I was outside, picking corn in the garden, when my mother’s voice called out to me, “Annabeth, come inside quickly!” I immediately gathered the fallen corn, pushed my long blonde hair behind my ears, and rushed to where she was standing by the back door. As I approached her, I noticed the dark clouds looming overhead, casting an ominous shadow over the garden. The wind picked up, rustling the leaves and intensifying the urgency to seek shelter. My deep blue eyes scanned the sky, before turning back to Mother. With a sense of urgency, I quickly closed the windows and secured any loose items in the yard to prevent them from being blown away by the approaching storm. The sky grew darker and the wind grew stronger with each passing moment, making it clear that we needed to take cover immediately. The wind picked up, rustling the leaves and intensifying the need to seek shelter before the storm hit and potentially causing damage. The sound of distant thunder echoed through the air, sending a chilling reminder that time was running out. I quickly grabbed my mother’s hand and urged her to hurry inside. The rain began to fall in heavy droplets, drenching us within seconds. We made it to the safety of our home just as the storm unleashed its full fury. The thunder boomed loudly, and the lightning illuminated the sky, creating a terrifying spectacle.
