Summary

For 10 years, Samantha's husband chipped away at who she was, turning her into the person he wanted. Slowly, she became a shell of who she once was. Afraid of her husband, afraid of the world. Until one day, she started keeping a journal and began to see the truth. Then, she began to plan. It took a year, but she found her way out. Now she just had to hope he didn't find her. It wasn't until she was on the bus out of town that she realized she failed to plan past that point. Thankfully, her guardian angel boards the bus in the next state over. Another woman who recognized the look in Samantha's eyes. Who better to help a survivor than another one?

Prologue

I can’t believe I am doing this. Do I really have the courage to go through with this? Well, I guess it is a little late now.

Is it though? Maybe I could make it back before he gets home from his trip. He won’t have to know I tried to get away. I looked at my watch, right as the bus started pulling away from the station. Then again... maybe not.

I guess it doesn’t matter. If I go home now, he’ll be there. There’s no way he isn’t home by this point. There is no excuse that will save me this time. When he finds me, no excuse will save me. At least I will know I at least tried. That’s something, right?

Snap out of it Samantha, that’s no way to think. I can do this. He won’t find me. There, I will just keep repeating that to myself... at least until I actually believe it.
