An anomaly identified as LIGHT SPACE appeared along the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy that extends the entire length of the Beta Quadrant. Unmanned probes were sent to investigate but were either deflected off or were destroyed by collision. Cruiser ships were sent to attempt to penetrate but they also suffered severe damage or were nearly destroyed. As a result, the United Earth Space Council has decided that no one should try to enter this Light Space for risk of destruction or death and from now on only science vessels, and if necessary military escort, are allowed to fly alongside and study this yellowish Light Space till a solution is found to break through the barrier and enter this strange phenomenon……..End of transmission.
A boy and a girl both laughed as they ran through the darken field till they reached a hill and the boy fell allowing the girl to catch up, dropped on top of his back and yelped, “Got you!” They both laughed as the boy rolled over and looked up at the girl and laughed, “Okay, you win! Guess it’s my turn to chase you!” The girl leapt back as the boy hopped up and the girl yelped, jokingly, “No, no!” And the boy laughed as he stepped forward to give chase till the girl’s attention is diverted upwards and behind him and the girl pointed and exclaimed, “Look! The Light Space!” The boy looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a thick yellowish gold line cutting through the night sky, with only the full moon and stars illuminating the field and the two children. The children then sat on top of the small hill with the girl lying forward and her elbows and hands holding her head up and the the boy sitting Indian style as they both looked up at the Light Space and the girl sighed, “Would it be nice to see it up close?” The boy replied, “I don’t think there really is much to look at Natalie. It’s not like the Aurora Borealis.” Natalie said firmly, “I know that Michael. It just would be nice just to get up close.” Michael now leaned back and supported himself with his hands and said, “Yeah you’re right.” Natalie asked, “Do you think we will ever get to see what’s inside?” Michael answered, “Don’t know.” Natalie glanced at Michael and smiled before she said, “I heard that this Light Space is actually Heaven.” Michael snapped his head in her direction with an expression of disbelief and said, “Come on, stop pulling my leg Natalie!” Natalie looked at him innocently and replied, “Honest! I heard that these science ships that are up there see faint glimmers of light pass them and enter that Light Space.” Michael shook his head and said, “That’s the glimmer of the ship’s shields from nearby suns. You told that story anyways? Was it Erik?” Natalie looked at him and cringed and replied, “No, he can’t tell a difference between a moving star and an airplane!” Michael asked, “Then who?” Natalie sighed and answered regretfully, “Diane.” Michael snapped his head in her direction again and exclaimed, “Diane! Seriously?!” Natalie gave a low grunt, “Oh shut it Michael.” Michael smirked as he shook his head and looked back up at the sky and after a few moments of silence Natalie broke it, “Hey Michael, can you do me a favor?” Michael asked, “Yeah?” Natalie asked, “When you get up there can you send me sciencey stuff about it?” Michael smirked, “You really think I have a chance in making the Youth Space Program?” Natalie looked at him and stated, “Yes you will. If I am willing to endure two summer schools worth of piano lessons then I’m sure you can too. When was the last time you gave up on something?” Michael giggled, “Never.” They both looked at each other, smirked and Michael said, “Okay. I’ll get your sciencey stuff.” Natalie stuck out her left hand and pinky, “Swear it?” Michael smirked as he sighed, rolled his eyes and stuck out his pinky, intertwined it with her’s and said, “Pinky swear.” Suddenly Natalie pulled her hand and yanked Michael to the ground and began tickling him and they both laughed as Michael struggled to speak, “Okay, okay, okayyy, yo…..you got me!” She stopped and she laid on her back next to Michael and laughed, “You’re too slow!” They laughed a little as they continued looking up into the stars till they stopped and looked on in silence, for a few moments, till Michael broke, “What about your acting classes? Are you going to be a movie star?” Natalie smirked, “Hopefully. I only had a few small parts that you can easily miss me.” Michael interrupted, “No one can miss you Natalie.” Natalie continued, “Thank you Michael. Wish they tell me that, rather than thank you and goodbye.” Michael said, “Just keep doing what you’re doing. They’ll notice eventually. If not, I’ll give them something to notice.” Natalie gave a “Oh” expression as she looked at him and elbowed him on the right shoulder and he giggled as he gave a weak “ow” when a woman in a distance called out, “Natalie! It’s time to leave!” They both sighed and Natalie spoke sadly, “Darn it.” Michael smirked, “I’m it, remember.” Natalie looked wide eyed at him as he smirked back at her and suddenly she jumped up and began running and gave a fake like scream as Michael chased after her with a roaring sound back to the house they started from, leaving the hillside in silence and the Light Space continuing the cut the night sky.
In the uppermost room of the house, that Michael and Natalie are running back to, there is a darken window where both a boy and a girl stood by and watched as Michael and Natalie played, looked up at the stars, talked and are now running back. The boy gave a chuckle as he saw them running back, “Look at them. Having a great time playing in the dark and out in the open.” The girl, “Even after all the warnings your mother told her she still doesn’t listen. Sounds like both Michael and Natalie need to be a taught a lesson of what happens when they play with danger, let alone their fears.” The boy gave an agreeable grunt, “All in good time, Lenore. All in good time.” A woman’s voice called out from the bottom of the stairs, “Kevin, Lenore, did you learn your lesson for tonight?” Lenore replied, “Younger siblings that don’t listen to their mothers are right while older siblings that do listen to their mothers are wrong!” Silence till it broke when the door at the bottom of the stairs closed and Lenore turned back to Kevin with a smirk upon her face, “Guess I’m right. As always.” Both Kevin and Lenore gave a weak laugh as they looked out the attic window and at the dark grounds below them and the night sky above, just as Michael and Natalie reentered the house.
