PRINCE OLIVER
OLIVER’S POINT OF VIEW
I shouldn’t be, but here I am spying on my parents having an intimate conversation about a neighboring pack. See my Father is the King of vampires, and my Mother is the Alpha of not only our strange pack of vampires, werewolves and hybrids, but the Alpha over all packs.
If you don’t know what a hybrid is, it’s a mix of two different species; in our case it’s werewolf and vampire. My sister was the first hybrid, my Mother soon after, and a string of them have been made after, including myself: Prince Oliver.
Why am I spying on my parents you ask, well it might be because I’m only five and curious, because I can’t stand how sad it is around here with my sister still desiccated, or the fact that my supernatural hearing heard something about a strange thing Nightfang wanted to keep, but didn’t know if they were allowed to.
“You stay here with Lara and I’ll go and check out the situation and decide what to do about it. I am Alpha after all,” my Mother decides with a hesitant sigh.
I then run into the room, “I want to come with you!” I enthusiastically yell getting their attention.
“I don’t know son. It’s not going to be that fun, it’s going to be boring adult stuff,” my Mother says.
Glaring at them I reply, “Anywhere has to be more fun then here. I can’t stand to see Lara, who I basically don’t even know, desiccated in the next room not even knowing if I’ll ever meet my older sister,” I say pointing towards the hospital room she resides in. “And Owen doesn’t look much better than her, which makes it hard to have hope that things will get better.”
Crouching down to my level she suggests, “Why don’t you go and play with some of your friends, get out of the house?”
“I would but whenever we go around their parents they’re always asking how Lara is.
“I just need a break. Please Mother!” I beg.
Sighing my Mother stands up and looks over towards my Father, obviously having a conversation over their telepathic link. They then look towards me and my Father says, “Okay you can go Oliver, as long as you listen to everything your Mother tells you to do. Do you understand?”
I try to hide my excitement, not succeeding as I bounce while answering, “Yes! Yes of course Father.”
I then give him the biggest hug before running down the hall and into Lara’s room. Walking up to her bed trying to be quiet as Owen is sleeping on the other side of the bed I kiss her forehead and say, “I’ll be back soon Big Sis’. Don’t you give up on us.”
I then walk slowly out of her room so I don’t wake Owen, and once I’m in the clear I hybrid run to the car and am in my seat before anyone can blink.
We probably could’ve ran in our wolf form if we really wanted to as it only took about two hours, but we had to travel on human roads to get here so it was safer to take the truck; hunters and all. We’re then stopped by Nightfang’s warriors just inside their territory which is normal, but after they see that my Mother is The Alpha, and I’m the Prince, they let us continue pretty fast.
We drive straight to the pack house where the Alpha and Luna live, and although I would like to look around I’m smarter than to ask anything extra of my Mother right now. Something about this place is extremely calming to me, even my wolf can feel it.
Before I know it I’m lurching forward, my seatbelt stopping me from flying into the front seat, as my Mother hits the breaks a little too hard, and then puts the truck in park.
Looking back towards me she says, “Now Oliver this Alpha and Luna’s situation is different from other one’s you have met. So just be careful with what you say okay?”
Not really understanding her I nod with a, “Okay Mother. I’ll try.”
Patting my leg with a smile she comments, “I know you will. You’ve always been an amazing son Oliver.”
Unbuckling her seatbelt, she leans back, kissing me on the forehead before saying, “Well shall we?” And she opens the truck door hopping out.
Following behind her I watch as she knocks on the carved massive wooden door, an Omega answering shortly after.
Bowing her head in respect she informs us, “They’re in here Alpha Serene.”
She then leads us into a large sitting room where I see a older man and woman. The slightly graying man in dress pants, and a white polo shirt, is sitting on the couch trying to calm down the woman that is constantly pacing back and forth in front of him.
“Hello Alpha and Luna Nightfang.” My Mother than puts her hand on my back and pushes me forward slightly, “I brought my son with me. This is Prince Oliver I don’t think you’ve ever met.”
I stick out my hand as the woman walks over and crouches down giving me the warmest smile, her blond hair everywhere in crazy curls, at least in my opinion.
Grabbing my hand and looking at me with her blue eyes, she shakes it saying, “Well it’s nice to meet you Prince Oliver. I’m Luna Nightfang, but you can call me Ginna if you would like?”
Letting go of her hand I watch her stand back up. “And you can call me Oliver, just Oliver.”
Chuckling the Alpha walks up next to Luna Ginna his dark hair matching his brown eyes, “And you can call me Alpha Nightfang. It’s nice to meet you Oliver.”
I meet him in the eye, “Well if I have to call you by your title then you can call me by mine: it’s Prince Oliver to you.”
All of the grown ups laugh, but I keep my stare until Alpha Nightfang says, “Okay. Nice to meet you Prince Oliver.”
Nodding back in response, my Mother offers, “Well shall we see what’s got everyone up-in-arms shall we?”
Luna Ginna then responds instantly, “Yes we put her over here in one of the guest bedrooms.”
We begin to follow them up the stairs, stopping at the first one to the right. Luna Ginna then slowly opens the door and has us look in. At first all I can see is a bed, but soon after I see a small movement under the light blue quilt, and putting my nose in the air I get a whiff of human…maybe, mixed with blood and death.
Not able to resist I sneak into the room while my Mother stands at the door still staring at her small frame.
Reaching the side of the bed I pull the blue silky fabric down and reveal her face, she’s beautiful is the first thing I think, the second is horrified at the amount of scratches, bruises on her face; not to mention the dried on blood in her hair.
Fuming I storm towards the door pushing the adults out, surprising all of them I’m sure with my anger, as they stumble over each other into the hallway, before fallowing me back into the sitting room.
Pointing towards her room I have to control myself from yelling, “How did she get like that?”
My Mother crouches down in front of me, “Calm down honey. What did you see?”
“She has blood in her hair, and looks like she’s been beaten. And what’s worse is she smells like a human, so she won’t heal as fast as we will.”
My Mother’s hazel eyes widen and go from mine towards the Luna and Alpha. “Is this true? Is she a human?” She asks standing up.
“That’s what we were trying to tell you. She smells like she’s a human, but not completely. Were not sure we should send her to live with the humans incase she is supernatural.”
I hear her sigh and watch her shoulders sag. “Listen Ginna I know you’ve always wanted a family, and it’s heartbreaking that you’ve never had a chance to have pups of your own, but you can’t raise a human in the supernatural world; no matter how much you want a child.”
Seeing a tear run down the Luna’s face she says, “I know Alpha Serene, but she really does have a supernatural smell to her.”
I jump in trying to help, “She did smell like a weird human, she could be supernatural?”
With all three sets of eyes on me my Mother speculates, “Who would mate with a human? That’s just reckless!”
The Alpha shrugs, “I don’t know. Maybe a witch? They’re close to human kind right?”
My Mother sits down in thought, “You would think, but they like to keep their bloodline pure so their magic doesn’t go awry, so as far as I know they only mate with members of a coven.”
“I know it sounds crazy, but what if we raised her and she took over for us one day?” Luna Ginna suggests.
“WHAT!?” My Mother and Alpha Nightfang both simultaneously yell together.
The Alpha then puts his arms around his Luna talking into her hair, “I know you want a family, but even if she is supernatural, she’s not full supernatural, and we don’t even know if she’s a werewolf; she can’t take over for us. Plus we don’t even know if someone is out there looking for her. And even if no one is looking for her she’ll have to join her kind one day, weather it’s human, witch, vampire, werewolf, or what-have-you she will leave one day; so you might not want to get too attached to her Ginna.”
I watch as the tears stream down Luna Ginna’s face. Nodding she says, “I know but she needs someone to raise her, and it’s going to be a bloodbath with the pack when Nightfang needs a new Alpha; I don’t even want to think about it.”
I don’t know if it was the Luna’s tears, or the serenity I felt when driving onto this land, but somehow I find myself saying, “I’ll take over!”
My Mother jumps up from the couch walking over towards me, “Oliver you’re only five, you can’t make that kind of commitment. And we don’t know about your sister, we might need you to be Al—”
I cut her off shouting, “STOP! Lara is going to be fine, I’m going to get to properly meet my big sister and she’s going to take over as Alpha, do you hear me! I’m not taking her position.” Watching my Mother nod at me I continue, “And with Owen being her Beta there really isn’t a position for me in our pack, plus I’m basically immortal so Alpha Nighfang over there can take his time deciding when he wants to retire.
“Other werewolves are born into positions like this one, why can’t I volunteer for it?”
“You are sounding way too smart for your age little boy. We’ll have to talk to your Father about this and maybe give it a couple of years, but it’s something to think about,” she says rubbing my head.
“And what shall we do about the child Alpha Serene?” Alpha Nightfang asks.
My Mother looks down towards me, “Well what would you do Prince Oliver?”
“I think it would be stupid to put a supernatural in the human world, so until we know what exactly she is, I say we let Luna Ginna raise her.”
I look from Luna’s smile up and see that my Mother is smiling down at me. She then kisses my forehead and says, “I think that’s the best decision that could’ve been made.”
Nodding I look back towards the Alpha and Luna and add, “But make sure to give her a shower and get the blood off of her as soon as possible!”
Laughing they both say, “Yes sir!”
