Chapter 0: Prologue
A System, the powerful ability that allows one to grow in power at rates that would otherwise be impossible, potentially turning humans into gods.
But what happens if this power is given to one who was consumed by loneliness, wanting nothing more than to never be alone again, even if it takes ruining countless lives for that?
The tale of the one who never had companionship, the tale of the one who was but an outcast... now it is the tale of the one who had a second chance, what once was a cycle now is a journey.
Chapter Zero: Prologue, Birth of a Tamer!
Humans are, by nature, social primates who rely on numbers, just like other social animals a human would fail trying to survive by itself.
So of course, for a human few things can be more dangerous (both physically and emotionally) than being cast aside by their peers.
The Brazilian high-school dropout (technically graduate but he just stopped going to classes and never returned to pick up any proof he graduated) known as Lucas knew that feeling a little too well.
Of course, being the third of five in a low income family meant the game was rigged against him from start, people should stop having more than one child especially if they don't have enough money and time to handle more, but things are only made worse by his personality.
Maybe it is the mix of his Autism Spectrum Disorder and various other issues related to socializing, maybe it is the cause of said other issues, but Lucas was always the weird one compared to both kids and adults alike.
Ever since preschool his classmates and teachers had one thing in common: they didn't understand him and did not want to try, after all if everyone else can live in society just fine maybe he was the issue.
And then his middle school days were somehow worse, after all what subject would he even have to talk with his classmates to try making friends? It's not like anybody around cared about the things he was passionate abou.
Indeed, he would eventually develop a mentality that if he cares about something, he should act like it doesn't matter or else people would just hurt him.
His family cared more about the 6 months old crotch goblin his moronic sister gave birth to than about him on his own birthday? It doesn't matter he was old enough to not get jealous of a basically newborn.
People would tell him to shut up or just ignore him whenever he would either give his opinion; talk about something he enjoys or correct a misinformation? It doesn't matter they have been like that his whole life anyways.
People would blame him for eating something they know he doesn't even like and yet they insist it was him because "nobody else likes it"? It doesn't matter he is the older brother so he has to take the blame.
If it is important to him, it isn't important to anybody else and it would be useless to try getting them to care, after all if he is ever sad about something they will talk about how he has nothing to cry about or how he should feel sorry for his mother who works so hard to afford things for him and his siblings... even if he wanted her to never have done it, as he never forgave her for not aborting him.
Few were the things that gave him any feelings other than regret; rage; sorrow or dread, and one of those things was a genre/trope of media he had always enjoyed.
The "Mon" trope can manifest in various ways but it is usually for media that focus on collections using various characters, creatures or mascots for it.
It is generally agreed that the Mon Trope started back in the year of 1967 with the "kyodai hero" style tokusatsu show from Tsuburaya "Ultra Seven", second (or third if Ultra Q counts) show from the Ultra franchise, in this specific segment the title hero had the ability to capture kaijus in capsules.
Following the next decades the trope would make it's debut in the videogame medium (which is the medium that popularized it) with Megami Tensei, a game about commanding demons from Hell to do your biding like you're some kind of Temu King Solomon.
Of course the trope would start it's popularity explosion in 27th of february, 1996 with the release of Pocket Monsters Red and Green versions for the original Game Boy, arguably the two most important games for any handheld plataform even to this day.
The next years would follow with more variations of the formula coming out such as Digimon which follows a logic closer to MegaTen than Pokémon, or ones that use a Trading Card Game to sell their mons such as Yu-Gi-Oh! or Chaotic.
Of course Megami Tensei wouldn't be the only Mon with a focus on an older audience, as Fate: Stay Night would start a franchise that some still debate wether is or not a mon, especially since most of the mons are waifu versions of figures like Arthur Pendragon, Leonardo DaVinci, Nero Claudius, Paul Bunyan and countless others if you don't have a very specific type of neurodivergency to count them all.
It got to a point where some would argue the stands from Jojo no Kimya na Bouken, having debuted in part 3: Stardust Crusaders, count as Mons.
Of course not all Mon series would be as great, as for every Pokémon there are 5 Telefangs, for every Digimon there are 10 Spider Riders, for every Dinosaur King there are 20 Palworlds.
The Mon trope interacted with many of the traits that made Lucas have a hard time with humans, maybe due to him having much more empathy for the "monsters" than for the people that didn't want him.
Worlds like Yu-Gi-Oh! or Pokémon, even ones like Build Divide, were special to him because those are worlds where a person's social status can rise simply for having a high affinity for the respective Mons, and he wished to be able live like that.
The unrivaled superiority of the Pokémon Master Red, the grandious destiny of the Supreme King Judai Yuki, the Legendary title of the Digimon King Ryo Akiyama, the talent to charm anyone of Chaldeas's Last Master Ritsuka Fujimaru, the understanding of the Daybreak Alchemist Houtaro Ichinose, the ability to form bonds with any creature of the Beast Tamer Rein Schroud, the genius of the Spectral/Alpha Scientist Seth, even the chance to change the world such as the Creator or Pokégirls Sukebe... he believed that if he could be like that, he would never have to be alone again.
Lucas knew better than to feel hope however, after all there is a reason hope was in Pandora's Jar (it was not a box) alongside all of the world's evil, hope is the worst of evils as it only makes the inevitable suffering worse.
"Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, at the worst possible moment", this is Murphy's Law, and it is the base concept in which Lucas's life seemed to always have operated.
Little did Lucas know, he was about to have his torture end as he would receive the kind of ability Manhwa authors seem to love ever since someone had this idea for works such as Solo Leveling and The Gamer.
Right now we can see him with his face shoved between two old torn-down pillows, his usual bored expression with the gaze of a dead fish as he debated with himself wether or not getting up to drink water was worth the effort in comparisson to dying of thirst.
Suddenly his eyes showed even a little emotion as he blinked and out of nowhere he saw himself no longer in his bedroom, but planted facedown on the ground of what looked like a store.
As he got up in confusion he got approached by a strange figure wearing blue pants, a zipped-up green hoodie, brown gloves covering both hands, black boots covering both feet and... who'se face was non-existant, it was just a shadow.
-Hey you, you're finally awake- The figure spoke in a voice that sounded like a mix of young, old, masculine, feminine, deep, high, and all in between, to the point in which it was impossible to determine the figure's... anything, gender, age or whatever, if it even had one.
-Hæh?- Lucas was more confused than anything, he 53% believed that figure wanted to kill him but that would be good in his mind. -Where in the name of blähaj am i? And... who or what are you?
-Boku? Daremo Nai- The figure spoke, literally introducing itself as "Me? Nobody", speaking in Japanese for some reason. -But if you need a term to refer to me you can say i am a Salesman, and you're at my shop.
-A... Salesman?- Lucas tilted his head to the right, a habit he has when confused or tired. -And... why am i here?
-Oh that is easy to explain- The Salesman had no face but Lucas knew it would be smiling if it had one. -You see, i am not a normal salesman, i sell items of great power, things that can change a person's life, and let them change everyone else's as well...
The Salesman guided Lucas torwards a desk where a briefcase was laying, the Salesman opens it revealing three vials.
The first was a small glass vial with a clear light-blue fluid and a creature that looked like some sort of mutated cattetpillar.
The second vial was filled with a deep crimsom fluid and wrapped in what looked like a silver serpent.
The last vial contained a green fluid and had a detail that looked similar to a bird's feathery wing.
-One of my clients has contacted me to let you take one of those three- The Salesman spoke. -They already paid for it so take the one you like the most.
-What... are those tho?- Lucas asked, he actually sounded curious rather than just confused. This situation was... familiar, but he didn't know why.
-Oh i almost forgot- The Salesman chuckled before continuing. -The products i call are called Essences, they are able to grant inhuman power to whoever drinks them. Most people can only consume one unless they have the apropriate... perks for it.
Essences... supernatural beaverages that can grant power to the drinker, each granting diffrrent powers... those sounded like Akumas no Mi but cooler.
Suddenly, three floating screens showed up, each with a short description for one of the three essences in front of Lucas.
[Essence of the Superorganism: So rather than befriend animals you want to BE a super animal? Completely fair homie. This essence lets you use the abilities of any organism that has ever existed on contemporary, non-magical Earth. This essence makes you an archetypical chimera, with a million and a half abilities and an incredible compatibility with other lifeforms.]
[Essence of the Beastmaster: This essence is for befriending animals. With this you can make friends out of almost any creature, even fully magical ones, at least under some circumstances, as well as help such animals adapt to a wide range of environments.]
[Essence of Monster Bird: Ah so you’d rather hatch and rear monsters? That’s understandable. This essence is specifically about raising and drawing power from monstrous birds, and gives those who take it the power to draw power from creatures they’ve tamed.]
-Pick one- The Salesman smiled... or at least Lucas thinks it did, again, no face so no mouth. -My client also made sure to tweak the essences a bit so regardless of which one you choose it will be intuitive, they told me you are a clever one. Just remember to wait until you're outside to consume it.
This... couldn't be real, Lucas was being given the chance to receive powers that go beyond what he ever thought would be possible as his world was bound by disgustingly pathetic limits.
-I... made my choice- Lucas said with the first honest smile he had in who knows how many years, moving his hand to the vial of crimsom fluid. -I will take this one.
-The Essence of the Beastmaster huh? Good choice- The Salesman praised. -Most people would have picked the Superorganism as it would give them the powers akin to every animal from your world, but my client was right about you being unique.
The Salesman then reached behind a counter for an instant to pull a small metallic cube, placing it on the desk.
-This is something my client left with me for you- The Salesman explained. -They said that you should take it alongside your Essence. I hope to make business with you in a near future, the exit is the third door by the left.
-Thank you- Lucas grinned as he took the vial in his right hand and the cube in his left hand, walking to the direction pointed by the Salesman.
At this point he already believed he was getting isekaied because that is the only logical conclusion, so he eagerly stepped outside into a strange place with dark sky and chessboard patterns for a floor, which just proved him right as he imediatly removed the lid of his flask and downed the essence like Demoman would do to a beer after spending 5 years without alcohol.
The taste reminded him of iron like blood, but it was different enough for him to know it wasn't just blood, especially because mixed with it were so many different tastes that his autistic tongue was just glad it wasn't pineapple or banana flavored as whatever that thing was still tasted better.
As he recovered from the mini sensorial overstimulation, he noticed that a couple changes happened.
First: It should be no surprise that Lucas was never a healthy person, having the posture of a shrimp and enough sensibility to light that a lightbulb on the other side of the house caused pain to his eyes... but something changed now. His body not only gained height and mass but also he was certain that even his hair and eyes changed.
Second: He suddenly no longer felt like a walking corpse, his body actually had the energy expected from a persistence hunter such as humans now.
And third, the most obvious one: The cube given to him by the Salesman was floating on the air and dividin in three parts, each of which transformed into one object.
The first object looked strangely advanced, like a handheld device with a pair of red flaps that move to reveal a screen surrounded by buttons.
The second object was the most simple one among all three objects, or at least it looked like it was, since it was merely a black-colored Medieval pouch belt.
The third one however was the most intresting one, a suit of armor that covers feet; legs; torso; shoulders; forearms and knuckles, it was made of animal parts such as scales; fur and skin, having clawed boots and knuckles, as well as looking surprisingly durable.
-What the- Lucas was not able to finnish his sentence as the three items transformed into small orbs of light and floated into his body, and suddenly a floating screen similar to the ones seen in manhwas and novels based on Solo Leveling and The Gamer appeared in front of his face.
[System installed. Welcome Player, information is being uploaded to your mind, do not resist]
-Information about wha- Lucas's words got interrupted by a groan as so much information filled his mind that he gained a headache, and remember he is not one to easily get overwhelmed by information.
After a couple seconds he was able to process all the information his brain "downloaded" from the System, such as it's basic working (doing Quests gives rewards, winning fights gives XP, using enough XP he can level up yadda yadda yadda you've seen it more times than some of my former classmates saw their fathers) as well as one particularly intresting detail: the System allowed him to "jump" across worlds.
What follows is his stats.
[Name: Lucas D Marvelous
Species: Human (Homo sapiens sapiens)
Bloodline: Essence Entity
LV: 01

HP: 100/100
MP: 300/300

SPE: 10

INT: 30WIS: 30]
Next it's his current skillset.
[Essence Entity Physiology: All essence imbibers become Essence Entities. Essence entities are biologically immortal (the good kind where sickness doesn’t affect you and you stay eternally in your physical and mental prime, though you remain just as vulnerable to violence as any other creature), receive a free aesthetic makeover within the bounds of their previous species (as well as restores you to peak health, if it is somehow relevant), and have a curious sort of luck when it comes to finding other creatures like themselves and the supernatural more broadly.
This slate of boons comes with the fact that each essence entity has a distinctive supernatural… scent that others can learn to identify if they encounter a specific essence entity enough times, but you are also quite good at sensing the supernatural signatures of other creatures.]
[Poison Immunity: You become immune to all forms of venom. You gain a resistance to plant-based or inorganic poisons, though while usually not fatal you still suffer symptoms of poisoning.
Diseases and parasites entering your body become inert until your body naturally expels them.]
[Tamer's Aura: Wild animals and monsters will not see you as a threat and only attack if rabid or attacked by you first.
Creatures of human intellect like Sphinxes or dragons capable of human speech can make the conscious choice to attack you, but will instinctively have a positive impression of you.]
[Mental Beastiary: You gain an instinctive knowledge of the characteristics of every beast you encounter, including their requirements for habitat and food, how to best approach them, and how to treat any injuries or illnesses they might have.]
[Taming: The key skill for any tamer. You are able to calm nearly any beast, regardless of how big or small they may be, whether they are predator or prey, or any other factor.
Once calmed, you can work to earn their trust and slowly work out the wildness from them, making them more willing to follow you and your orders, as well as being better able to control their instincts. The more intelligent and willful a creature is, the longer this can take.
Once the bond is complete the now tamed creature can be summoned to your side or dismissed either back where it came from or into a storage-dimension at will. Should a tamed creature die it will instead appear inside the storage-dimension and can be summoned after a waiting-period determined by the power of the creature.
Creatures with a completed bond will be completely loyal to you and you will be able to share their senses at will. You can have an unlimited number of Bonds.]
[Trainer of Beast: You have the ability to get your desires and ideas across to the creatures you’ve tamed and get an idea for theirs in turn, which improves as you get to know the creature better.
This gives you an advantage when training creatures, which you have a basic level of skill with, and makes it so the more mutual trust there is, the easier it becomes to train them.]
[Tamer’s Gift: Your tamed creatures naturally produce a small amount of energy, producing more when they are being trained, taught, or fighting in some way, with life or death struggles seeming to provide the most of this energy.
You can either allow this energy to pool in the creature that generated it or collect it for yourself. The more energy a creature has pooled in itself, the more in tune with their own form they become, the more they understand and can flex their own abilities, and the more they can push their limits beyond what standard training can do.
Energy you collect can be used to fuel certain abilities, to substitute for stamina drain, to augment the training of a creature and make it more effective, or to condense it into an edible, candy-like form that can give some of the energy used in its creation to a creature that eats it.
This will only give a fraction of the energy used in the creation of the candy and will not grant training on its own.
You have your own, separate pool you generate over time like any other creature, which you can allow to pool within yourself or collect it like any other creature.]
And the last relevant menu to be shown would be his inventory, which contained only three familiar items.
[Animal Map: This map device can be keyed to any type of animal a beastmaster could tame and it will update to show you where to find those types of animals, as well as zoom in when you enter that area to help you find specific ones. With this you’ll make for a grade A animal trafficker jumper.]
[Food: This is a pouch belt that contains pellets that can be keyed to any animal or animals, including humans, and will become both exceptionally delicious and incredibly nutritious for them. It can key itself to as many animals as necessary at once, and once its been keyed to someone it remembers them forever. This food is also strengthening and slightly restorative, pushing anyone who eats it to peak health, though its limited in its effectiveness to cure powerful and life-threatening diseases by itself.]
[Animal Armor: This strange suit of armor blends the features of several different animals, taking fur, scales, and even skin and forming one curious set of armor. This armor grows more protective as you tame and befriend more animals, taking on the qualities of the animals of you’ve tamed and trained. Unarmed blows you deal while wearing this armor are enhanced by their strength and take on shades of their abilities, such as having a horse’s speed or the venom of a spider.]
'So that is where those three items went when they became light orbs' Lucas thought as he remembers what just happened less than a minute ago.
