The Sinner

Carl Smidt, a fellow deputy in his mid 30′s, slammed the car door shut, igniting the fuel and screeching his way through his parking soon found himself racing through the main street, at one in the morning in Philadelphia, 1986. He was glancing intensely at a file, on which was written, 'Classified' with a government stamp, kept on the passenger seat. His looks said it all, the way the deputy looked at the file showed that it contains something big, something dangerous. While he was struggling to safe keep the data in his car, he lost a little control of the car and just then a bullet shooting through the windshield and landing right next to him, startled him. Carl tracked the bullet hole and saw a silhouette of a man, holding a gun that resembles a sniper. He knew exactly who that was, therefore to avoid difficulties, he took a sharp turn in an alleyway and kept taking unplanned turns until he lost sight of the building itself. But then suddenly, a large round black object zooming right through the rear window came crashing into the car. Carl looked at it with sudden realisation. The very next second, the car blew up from within into smithereens.

Glancing at the blown-up car, Carl, jumping out at the right time, stood up. He started limping towards the vehicle. The classified file was lying near the car. Carl picked up the data and started heading toward the nearest building. But just then, Carl was called out from behind by the same silhouette. The stranger stepped out in the light, revealing himself. “Ah! Mr Smidt, just how naive are you to think you can escape from me? Do you think so little of me?”

With a composed tone Carl replied, “Hello there Agent 5,” while hiding the file within his jacket and turning around to face the agent, “Fancy seeing a high calibre agent like you chasing behind a low-life like me. For what do I owe the honours?”

“Haha, ya well you do have something that I would like to take it back.”

“And what would that be?”

Agent 5, with a smirk on his face, said, “Now now, drop the act. I already am going a little off schedule. So please, hand over the file, and there won’t be any complications.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Agent 5 rubbed his eyes, and in a moment he pulled out a gun and shot Carl in his leg. Carl started screaming in pain and agony so much so that his voice echoed through the streets.

“Look what you made me do. Now I will ask you this once, where is the file, Carl?”

“Fuck. You.”

Agent 5 smirked and whispered in his ear, “Repent for your sins, Sinner.”

The agent pointed the gun toward Carl’s head, and then there was a loud bang which was slowly engulfed by the silence of the city night.
