El Asiento Vacío


Logré subirme al metro, atiborrado como siempre a esa hora.

Un asiento libre.

A su lado, un tipo enorme. Tatuajes, cadenas, botas.

Parecía una muralla.

Dudé.

Él me miró apenas, como preguntando si iba a decidirme.

Me senté.

Olía a cuero y a metal.

No dijo nada.

Estaba absorto en su teléfono.

La carcasa tenía calaveras.

Alguien le mandaba corazones y stickers.

No pude ver con detalle, porque noté que me miraba de reojo.

Desvié la mirada disimulando una sonrisa.

Me distraje pensando en lo que me esperaba al llegar.

Lo mismo de ayer en el microondas.

Media copa de vino en la botella.

La tele encendida sin volumen.

Nada más.

En la siguiente estación subió una mujer mayor.

Le ofrecí el asiento.

Negó con la cabeza y siguió de largo.

Llegamos a mi estación. Me bajé.

Él también.

Mientras me aflojaba la corbata lo vi en el fondo: una mujer de negro lo estrechaba, mientras sostenía a un niño de unos cinco años.

No me detuve.

Seguí caminando.

A la mañana siguiente, el metro igual de lleno.

El mismo asiento, vacío.

Él, en el mismo lugar.

Me senté.

Sin dudarlo.

Sin mirarlo.
