Prologue
It is needless to say; the honeymoon period was officially over. Cracks had been forming in our relationship long ago. Much longer than the timeframe in which I cared to admit. Unsurprisingly, the two of us had done well to smooth other these blemishes. To conceal these deep gouges, so much more than just superficial scuffs on the surface. Deep crevices that permeated everything that our vows had once stood for.
Lucas the smooth-talker, myself the photographer, between us we portrayed brilliantly the life we wanted them all to believe. An act, like a play, delivered expertly to the world that showed our marriage as flawless, as our family was idyllic and perfect in every way. Fooling not only those who didn’t really know us, but everyone we loved and who loved us, and more importantly, fooling ourselves along with them.
I had never imagined our façade of matrimonial bliss would hide such a labyrinthine of lies and deceit. Yet, not all of them were mine. Never had I thought that I would delve into this new year, unsure of who I had vowed the rest of my life too. Scared of what I had already uncovered, but even more so of what was still to be discovered.
For a start, Lucas wasn’t even his real name.
