1. The little Policeman gets fired

That day the blue sky was clear and sunny.

It was rare for Yang Meng to encounter such beautiful weather, so he went out into the street to begin his patrol in good spirits. He passed a shop selling lottery tickets and stopped his car along the road out of habit. He went in and bought two scratch-off tickets. He didn’t win anything with the first one, but with the second one, he received five dollars, which he used to buy another scratch-off ticket. With that, he unexpectedly won five hundred dollars.

Yang Meng’s smile was so wide that it almost reached his ears.

“Today is a good day; everything I wished for has come true. Tomorrow will be another good day!” Yang Meng muttered and walked out of the shop. He took a deep breath of fresh air, feeling much more relaxed.

Since Yang Meng had overcome that difficult period of struggling to earn money, everything had gone smoothly. First, he had earned fifty thousand dollars in labor from Bai Luo Yin’s wedding, and then he had received a full attendance bonus. He had also won five hundred dollars on a scratch-off ticket just then... he even managed to get double egg yolks when he bought pancakes!

Maybe luck is about to turn…… thinking of this, Yang Meng happily opened the car door.

“Help!! Someone’s bullying me!!”

Hearing a woman’s shrill screams, Yang Meng’s nerves tensed, and he quickly followed the voice and ran toward her. He reached the corner of a street intersection and saw a man and a woman fighting on the ground. The woman was screaming as the man tugged at her skirt with his hands, and the woman’s stockings had a large hole in them. Eight people were standing around them, but no one came forward.

Yang Meng was angry, roared and rushed.

The group of people dispersed in the confusion. Not only did the man not stop his actions, but, seeing that a policeman had arrived, he continued to pull even harder. Seeing that the woman’s clothes were all torn, Yang Meng raised his baton and advanced to repeatedly strike the man.

“Let her go! Hurry up!” Yang Meng roared angrily.

The man had essentially looked down on Yang Meng, and he hadn’t had the courage to use too much force, despite his unwillingness to let go. Seeing that the man wouldn’t give up, Yang Meng struck him a hard blow with his wand. Although he was thin and weak, he hadn’t missed all the special training, so he had managed to apply some force to the blow.

That blow made the criminal immediately jump back.

“Fuck you! You dare to hit me? You dare to hit me?” The man grabbed Yang Meng by the collar.

Not to be outdone, Yang Meng roared: “What if I want to hit you? You’re lucky I hit you badly! Hurry up, follow me to the police station!”

Of course, the man didn’t obey, and Yang Meng wouldn’t let him go, so the two began their tug-of-war. The woman next to them stood up, straightened her clothes, and shouted to Yang Meng, “Thank you, Mr. Policeman. You absolutely must arrest him; he’s mistreated me so many times!”

Yang Meng’s blows grew stronger after hearing those words; even though his fists were small, he had hit the right spots. The man, though taller than him, was actually less strong; a light tap was enough to send him to the ground, a rare feat for Yang Meng. Not only could he knock him down with a few kicks, but he could also throw a few punches while still feeling as vigorous and strong as a tiger.

“Enough… enough!” With a movement of his leg, the criminal collapsed to the ground.

Yang Meng handcuffed him and dragged the man into the police car amidst many admiring glances.

“Mister Policeman, I don’t need to come, right?” The woman’s face was full of reluctance. Yang Meng hesitated for a moment and said, “You should follow me. I can help you.”

“I’m afraid I look so shabby…” The woman wiped away her tears.

Yang Meng immediately promised: “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you’re inside a room. No one will see you, I promise to keep it a secret.”

“I’m going home to change first, I’ll be back later!” said the woman, limping and running further and further away.

Yang Meng wanted to get out of the car and chase her, but seeing that the woman’s skirt had been torn and observing the boy in the car, he opened the door and started the engine.

“Zhou Zi, I got one!”

Could Yang Meng say he’d arrested someone again next time? His colleagues had only two options: either he’d come back bruised or he’d never come back at all. Not only had he been caught that day, he was also a healthy, unharmed man; this was truly something new!

“What happened?” asked Zhou Zi.

Yang Meng took a sip of water as he said, “Attack on the street.”

“How brave of him!”

Zhou Zi kicked the man in the groin and he locked his legs and cursed.

He was then dragged into the interrogation room by Zhou Zi. Yang Meng was outside drinking tea in peace, every pore on his body soothed and he felt particularly happy. Not just because he had caught a criminal, but rather it was a statement of his strengths. Yang Meng narcissistically admired his small fist, gesturing in the air, miming the blows he had inflicted.

After a while, a line of luxury cars pulled up in front of the police station entrance, and Yang Meng looked toward them out of curiosity. A woman, with eight muscular men behind her, entered with a stern expression. Yang Meng recognized the woman as the same one who had been attacked earlier that afternoon.

Surprisingly, she actually came, but the way she entered was a bit strange.

“Eh……” Yang Meng held out his arm in front of the woman: “She’s not allowed to beat people inside the police station! No matter how much she hates him, we’ll help her!”

Unexpectedly, the woman who had politely thanked him earlier immediately changed her attitude, pointed at Yang Meng, and said to the men behind her: “It’s him! He’s the one who bullied me and even arrested my husband. Where is the police station chief? Come out and explain to me why the police arrested my husband like this. Hurry up, or I’ll start breaking things in here if you don’t come!”

Yang Meng was confused: “Why is she doing this? Eh, but that wasn’t her…….”

“I was what?” The woman shrieked and pointed at Yang Meng’s nose as she scolded him: “You dirty bastard! Are you worthy of being a policeman? You took advantage of a woman while on patrol and even beat my husband when he tried to stop you! Don’t you have a conscience?”

“……”

The argument continued until nine o’clock that evening before Yang Meng was sent home.

The next morning, Yang Meng was called to the boss’s office.

“Boss, that woman was just talking nonsense. Do you think I’m that kind of person? I may not have that much money, but isn’t it worth taking advantage of women on the street? One look and...”

“Everything’s fine.” The boss’s expression was grim: “I don’t think you’re that kind of person.”

Yang Meng breathed a sigh of relief.

“It’s enough as long as you believe me.”

The chief raised his eyelids and looked at Yang Meng, saying in a serious tone: “Anyway, this matter has caused a very serious uproar. Besides, if you didn’t provoke her earlier, why did she react like this?”

Yang Meng complained about the injustice he was suffering: “I don’t even know her!”

“This way, Meng Zi…….” The boss paused: “Listen to me, these people are difficult to deal with. They’ve threatened to come here every night to destroy everything if you don’t leave. Honestly, I’m just the head of a small police station and I want to live a quiet life. I’m getting old; I can’t afford to give up everything and start over. But YOU are young, you still have a long way to go, and you could have plenty of other opportunities in the future. Honestly, it’s quite unfair and depressing to work in this kind of place your whole life.”

Yang Meng’s burning heart turned stone cold in an instant.
