Chapter 1 — The Interview: Their Offer
I needed money
Not a little money.
I needed enough to keep the lights on, pay the overdue rent, and stop pretending to my younger brother that everything was going to be okay.
That was why, on a rainy Monday morning, I stood outside the tallest building in the city with a folder pressed against my chest.
Blackstone Holdings.
Everyone knew the name.
And everyone knew Alexander Black.
Ruthless. Cold. Impossibly handsome.
The youngest self-made billionaire in the country. A man who never smiled.
I just needed a job.
Inside, the marble floors and golden lights made my cheap black dress look even older. I'd ironed it three times that morning.
A receptionist looked up. "Twenty-seventh floor. Mr. Black is waiting."
The elevator doors closed. My reflection stared back at me - nervous eyes, tired face, lips I had bitten too many times.
"Just get the job," I whispered. "Get the salary. Go home."
The doors opened to silence.
The entire floor felt intimidating. Too quiet. Too expensive.
A woman pointed toward a large wooden door.
I knocked.
"Come in."
The voice was calm. Deep. Low enough to make my stomach flip.
I opened the door.
And I forgot how to breathe.
Alexander Black was standing in front of the window. Tall, dark hair, sharp jaw, perfect suit stretched over broad shoulders. But it was his eyes that trapped me - cold blue eyes that noticed everything.
"You're late," he said.
"I arrived twelve minutes early."
"Then why did you take twelve minutes to come in?"
"I was nervous."
For the first time, something like amusement flickered in his eyes. He looked me up and down, slowly, not in a cheap way, but in a way that made me feel completely seen. My dress, my bare legs, the way I was clutching my folder like a shield.
"Honest. Sit."
I sat. His office smelled like him - dark cologne and power. He opened my resume, but his eyes kept coming back to me.
"You graduated with excellent marks."
"Yes."
"Your previous job lasted eight months."
"My mother became ill."
He looked up. "Is she better?"
"She passed away."
Silence. He closed the file and for a second, his cold mask slipped. "I'm sorry."
"Thank you."
He leaned back, his gaze dropping to my mouth for half a second before coming back up. "Why do you want this job?"
I could have lied. Instead I told the truth. "I need money."
His expression turned unreadable, darker. "Most people don't admit that."
"Most people don't have overdue rent."
He laughed. A quiet, low laugh that made heat crawl up my neck.
"You're either very brave or very desperate."
"Probably both."
He pushed a contract across the desk. The salary was more than double what I expected.
My eyes widened. "This is monthly?"
"Yes. Because the job isn't normal."
Before I could ask what that meant, the door opened without a knock.
And my whole body reacted before my brain did.
The man who walked in was everything Alexander wasn't. Dark jacket, messy hair, tattoos peeking from his collar. Marcus Stone. Alexander's partner. The bad boy billionaire.
His eyes landed on me and widened, then darkened.
"Well, well," he said, his voice rough. "Alex, you didn't tell me the candidate was beautiful."
I felt my cheeks burn. Alexander's jaw tightened.
"I'm conducting an interview, Marcus."
Marcus ignored him and walked straight to me. He leaned against my chair, so close I could feel the heat coming off him. He smelled like rain and sin.
"She doesn't look like she would survive a week with you," he said to Alexander, but he was looking at me, at my lips, at the small silver pendant resting just above my chest. "What's your name, sweetheart?"
"Sara," I whispered.
"Sara," he repeated, like he was tasting it. He reached out as if he was going to touch my cheek, then stopped himself. "You have no idea what you just walked into, do you?"
I was sitting right there, but I couldn't speak. Being between the two of them - one cold and controlled, one hot and wild - was doing strange things to my heart.
"Leave," Alexander said sharply to him.
Marcus grinned. "I like her. We're keeping her."
He walked out, but not before letting his fingers brush the back of my chair.
I looked at Alexander, flustered. "Does he always..."
"Flirt with everything that breathes? Yes."
I almost smiled, despite myself.
Alexander's eyes dropped to my mouth again, and this time he didn't look away quickly. The air suddenly felt too thick.
Then the door opened a third time.
The third man was different. Calm. Warm smile, blonde hair, green eyes. Elias Reid. He wore a simple suit, but his shoulders were just as broad.
"Did someone say my name?" He extended his hand to me. "Elias Reid."
I shook it. His hand was warm, gentle, but he held on a second too long.
"Nice to meet you."
"You too," he said softly, his thumb lightly grazing my wrist before letting go. "So you're the one."
"The one?"
Marcus appeared in the doorway again, leaning against it. "Now you've met all three."
I looked between them. Three billionaires. Three completely different kinds of handsome. And all three were looking at me like I was something they had been waiting for.
Alexander looked annoyed at both of them. "This is why I don't like having partners."
Elias smiled. "You love us."
"I tolerate you."
The tension broke and I laughed - a real laugh for the first time in months. It felt good.
Then Alexander looked at me, his blue eyes intense.
"You're hired."
My smile vanished. "What? That was the interview?"
"That was the interview."
I picked up the contract. My hands trembled. "There must be a catch."
He glanced at Marcus and Elias. Something silent passed between them.
"There is," he said quietly. "You'll work directly with us. With me, mostly. Confidential information. Private meetings. Travel. And..."
"And?"
"You'll remain under our protection. Our direct authority."
My stomach flipped, but not from fear. From the way he said it. Low. Possessive.
"Your protection?" I whispered.
Marcus pushed off the door and came closer, his eyes dark. "We take care of what's ours, Sara. And if you sign that... you'll be ours."
The word ours sent a shiver through me. I should have been scared. I was, but I was also... something else. Something I hadn't felt in a very long time. Wanted.
Elias stepped forward, his voice gentle. "No one will touch you. No one will bother you about rent. No one will scare you again. We promise."
I looked down at the contract. The money could change everything. My brother could stay in college. We could breathe again.
And for a reason I didn't understand, I didn't want to walk out of that office and never see them again.
I picked up the pen.
Where my signature went, Alexander placed his hand lightly over mine to steady it. His touch was warm, firm, electric.
"Good girl," he whispered, so quietly only I could hear.
Marcus's eyes darkened as he watched. Elias smiled, but his eyes were no longer calm.
I signed.
And in that moment, with three billionaires watching me like I already belonged to them, I knew my life had just changed forever.
I hadn't walked into a job interview.
I had walked into something far more dangerous.
And I wasn't sure I wanted to be saved from it.My hand froze with the pen just above the signature line.
I could hear my own breathing. Too loud. Too fast.
Alexander's hand was still lightly over mine. Warm. Steady. He wasn't forcing me. He was just... holding me there. Letting me feel what it would be like to be touched by a man like him.
"You feel it, don't you?" Marcus whispered. He had moved behind my chair now. I could feel him, even without looking. His knees almost brushed the back of my chair. "That pull."
"What pull?" I managed to say, my voice barely there.
"The pull that says you belong here," Elias said. He had knelt slightly so we were at eye level. His green eyes were so kind, but the way he looked at my lips wasn't kind at all. It was hungry. "We felt it the second we saw your picture, Sara. That's why you were selected."
I tried to focus. "Selected? My resume..."
"Your resume was good," Alexander said, his voice low near my ear. His chest was close to my shoulder now. I could feel the heat of him through his expensive shirt. "But that's not why you are here. There were 300 girls who applied for this job. Prettier. More qualified. Richer."
"Then why me?" I whispered.
Marcus chuckled and his hand finally, lightly, touched my hair. Just the ends. A barely-there touch that made my whole body shiver.
"Because you looked at the camera like you needed to be saved," he said. "Like you needed someone to take care of you. And we three... we like taking care of things that are ours."
"I am not yours," I said, but it sounded weak even to me.
"Not yet," Alexander corrected. His hand slid from mine to my wrist, his thumb pressing gently over my pulse. My pulse was racing. He felt it and his eyes darkened. "Your heart is beating so fast, Sara."
"Because you three are standing too close."
"Or because you like us standing too close?" Marcus said, his lips curving.
I swallowed. My cheap dress suddenly felt too thin. I was aware of everything - the way the air conditioning made my skin cold, the way their three different colognes were mixing and surrounding me, the way my knees were pressed together.
Elias noticed I was cold. He took off his suit jacket - an expensive, soft jacket - and placed it over my shoulders. His fingers lingered on my collarbone.
"Better?"
The jacket smelled like him. Clean. Warm. Safe. I nodded, clutching it.
"See?" Elias smiled at his brothers. "She needs us already."
Alexander finally stepped back, but only to lean against his desk, right in front of me. His legs were long, his suit pants stretched over powerful thighs. He looked down at me, and for the first time, I saw something other than coldness in his eyes. Possession.
"Let me be very clear, Sara, because I don't like games," he said. "This contract is for one year. You will live in our penthouse. You will have your own room, but you will sleep with us when we ask you to. You will come to all events with us. You will wear what we buy you. You will not date. You will not touch another man. In return, we pay you. We protect you. We give your brother a future."
My breath caught. "Sleep with you... meaning..."
"Meaning sleep," Alexander said, but his eyes said more. "We will not touch you without your permission. But you will be in our bed. Between us. So you learn to be comfortable. So you learn to trust us."
"And if I... if I want you to touch me?" The question left my mouth before I could stop it. My face burned red instantly.
Silence. A heavy, thick silence.
Then Marcus laughed, low and dark. "Oh, sweetheart."
Elias's hand tightened slightly on my shoulder.
Alexander leaned forward, his blue eyes locked on mine. "If you ask us to touch you, Sara... we will never stop."
The promise in his voice made my stomach drop and flip at the same time. I felt dizzy.
He was too handsome. They all were. And they were looking at me like I was already naked, already theirs, already ruined for anyone else.
"Five million is a lot for just... sleeping," I whispered.
"It's not just for sleeping," Marcus said bluntly, walking around to stand next to Alexander. Now both of them were in front of me. Two walls of muscle and power. "It's for belonging to us. Completely. Your smiles, your tears, your fears... all ours. For one year, your whole world is us."
"And after one year?" I asked.
"If you want to leave, you can leave with the money," Elias said gently. "But no girl has ever wanted to leave us, Sara."
The arrogance should have annoyed me. Instead, it made me shiver.
I looked down at the paper again. The private agreement page was there.
*The employee agrees to remain under the protection and direct authority of Alexander Black, Marcus Stone, and Elias Reid for the duration of the agreement.*
Protection and direct authority. It sounded so formal. But the way they said it made it sound intimate. Dirty. Sexy.
"What if I say no?" I asked.
"Then you walk out," Alexander said simply. "We pay you for today's interview and you never see us again. Your rent stays overdue."
My phone buzzed in my bag. My brother. Probably asking if I got the job.
I thought of our small apartment. The leak in the ceiling. The empty fridge. My mother's pendant around my neck.
I had no choice. And the worst part was... a part of me didn't want a choice.
I took the pen again. My hand was shaking less now, because Alexander's jacket was warm around me and Elias's hand was still on my shoulder, grounding me.
I signed.
The scratch of the pen on paper was loud in the silent office.
The second I finished, Alexander took the contract. He looked at my signature and his eyes darkened with satisfaction.
"Good girl," he whispered again, this time louder, and he ran his thumb over my signature like he was marking me.
Marcus knelt in front of me suddenly, taking both my hands in his big, rough ones. His touch sent electricity up my arms.
"Welcome home, wifey," he said, his voice husky, his eyes locked on my mouth. "You have no idea what you just did."
"She's ours now," Elias said, almost to himself, and he pressed a soft, chaste kiss to my forehead. His lips were warm. It was such a gentle gesture compared to the tension in the room, that tears suddenly filled my eyes.
Alexander pulled out his phone. "Pay the St. Mary's Hospital bill. Full amount. Right now. And clear Sara Jones' rent dues."
I gasped. "You... you're doing it now?"
"We take care of what's ours immediately," Alexander said, looking at me. "You are ours now. From this second."
My phone buzzed again. This time it was a message from the bank. Rent paid.
I started crying. Real tears this time.
Marcus wiped them with his thumb, his touch surprisingly soft for such a wild man. "Don't cry, sweetheart. You never have to cry about money again."
Elias pulled me up gently from the chair. I was standing between them now, wearing his jacket, surrounded by their heat.
Alexander came closer, his cold eyes now warm with something dangerous.
"One more thing, Sara."
"What?"
"You are coming home with us tonight. Our penthouse. Your new home. You don't go back to that apartment alone ever again."
"Tonight?" I whispered.
"Tonight," all three said together.
And as they led me out of the office, each one touching me - a hand on my lower back, a hand on my shoulder, a hand holding mine - I knew I hadn't just signed a job contract.
