En vez de lagrimas, Amalia lloraba llamas al ver postrada en cama a su abuela. Por supuesto, el suelo era de hormigón.

—Alégrate Amalia, apenas tienes 15 años.

—Abuela, estás agonizando, ¿cómo pides que no llore?

—Desde los 5 años, has visto morir a muchos. ¿Por qué te sorprende?

—Se trata de ti, abuela. Mi única familia.

—Ya he vivido suficiente. 485 años, están llenos de duros y maravillosos momentos.

Es tiempo de partir, querida.

La anciana tenía una llama gris en cada ojo. Su mirada parecía perdida. Pero aún estaba lúcida. Sin embargo, las brazas dentro de sus venas, estaban devorando su piel.

—Prometo...prometo que defenderé tu legado. —dijo la joven cerrando los puños.

—Hazlo para el bien, querida. No cometas el mismo error que yo.

—Pero tu dictadura fue para el bien del pueblo.

—¡Espejismo! —dijo la abuela con lentitud—. Asesiné a miles de personas por obtener estas tierras que no necesitaba. Mi fuego quemó sus hortalizas para que así pudiera verlos morir de hambre.

»Hoy, me arrepiento. Pero también sé que me espera la penumbra en donde mi fuego no volverá a encenderse. En cambio tú, tú tienes una pequeña llama en tu corazón que apenas brilla. Prometo que si te conduces por el bien, tendrás una antorcha en tu interior que servirá para iluminar a otros seres, seres que viven hoy en la oscuridad.

—¿Qué quieres decir con eso? —preguntó Amalia que le daba la espalda.

La abuela no respondió.

Amalia dio la vuelta. Observó que todas las brazas habían hecho añicos la piel sedosa de su abuela que había partido a otra realidad.
