01| Trust No One
Venom spat through the walls as yells came through.
Mom and Dad were fighting once again. I grumbled as they kept me and my sister Casey awake.
'Oh my God.'
She looked over at me with tearful eyes. "Are Mom and Dad mad at each other?"
"Sounds like it. But it'll be ok. She's just upset that Dad isn't around."
"Because of his work."
"Don't worry. One day, we'll be safe from their yelling and sleep peacefully." I smiled down at her. "I promise." She smiled and nuzzled into my stomach to sleep. I've always wondered how in the world I got to be a big sister.
Then again I don't remember life without her.
-13 years later-
I smiled wide as I got accepted into the force. I looked out to the crowd and saw Mom grinning wide, Baba taking a lot of pictures and Audrey clapping.
'Casey, I did this for you.'
After celebrating with my family, I went to the cemetery. I smiled. "Guess who got in the force. Now I can save everyone. Especially from assholes like the one who took you." I teared up but blinked them away.
"Well, gotta go now. I hope you love heaven today." I sighed as I got up then bumped into someone. "Sorry."
The next day I hummed as I made it to the police force, excited to start. I made my way to my assigned room; I sat near the middle of the room.
The door soon opened then revealed the mentor.
Chief Gonzalez
Everyone stood in attention, towering over me easily, due to me being 4'11. It used to annoy me to no end but then I grew up and found many advantages to my size.
"Alright everyone," Chief started, his voice booming through the room. "Today we have a new recruit. Rosario, come forward."
I came forward and stood next to him, barely making it to the middle of his abdomen. I immediately heard the usual "wow", in acknowledgement to my height. I ignored it though. "Hello. I'm Adalina Del Rosario."
"Del Rosario?" someone asked. I looked over to see a guy staring at me with weird amusement and pride. "Like the wanted drug lord, Jose Del Rosario?"
'He said Dad's name. And basically insulted him.'
I glared secretly. "Yeah? Why?"
"We have a drug lord's daughter in the force. Wouldn't be surprised if she betrays us to criminal work."
One thing I got from my 'drug lord' dad was my quick temper, so I was quick to retort. "Hah; you're funny, seeing as how much lack of common sense you already showed that you have." He blinked. "And besides, even if I'm a drug lord's daughter, I'm nothing like him." I looked up at Chief. "And I'll prove it to all of you while I work for you."
"I'd like to see that," he retorted back.
'Guess now I have a rivalry in here.'
