I: La Colombe et La Corbelle
Auryon sat, basking in the warmth of the sunset that seeped through the dense clouds above, ignoring the off-key singing inside their inn room. A firm hand rested over her shoulder and her dark brown eyes opened to the view of Main Street. “You’re thinking about her,” the thick French accent pointed out. A pair of pronounced blue eyes sat in front of her. “What do you think?” Auryon shrugged a single shoulder at her father. “Come now, my little raven. Surely you 'ave notes about the infamous Shadow Demon Girl, as YouTube dubbed her?”
“She’s not what I was expecting,” was all Auryon said, clutching her bow against her crossed legs. “She’s so...” she snorted, looking to the sun. Sofiane brushed black hair out of his daughter’s face. “I wasn’t expecting her to be so... difficult.”
“Ma corbelle,” Sofiane sang. “Elusive prey is the best, no?”
Auryon looked down to her bow and tightened her hold on it. “We do the Lord’s work,” Auryon stated. “With the Devil’s pride.”
“Exactly.” The off-key singing behind Auryon came to a crescendo before a fit of laughter followed. An identical face splattered next to Auryon. Morgan's heavy pants were over the quiet while brushing her messy hair out of her face. Auryon looked down to her bow. "Go enjoy your hunt," Sofiane ordered his twin daughters.
"What about the mother and the proctor," Morgan pressed.
"Leave them to us," Ellise replied whilst twiddling a knife. "Magnolia and I have catching up to do." Auryon buckled her quiver across her lower back. Morgan took the knife from their mother and tucked in to the garter under her skirt. The twins left. Ellise leaned against the railing with Sofiane. "Magnolia and I have a lot of catching up to do."
"A lot of lies and secrets for twenty years. Is my lovely wife becoming vengeful? I take that as a personal affront."
"Me, vengeful? No. Magnolia, on the other hand..."
Sofiane kissed her knuckles. "Until then, you and I ave a reservation for seven. After that, well, la colombe et la corbelle will be out hunting all night," he purred into Ellise's neck.
