Chapter 1

There once was a utopian fairytale land complete with all of the essentials. A star that grants wishes, a fountain of youth, an evil queen, a dashing prince, and a plethora of magical creatures. Now there once was a girl born to a wealthy family of nobles. Her mother was the head of the Merchant Guild where they resolved issues and made sure patents were up to date. However, they were seen as greedy, due to them not donating much of their fortune, thus a high spirit advisor came down to their mansion one day interrupting them in the middle of lunch. The creature said that until they are deemed righteous in the eyes of justice they will not be able to see their daughter again. Now whether they were ever seen as righteous isn’t known, however, the important part is that their daughter was taken and locked in a high tower for the next 26 years. It was guarded by a vicious dragon and everyday life got a little bit more boring.

The tower was drafty and miserable. Having a place built out of stone was a bane for the summer and winter months, and the rickety windows did nothing for the rain and breeze of the spring and fall. So all year round it was awful. Davinia sighed and decided to go about her morning routine. Though everyday blended together, she decided that if she was ever going to escape she would have to make her own way. She admitted that her 20s were mostly spent in a depressive state, though now she was reinvigorated to get to it again. She credited this to a self help book called, “A Fairy’s Guide to Getting Things Done”. She used the hard cold floor to stretch before doing push ups, crunches, and cardio. She then proceeded to eat as much protein as she could, and then went running up and down the stairs. Desire to escape pumped through her body. She wrote her thoughts in her diary. After all of this, the depression hit her like a truck, she went to her kitchen and grabbed a bottle of wine. She sat on the ground and started to drink from it looking out the window. The light that passed through a cloud lit a woman with raven hair, pale skin, and gray eyes with dark circles under them. The woosh of air let her know the dragon was present. “Well you seem terribly depressed, what no prince or princess show up for you? Wow look like such a mess they wouldn’t come for you if they knew you were here.” The dragon gloated good at his job. She looked up, eyes blurry and bloodshot.

“Why are you here? I thought we set up boundaries years ago. Stay the hell away from me and let me wallow in my own self pity.” She got up from the ground and wandered across the room stumbling a bit, opened the wooden door and walked down to a lower level. The dragon annoyingly met her there.

“I found a book about demons I thought you’d like to know since you’re not doing anything.” Yeah let him think that, she thought wryly. The dragon tossed the thick tome to her, she missed catching it and promptly fell on her rug. “HA, idiot!”

“Just leave me alone.” The muffled tone of her voice came from the floor. The dragon eventually left. And she passed out. She awoke some time later a bit more sober. She looked around the floor she was at, the library which was fitting. She looked down and looked at the tome covered in snakeskin, the words “Manifestation of Creatures.” She decided to flip through the book. And came across a summoning circle. The page read. “Are you severely lonely and depressed? Well this is the right page for you. Just draw five interlocking pentagons in a circle and draw these runes and you can have a friend right now. The only small price is your flesh paid in blood that will eventually be used in a demon army but that’s not that important.” This was it, the thing that could secure her escape. Davinia grabbed the nearest chalk, threw the rug off the ground and began drawing the lines. Finally someone to talk to after all these years that wasn’t an annoying dragon. She made a couple of errors through the process but was eventually able to craft what she needed. She took her hand and punched the wall. She repeated this action until her knuckles were bloodied. She would have used a knife but well, if you were going to lock somebody up for as long as she was and it quickly discovered that having a knife was a bad idea. She dragged her knuckles across the pentagons and waited. Not even a heartbeat later the runes began to glow a horrendous reddish yellow light, wind from seemingly nowhere whipped around her face causing her to take a couple of steps back. And with a flash and a bang a figure appeared in front of her. A tall seemingly man, she didn’t know if demons had such classifications, stood in front of her. He had a royalty tailored suit with a green scarf, his coat was made of black snake skin, his vest of a pastel green, and matched with a black shirt. He brushed his black messy hair away from his face, and by face she meant mask. It was an interesting porcelain, it looked like a venetian carnival mask, it was all white with red designs. He wore gloves hiding any trace of skin he might have, and he was completed by a set of black horns. He stood there in all of his brilliance seeming to bask in his own glory. They stood there for an awkward couple of seconds until she stammered, “h-hello?” He turned towards her slowly.

“Sorry madam, I didn’t mean to be so rude as to not acknowledge you. It’s just demons cannot move until the voice of our summoner speaks. Now that I have a good look at you why have I been summoned.” He said in the most polite of tones.

“Oh well, you see I’m stuck in this tower here and I can’t seem to find a way out, would you be able to help me with that.” The demon pondered this, when a crash sounded behind them.

“I hear a little of that and you aren’t going anywhere until you get a knight to rescue you!!” The dragon yelled from outside.

“That’s what you think.” Davinia whispered under her breath, the dragon didn’t hear it. The demon turned slowly towards the dragon.

“What the hell are you?” He asked.

“A dragon, what don’t they have dragons in hell? I’m going to be honest with you Davinia. I feel like this is a mistake.” I would say locking up an innocent girl in a tower for years was a mistake but what do I know, she thought. She was always weary of the dragon seeing as though dragons always had connections to more powerful beings.

“I don’t see how this is a mistake. All I want is a friend, and now I’ve got one. I’m sorry sir dragon, our Stockholm relationship will have to come to an end.” The demon looked at her, and turning his head she sensed a smile from under that mask.

“Davinia, that’s the name. And to get a knight to come save you how romantic. You know I have a collection of smut down in hell and it’s just like this. Though in that one the man eventually used magic to grow two dicks, so you know double the fun!” The demon laughed to himself. “My name is Python, Miss Davinia or Princess Davinia I assume. We’re going to have a lovely time with you and I.”

“My name is Gabriel and…”

“Holy shit do you ever shut up!” The demon yelled at the dragon. Gabriel recoiled at the outburst. “Sorry about that, I don’t know how you put up with that vile creature.” The demon turned back to Davinia. Davinia looked at him in admiration, she had been wanting to do that for years. She had tried, she had yelled at Gabriel, threatened him, and the like, but finally, a creature more powerful than her could do what she couldn’t. However, there was one question she couldn’t shake.

“What is smut, Mr. Python.” Python turned to her seemingly shocked, she couldn’t tell under his mask.

“Well only the best thing ever, though judging by this sheltered existence of yours I suppose you wouldn’t know any of that. So I won’t spoil the surprise when we get you out of here.” And with that, the creature shook the princess’ hand, as friends do.

Princess Davinia sat on a window seat looking out of her tower to the outside world. She wore a brown sweater vest over a white shirt and ended with a dark brown skirt. She had a book in her lap though she was too busy daydreaming of somebody coming up to the tower and ending her torment. Or finding a way out on her own but there was one problem. George was the size of the tower, curing his tale around it, he had not left it once in the decades he had been guarding it. That was the real reason why none of her plans worked, was because she couldn’t kill George, the dragon didn’t permit weapons or magic of any kind. The creak of wood told her somebody had entered the room. “You know Python, sometimes I wish I was a butterfly. Because then I’d already be dead.” She sighed.

“Lovely observation ma’am.” The demon pointed out. He strode over to her and looked at her in the eyes. Or she thought he did, she couldn’t see his eyes, just a void of space under the mask. “So are you ready to go?” Python asked. Davinia started.

“Go but I’m stuck here. Trust me I’ve thought of every possible way out and unless you have a better idea I think we need to brainstorm this. Besides I have a contract that binds me here. What if I escape and somebody hunts me down.” She held the book towards him, he looked at it, gave it a skim then tossed it out the window. “Wait what if…”

“Oh come on, that contract is unfair. You are responsible for your parents not being righteous enough. That’s a load of bull shit! screw you’re parents and let’s get out of here. Besides, how is anybody going to rescue you if nobody knows who or where you are?” The demon held a hand out to her. She reached for it slowly not wanting this dream to end. She could finally go to the outside world.

“I mean I guess I’m being rescued though this is unconventional.” The demon laughed for some reason at this comment.

“Being rescued, are you kidding me? This isn’t some damsel in distress type of situation, and I’m not some knight. You summoned me to be your friend and helping a friend in need is what friends do. You are in need of leaving this place and I am going to help you with that.” The demon said promptly.

“You are not leaving this place, I am here to prevent that!” Gregory said. The demon’s head shot up, the dragon recoiled slightly. “I am the guardian of this place put in charge by high spirits, with more power than you demon. Now let me do my duty and leave.”

“Oh, I’ll leave, with Davinia.” Python extended his hand again, Davinia took one last look at the horrible dragon that had been guarding her for all those years. Gregory started to fly at the tower. She grabbed Python’s hand.

“Choke on you're tongue, you Gregory!” She yelled as the two disappeared in a smoke cloud. To only reaper under the tower. “What happened? We didn’t go that far!” Gregory hit the tower. The top of the tower exploded into rubble that tumbled all around.

“I’ve never been here before, do you think I can teleport anywhere?!” Python pulled her into a run away from the tower. “Let’s get out of here before the dragon notices us.” The two ran into the woods.
