Summary of Chapter 1: The Great War of the Jade Empire and the Demon Lord of the Seven Paths In the ancient past, ten thousand years ago, the world was a unified realm under the rule of the Jade Empire, the greatest of the Seven Great Empires that spanned across the known continents. The Empire was a land of harmony, peace, and order, where the people were masters of the Dao, an all-encompassing force that guided the balance of the world. Through the Dao, individuals could cultivate their strength, mind, and spirit, allowing them to ascend to higher realms of existence. The Jade Empire was at the peak of civilization, with its warriors, scholars, and sages basking in the enlightenment of the Dao. However, their peace was shattered with the arrival of an unimaginable enemy—the Demon Lord of the Seven Paths, an entity from beyond the cosmos. The Demon Lord was not one singular being but rather a fusion of seven primal, destructive forces, each representing a perversion of the Dao itself. These seven forces, called the Seven Paths, were embodiments of destruction, chaos, and suffering that would ravage the world in ways no mortal could comprehend. The Demon Lord, though originally an otherworldly being, had somehow obtained power that bent and twisted the Dao itself to his will. The Seven Paths were each named after the destructive principle they represented: Chaos, Time, and so

The Great War

10,000 Years Ago – The Great War Between the Jade Empire and the Demon Lord of the Seven Paths

In the beginning, there was only the Dao, an endless expanse of power that intertwined all existence. Through the Dao, all things were created, and from it, all life sprang. But even the Dao, in its infinite wisdom, could not foresee the arrival of something darker than any force the world had ever known.

The Jade Empire, the most powerful of the Seven Great Empires that spanned the known continents, stood as a beacon of hope and civilization. It was a realm of order, peace, and prosperity, where the harmony of the Dao had been perfected in the souls of its people. It was a realm where those of the chosen bloodlines could cultivate their souls, bodies, and minds to transcend mortality and touch the higher realms of power.

But that peace was shattered when the Demon Lord of the Seven Paths arrived.

The Demon Lord, an entity born from the deepest recesses of the cosmos, arrived without warning. His dark power seeped through the fabric of the universe, breaking the natural laws of reality itself. His arrival was not one of invasion, but of corruption—an invasive force that twisted the very essence of the Dao. The Jade Empire, standing at the peak of its power, could not predict what was to come. They had known conflict with other kingdoms, but nothing prepared them for the Seven Paths, the seven primal forces of destruction that the Demon Lord commanded.

Each Path was a manifestation of a universal principle, twisted and perverted by the Demon Lord’s malevolent influence. There was the Path of Chaos, which unraveled the fabric of creation. The Path of Time, which bent the flow of existence itself. The Path of Destruction, which tore apart all things in its wake. The Path of Shadows, a manifestation of darkness that consumed both light and hope. The Path of Pain, which bound all living creatures to eternal torment. The Path of Blood, which sought to drown the world in lifeblood. And finally, the Path of the Void, a path that erased everything it touched, leaving only emptiness.

Each of the Demon Lord’s generals—beings of unimaginable power—commanded one of these Paths, spreading their influence across the empire like wildfire. Cities were reduced to rubble, the land itself scorched by their power. The Jade Empire’s armies, though mighty in their own right, could not withstand such power. Each battle was a test of endurance and will, but the Empire’s strength was beginning to falter. They had no choice but to fight on, for the Seven Paths were not only an army—they were a force of nature.

At the heart of the Great War stood Emperor Rong Wei, a leader who had ruled the Empire with wisdom and benevolence. In his court, the greatest sages and cultivators had studied the Dao, unlocking the highest levels of martial and spiritual power. Yet, no matter how they tried, they could not overcome the Demon Lord’s influence. The Dao, which had once been their ally, now seemed to betray them, warping in response to the corruption that the Demon Lord had spread.

The Ten Sages, the most powerful cultivators in the Jade Empire, were summoned to the Emperor’s side in the final days of the war. The Sages had reached the pinnacle of Dao cultivation, their powers beyond human comprehension. They represented the five great pathways of the Dao—Path of Creation, Path of Preservation, Path of Transmutation, Path of Essence, and Path of Liberation—but even they could not defeat the Demon Lord’s twisted version of the Dao.

In desperation, the Emperor called upon a forgotten power—the Ancient Art of Binding—a ritual said to be capable of sealing the greatest of evils. But such power came at a cost, for the Ancient Art of Binding was not a force that could be wield by any mortal. It required a life to be sacrificed, a soul to be bound into the very foundation of the world, in order to fuel the seal.

As the final battle raged on, the Demon Lord descended from the skies, his body shifting between realities, his very form unstable and ever-changing. In that moment of desperation, the Ten Sages enacted the Ancient Art of Binding, their collective energy pouring into the seal that would imprison the Demon Lord forever.

The seal was a success, but not without consequence. The force of the binding shattered the land, splitting the Jade Empire into seven distinct realms, each ruled by one of the Seven Great Empires. The Seven Paths, once twisted into the very essence of the Demon Lord, were now scattered across the world, their influence now lingering but dormant, waiting for the day they could rise again.

But the Dao had been altered. The great balance of the world had been forever changed. And so, as the war came to an end, the world was left to rebuild, unaware of the ancient forces that slumbered beneath the surface, waiting for the time when they would be needed once more. Amidst the chaos of the battle, as the Demon Lord descended to unleash his final attack, a strange occurrence happened. High above the battlefield, in the heart of the tearing sky, a blue light suddenly appeared—a faint, shimmering streak that arced across the heavens, vanishing before anyone could fully see it. The soldiers who witnessed it thought it to be a sign of the gods, a sign of hope amidst the destruction.

In the moment of greatest despair, it was taken as a divine omen—perhaps a sign that the heavens would deliver the Jade Empire from its doom. The Emperor’s court even debated what it meant, but no one could say with certainty. Some believed it was a blessing from the gods, while others thought it was a sign of the Dao restoring itself after being twisted by the Demon Lord.

No one knew that this seemingly insignificant event would have more to do with the fate of the world than any of them could have imagined. No one knew that the blue light would one day return, not as a sign of salvation, but as the herald of a new, darker chapter. Author’s Note:

Regarding the mysterious “blue light” mentioned above:

Before you get caught up wondering about the significance of this event, let me save you some trouble. That blue light, the one that flickers across the sky at the height of the Great War, will seem important. Some of you might even think it’s a clue, a hidden prophecy, or some kind of foreshadowing about future events. But I assure you, it’s nothing more than a passing moment, a bit of fleeting spectacle that leads to absolutely nowhere.

I know, I know. It might feel like it’s going to play a pivotal role, but in reality, it’s just a momentary blip in the grand scope of things. Something that appears to be connected to something much bigger, but ultimately holds no bearing on the story that’s to come.

So, don’t waste time theorizing about it—it’s just a spark in the void, gone before it can mean anything. There are far more important things ahead, trust me.

Enjoy the ride, but don’t get too hung up on the blue light!
