Chapter 1

Armin, born in a noble family in France. Is the youngest son of Madam Claire, a successful actress and Mister Caesar a renowned Physics Professor. His siblings are Clara, Jermaine, Peter, Winter, Harry and the older brother, Armin is fond of—Nicholas.

Armin is a talented and intelligent young boy, he has an insatiable curiosity which leads to him learning how to paint and play the piano by himself. He learned how to read and write at the age of four, thanks to his father, Caesar’s help and support. Yet with all of this, the thing that the young Armin loves the most is to study nature. He has a journal filled with information about different types of plants, animals, places but his absolute favorite is to study the weather or different seasons. ‘I love autumn.' Armin wrote in his journal.

At the age of 27, Armin finished school with a degree in Natural Philosophy. He soon became a professor at a university in their city. Armin is well known to his colleagues and students because of the way he delivered his lectures. He is kind and patient to his students, and the way he discusses Biology is just filled with excitement and enthusiasm.

10 years later, Armin decided to move to Poland for a better job opportunity. He bid farewell to his family, promising that he would take good care of himself, and not forget to send them letters.

On December 10, 1745, Armin arrived in Poland. There he once again took a job as a professor but this time in a more prestigious university, together with well known scientists and professors, he teaches students who are eager to learn. Not so long, he also became well known, gathering respect with his charming demeanor and unique interest.

Armin’s life appeared to be idyllic, a seemingly problem-free existence. Everything he does he excelled with it. But one question from a man persists, “if you succeed at an early age, wouldn’t your downfall be early also?”

All of a sudden in his 18 years of teaching in that university. Armin left with an unknown reason. None of his friends knew where he had gone or what had happened to him. Armin’s family on the other hand did not suspect anything since he still kept sending them letters.

Nicholas, now a married man with family, was the only one who noticed something strange in Armin’s letters. In the letter, it is noticeable how Armin kept repeating how much he misses his family and with the hope of visiting them some day. It was written in his letter again and again, in different orders and he did not, anymore write about the happenings in the university he is working at.

Nicholas told Madam Claire and Mister Caesar about his concern, but the mother and father only jumped into the conclusion that Armin must have been occupied with his work. Nicholas did not push this further and listen to his parents beliefs.

Alas, Mister Caesar died of old age, leaving his children and Madam Claire devastated. She sent a letter to Armin letting him know about his father’s sudden death. However on the day of the funeral, there was no Armin at sight. Madam Claire together with Nicholas decided to visit Armin, that’s when they realized that the man had left the university. The two, mother and son tried to ask Armin’s friends but none of them had the answer for their questions.

They searched for him, only to know from a newspaper seller that Armin is living in an apartment, giving them the address. When Madam Claire and Nicholas arrived at the said apartment. They were stunned, almost disgusted by the poor living conditions of the place. But such a man who’s from a noble family like Armin, living there, surprises them more.

Nicholas knocked on Armin’s door, but got no response. He forcefully opened the door, and both Nicholas and Madam Claire almost faint because of the pungent smell. The inside of the room is filled with musty smelling trash and scattered books and papers, broken furniture with insects such as cockroaches and flies crawling on the wall and flying around. Madam Claire can’t handle the disgusting place, she vomited and urged Nicholas to leave with her. The old lady does not believe that Armin would consider living there. She is certain that the newspaper seller has tricked them.

Nicholas and Madam Claire ride a boat back to France. She decided to pay a group of people to search for her son.

A month later, Madam Claire received a letter from a doctor in Poland. Armin was found, but no longer breathing. The doctor wrote that the reason for his death is because of drowning.

Madam Claire fell into sickness, not so long life has also departed her. Nicholas came to Poland to see his brother's tomb. Somehow trying to gather information on what happened to Armin.

Nicholas asked Armin’s friends and colleagues but none of them knew anything except this one professor, Professor Sky handed Nicholas a journal owned by Armin. The professor found it from Armin’s apartment. Professor Sky also found manuscripts and research papers in there, but Nicholas only took the journal with him.
