Chapter 1

✨ ONE CHAPTER — “Chosen”

My name is Anna, and I grew up in a house that looked peaceful on the outside but never slept on the inside.

Scene 1 — The Night Everything Shook

The fight started the same way it always did… with silence.

That heavy silence where you know something’s coming.

I sat on the edge of my bed, hugging my teddy bear, Annie. Outside my door, my parents’ voices rose—first sharp, then louder, then breaking into shouting. A plate hit the floor. I jumped.

“Mum, please…” I whispered, even though she couldn’t hear me.

Another crash.

I covered my ears.

I squeezed Annie tighter.

I tried to breathe.

Then my door opened just a little, and my mum peeked inside. Her hair was messy, and her eyes were tired, but she gave me the softest smile.

“It’s okay, baby. Try to sleep,” she whispered.

But I couldn’t. Not in that house.

At school, no one saw that version of me.

They saw the straight-A student, the one who always smiled.

No one saw the girl who cried into her teddy at night.

Scene 2 — The Last Argument

One evening, the shouting was worse than usual. The kind that feels final.

“You think I’m not good enough?” my mum said, her voice breaking.

“You didn’t even finish school!” my dad yelled. “I deserve better.”

My heart dropped.

I stepped out of my room just in time to see him grab his bag.

“Dad?” I whispered.

He didn’t look at me.

He walked past me.

Out the door.

And into a different life.

The house went quiet. A scary kind of quiet.

My mum sank to the floor, tears running down her face.

I wrapped my arms around her, and for the first time, I realized I wasn’t the only one hurting.

Scene 3 — College Days

Years later, I was in college, working as a student counselor.

My office wasn’t big — just a desk, two chairs, and a tiny window — but it was mine.

Sometimes students came in crying. Sometimes stressed. Sometimes lost.

I sat with them, listened to them, comforted them.

And every time I helped someone, I felt a bit of myself heal, too.

But there was still one part of me locked up — trust.

My friend Max tried to break through that wall.

“Anna,” he said one afternoon as we walked across campus, “you don’t always have to be strong alone.”

“I’m fine,” I said, even though I wasn’t.

He looked at me gently. “You deserve better than the pain you carry.”

I didn’t know how to answer.

So I changed the subject.

And I stepped away from him before I let myself get too close.

Scene 4 — Shiloh 2025

I remember the night clearly.

The music was soft.

People were praying around me.

Lights were dim.

I closed my eyes and whispered,

“God… please heal what I can’t.”

A warmth filled my chest — not suddenly, but slowly, like sunlight rising.

I cried, not from pain… but from release.

God hadn’t abandoned me.

God had chosen me.

And He wasn’t done writing my story.

Scene 5 — The Rise

Grace lifted me higher than I imagined.

I graduated.

I went to law school.

I passed my exams.

I became a lawyer.

The day I got my first paycheck, I ran home to my mum.

“We made it,” I said, tears in my eyes.

She hugged me tightly. “I always knew you would.”

Our little house finally felt peaceful.

Scene 6 — The Return

Then one afternoon, there was a knock at the door.

I opened it and froze.

My dad stood there.

“Anna… I’ve missed you,” he said, smiling like nothing had happened.

I stared at him. The same man who once made me feel invisible.

The same man who walked away without looking back.

Last time I checked, he made me feel like a mirror with no reflection.

But now… I shine brighter than the word reflection itself.

“I heard you’re successful now,” he added. “A lawyer. I’m proud of you.”

Proud?

Now?

I felt anger, but also clarity.

“I forgive you,” I said quietly.

“But you lost the right to be in my life.”

His smile faded.

He knew it was the truth.

And I closed the door.

Scene 7 — The Heart I Once Avoided

Later that week, I found Max sitting under a tree on campus, reading.

I sat beside him.

He looked surprised. “Anna? You okay?”

“For the first time… yes,” I said.

His eyes softened. “I’m glad.”

I took a breath. “Max… if you’re still willing… I want to give us a chance.”

He didn’t rush. He didn’t pressure me. He just smiled, warm and gentle.

“I’m right here,” he said.

For the first time, I felt what love should feel like — safe.

Final Scene — The Truth That Never Changed

My story isn’t about being chosen by my father.

It’s about being chosen by God.

Even when the world didn’t love me,

God always did.

And He healed me in ways I never expected.

End of Chapter.
