneath the surface which tugs at you. I recommend highly."

"Oh this was so much fun. I love anything to do with vampires (except Twilight, but that’s a story for another day) but this was such a unique take on the idea. I love Ivy and Oscar’s dynamic, it’s hilarious, and Ivy’s dry sense of humour throughout the narrative was the icing on the cake. I’ve read your work before and loved your writing style, and the same could be said here. You toe the line wonderfully between showing and telling and always keep things moving at the perfect pace, and your character interactions outside of Oscar and Ivy (especially the one between Ivy and her mom) are top notch, even if it’s a smaller interaction. I didn’t see any grammar mishaps as far as I could tell, maybe a few places where you could break up some ideas with a comma, but nothing huge. Overall, like I said, this was so much fun. I chuckled quite a few times while reading and was thoroughly engaged the whole time. Really amazing job with this!"
What a refreshing Joy To Read
"When I finally came across this title, I had a chuckle in my heart and had to ask, ‘How do you keep a vampire happy?’ Then I started the most unusual story I have come across in a long time. I was quite shocked. I was laughing out loud while reading. Who would have thought that a depressed vampire, suffering from slough could be so intriguing? Add to him a high-strung human and a failed vampire hunter with an inferiority complex and you have the makings of a great story. What I enjoyed about the story so far was that Oscar the vampire in question was not like those romanticized in Hollywood movies or pop culture. He had issues and suffered through them. Also, Ivy was not quick to judge him for his issues but chose to help him get part of his out-of-control life in order, even if it was cleaning a room. When Archie is introduced I was expecting Oscar to react poorly, but I found myself impressed with his apathy and indifference making him relatable. This has the makings to be one of the funniest stories I have come across in a great while and I highly recommend it. The characters are well balanced and well crafted with unique backstories and traumas. This is not a cookie-cutter boy meets girl and life is all rainbows and ponies. This is a nitty gritty story about life and overcoming adversity. "
Quirky and Heartfelt
"Pop culture and vampire enthusiasts would argue that vampires are undeniably sexy, dangerous, and have an air of dark allure around them. Oscar Davenport possesses none of these attributes, yet I challenge anyone reading this story to argue that is precisely what makes him such a likeable and sympathetic character. Vampires: How to Keep them Happy is a quirky take on vampires, and its main protagonist—though he was turned in the 1800s—is remarkably human, sympathetic, and vulnerable. The author’s firm grasp of character development makes you feel for his plight, his isolationist lifestyle and the oftentimes crippling depression that makes even caring for himself and his surroundings so relatable. Ivy is a bright spark and is perfect compliment to Oscar’s darkness, even though she herself is fighting a similar sense of loneliness. The plot is well planned, the characters fully fleshed out, and the overall sense of the story mimics the extreme highs and rock-bottom lows that people suffering from depression oftentimes find themselves in. It is a highly entertaining read and I recommend it to anyone who has a love of these nocturnal creatures or who may be going through a rough patch of their own—you will definitely find it worth your while."
A unique and refreshing take on a vampire tale
"After learning this would be a vampire story, I immediately assumed it would also be a love story (and who knows, maybe it will be), but the way the two characters are written, I’d be happy even if that wasn’t the case. I’ve really enjoyed reading about Ivy and Oscar’s blossoming friendship. Ivy comes from a humble background, is no-nonsense, and plainly doesn’t have time to be caught up in other people’s lives, but despite that, after meeting Oscar, he quickly becomes someone important to her. I enjoy the complexity of her character because although one can understand her want and need to keep people at arm’s length, she continues to care for others, even against her better judgement and even if she won’t admit it. She strikes me as someone who’s simply been hurt too much by life to want to let others in, but who’s too good-hearted to really shut people out. Oscar on the other hand wears his heart on his sleeve from the get-go. He’s ancient and lonely and is aimlessly trying to improve, but doesn’t know how. Although he’s an immortal vampire, he gravitates to Ivy because he yearns for human connection—he still clings to his humanity. I also appreciate the focus on Oscar’s mental well-being and like that although the story is largely humorous, it still centers around a very serious topic and has thus far taken it seriously. In terms of critique’s, I did notice the occasional typo, but apart from that I can’t say I found any other issues. I’d just recommend doing a spellcheck or another readthrough to catch them. The plot seems to be moving along well. "

"An amazing story I started to read by chance and I simply couldn't stop. The writing is superb, professional, I found no fault whatsoever, not in grammar not in the writing style, I don't think any editing is needed at all. The characters are amazing, and the way the characterization is done is just...no words. I enjoyed and fully connected with each of the characters. The plot - it's true I'm a vampire fan, but this story is a vampire story unlike any I read so far - it's original, engaging, intriguing, suspenseful, and throughout it there really great humour that makes the reader giggle all the time. Ivy and Oscar are just wonderful . and btw - what a great name for a vampire. I hope the writer has the whole story and plans to write it out. I think this story surpasses this platform. Without any hesitation I can give top marks. It's the best thing I've read here so far, and I did come across a couple of pretty good stories already. Truly great writing, hope to see more of this!"

Green Exchange 2024 Review: Funny and Entertaining With Strong Heart
"(This review is for the first 5 chapters) “Vampires: how to keep them happy” is probably one of the most entertaining stories I’ve read here on Inkitt so far. The premise, characters, and plot are hilarious, unique, and all have an emotional core that I really appreciated. Oscar, one of the “vampires” mentioned in the title, was quite likable in his quirkiness and odd habits. One thing I wanted to mention in this review was how refreshingly subversive his character is; instead of going for the typical attractive, edgy, and dangerous characterization vampires tend to have, he’s instead goofy, awkward, and not at all objectified—which I thought was a very good choice on the author’s part. He and the protagonist, Ivy, bounce really well off each other, with her no-nonsense attitude and his all-nonsense behavior (for lack of a better term, haha) complimenting each other’s personalities and making each interaction fun. Meanwhile, their shared boredom of life gives Ivy’s side of the story a surprisingly sweet feeling. I would have liked the reasons behind Ivy’s sudden empathy toward Oscar to be developed a bit more, maybe given more of a set-up before she immediately has a change of heart and decides to help him. I feel it would have given her a more defined goal and reason behind getting involved with him other than feeling sorry for him; at the moment, she feels a bit bare bones, with her motivations and aspirations being a bit lackluster. But maybe that’s the point (if she’s supposed to feel aimless in life)? All in all, from what I’ve read so far I can tell that this is going to be an honestly fun and heartwarming read—I’d definitely recommend it if you want something to make you smile. "
