Chapter 1

Chapter 1.

“Hurry, Lily! We’re late!” Adrianna runs down the street, running into people, and also hitting people with her long, brown pigtails.

“I’m trying! I’m shorter than you, that’s why I’m slower!” Lily huffs, her dirty blonde bubble braids flying in the air, and her cinnamon colored cat trailing after her. Minutes pass… and they arrive.

“Here we are… the river. Have our bags, Lil?” Adrianna asks, making sure no one is near.

“I do, Addy, but why do we have to go? And where are we going?” Lily asks, clutching onto Chai, her little kitty-cat.

“Because of the orphanage, Lil! I can’t stand one more day living in Mrs. Rosie’s Home for Girls! Remember? She always puts us in the cold basement! It’s finally our chance to get away from the horror.” Adrianna cries, with a sudden look of freedom in her pale, freckled face with dark brown eyes.

“Now where is that boy? He was gonna help us!” Adrianna yells, throwing her fists in the air.

“Who? And where are we going, Addy?” Lily asks, still confused on how they were late.

“Owen! He was gonna help us get to Idaho!” Addy tells her twin.

“Idaho? We’re in Tennessee! That’s like 1,000 miles! That’ll take like 2 months!” Lily protests, her bubble braids flying in the air each time she paces back and forth.

Suddenly a tall boy, about the age of 14, our age, comes out of the forest and comes to stand next to the river with us.

“You’re late.” He says, standing there in a black jacket, with a hood covering his head.

“Sorry! Mrs. Rosie didn’t let us out of her sight until twelve… and she slowed me down.” Addy says, pointing to Lily

“Hey! I did not slow you down. You were like 2 feet ahead of me the entire time!” Lily complains.

“Stop complaining. Come with me.” The boy says, and we follow.

“Are you sure we can trust this so-called Owen?” Lily whispers to Adrianna, and Adrianna nods.

“He’ll help us when we need it.”
