Part one.

The car was racing down the wet and sloppy road as the turns felt tighter than they were, we’ve been in the car for about four hours and we were almost to the new house in the middle of nowhere. My head was on the side of the back window, my face squished and pressed against the plastic from the inside of the car. My green eyes could see out of the window as the raindrops fell off the car like tears, at this rate I’m sure the rain will never stop. You could only see about five feet in front of the car due to there being fog, the tall trees could only be seen by the trunk and going up five feet as if the fog was eating the trees from the top and down. My breath fogged up my view of my reflection as my sister finally broke the dead silence.

Sister: “Are we there yet?” Father: “No…”, dad mumbled irritably.

Mom: “Darling, we’re almost there, hang tight.”, my mom spoke elegantly.

Sister: “That’s bullshit!”My sister’s mouth slipped and she instantly regretted her words causing her to cup her hands over her mouth in embarrassment.

I looked at my sister wide eyed as my older brother pointed and laughed like a fifth grader, my mom shot him an infuriated look which quickly shut him up. She then looks at my sister with her cold gray eyes scolding her, right after she turns forward to face the front of the car once again. I looked at my sister who looked nothing like me, she had black, long straight hair, the same cold gray eyes as our mom and pale olive skin kind of like dad and I. My hair was brown but not just the average dark brown, mine was light with strands of black hair. I got made fun of for it in school and people began to bully me over it, they called me a duck because ducks had many colors with feathers and I guess my hair reminded them of it.

I snapped out of my thoughts as we pulled into the driveway, my older brother started to anxiously move his long legs in his seat as he twisted his torso to see out the window more. My sister hit the top of his head, he then grabbed his black straight hair. I chuckled a little but was still un-pleased by the fact we moved in less than a week. I was going to say goodbye on Friday after school but with my luck I got called into the office to go home early. Of course my parents un-enrolled me from the school two hours early before the weekend even started, although that pissed me off too . It was technically illegal for me to be sitting on the hard wooden chairs in the class for as long as I had. Thankfully the office let me off with a warning to never come back. Good bye forever my friends, I guess… We all hop out of the car as our father pulls the gear shift down to park, the house looked three stories tall and the house was painted a dark gray in which I’ve never seen a house painted before. It was kind of creepy but all I could do is think to myself about how my parents could have moved to a nice neighborhood that wasn’t in the middle of nowhere. The bushes in the front yard were dark green, the flowers were blooming with blood red roses. Roses were beautiful and I would love to pick one, maybe I’ll do that when the rain stops; After all it was pouring rain. My dad reached into his pocket for a house key, he was struggling to get them out due to the fact he won’t take his gloves off. He was wearing a trench coat and a hat so the rain couldn’t get on his skin. I found it a bit odd because he used to love rain about a month ago. Ever since they started putting their moving plan into action both my parents have had less feelings, they weren’t eating much and I started to grow concerned. Although they didn’t get skinnier so I never asked if something was wrong. The keys fell out of his pocket and onto the wet floor, he picks them up as his face shows little to no emotion.

He then opens the door as a gust of warm fair blows to our face. The warm air reminded me that it was getting cold out. We rushed into the house as our shoes squeaked on the wooden floor. EE ER EE ER EE EER! It kind of hurt my ears so I threw my gray hoodie on the floor and everyone left mud prints on it. I was wearing a long sleeve black shirt with dark blue jeans and of course my favorite pair of black converse. My brother ran upstairs and my sister was exploring the first story of the house. I went upstairs to check out the rooms, my older brother was already screaming out which room he wanted but that was the least of my worries. I noticed a door and it had the words carved poorly into the wood ‘Keep out’, it was intriguing so I reached for the gold color knob then I lost my breath. I felt a firm hand on my shoulder, my face went cold and I turned around to see the expressionless face of my father.

Father: “You better not be thinking of going in there Daniella, I forbid you to go in there.”

Me: “Dad! I didn’t see you there… What’s in there? Why can’t I go in there?”

Father: “Don’t worry about what’s in there, you meant go in there. There are dead rats all over the room in there, they’ll get you sick.”

I found it a little weird but oh well, I guess I won’t go up there; Yet.
