All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

In the sun-bleached corridors of Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Professor Vedant Khanna is a man defined by constants. A brilliant academic who had returned from the UK with a cold gaze and an even colder grading scale, he has no room for variables, especially not the defiant, quick-witted Vanshika Mehra. As a final-year student with her sights set on a prestigious career, Vanshika is the only one brave enough to challenge Vedant’s absolute authority. What starts as a fierce intellectual rivalry in the lecture halls soon shifts into a dangerous magnetic pull in the quiet corners of the university archives.

Blurb, Character Description and Tropes

In the hallowed, sandstone corridors of Pandit Deendayal Energy University, life follows a strict set of thermodynamic laws. For Professor Vedant Khanna, a man whose reputation is as cold and unyielding as the industrial turbines he studies, there is no room for error. Returning from a prestigious fellowship in the UK, he arrives at Gandhinagar with one goal: to enforce a standard of academic excellence that leaves no soul unscathed.

Then there is Vanshika Mehra.

A final-year topper with a mind like a lightning bolt and a tongue that refuses to be silenced, Vanshika is the only student who dares to solve the equations Vedant hasn’t even finished writing. She is the anomaly in his data, the friction in his perfectly greased machinery. What begins as a volatile clash of egos in the lecture hall spirals into a dangerous magnetic pull in the silence of the university library.

But in a culture where the ‘Guru’ is a pillar of morality and the ‘Student’ is a reflection of family honour, their resonance is a forbidden frequency. As the Gandhinagar heat simmers and a forced research collaboration pushes them into the shadows, the lines between mentor and lover begin to blur. In the ultimate test of logic versus longing, Vedant must decide if he can risk his legacy for the one variable he never saw coming.

Characters:

Vedant Khanna (30)

·The Persona: The “Gold Standard.” Vedant is the youngest ever Head of Department (HOD) at PDEU. He is a man of low-frequency speech and high-frequency intellect/ to his students, he is the “Glacier,” beautiful to look at but capable of sinking any ambition with a single red pen stroke.

·Physicality: Tall with a lean, athletic build from years of rowing at Oxford. He has sharp, angular features and deep-set eyes that rarely blink when he’s lecturing. He wears rimless glasses and tailor-made shirts in shades of charcoal, navy, and white.

·The Quirk: He meticulously cleans his glasses whenever he is flustered or losing his temper, a rhythmic, grounding habit.

Vanshika Mehra (21)

·The Persona: The “Wildcard.” Vanshika is the final-year topper who doesn’t just study energy; she is energy. She is the girl who sits in the front row, not just to impress, but to interrogate. She has a photographic memory for equations but a complete lack of filter for social hierarchies.

·Physicality: She has a restless, kinetic grace. Her hair is usually a chaotic bun held together by a stray ballpoint pen. She prefers oversized cotton Kurtis, oxidised silver Jhumkas that jingle when she tilts her head, and a constant smudge of ink on her thumb.

·The Quirk: She hums old Bollywood melodies under her breath when she is solving a complex derivation, a habit that infuriates Vedant in the quiet archives.

The Families

The Khanna Clan (Delhi Elite)

·Vikram Khanna (Father): A retired Supreme Court judge. He views life as a series of verdicts. To him, Vedant is not a son, but a “Legacy Carrier.” He expects Vedant to marry a woman of equal status and maintain the “Khanna Dignity” at all costs.

·Amrita Khanna (Mother): A sophisticated socialite who manages the family’s image like a PR firm. She loves Vedant but fears his “Coldness.” She is already shortlisting daughters of Delhi’s elite for his “settling down” phase.

·The Dynamic: Polished, quiet, and transactional. There is no shouting in the Khanna house, only “disappointed silences” that cut deeper than words.

The Mehra Household (Ahmedabad Middle-Class)

·Sanjay Mehra (Father): A retired bank manager who sacrificed his savings for Vanshika’s PDEU fees. He is her biggest cheerleader, but is terrified of “Log Kya Kahenge” (What will people say). His heart condition is the unspoken leash that keeps Vanshika from being truly reckless.

·Sudha Mehra (Mother): The emotional glue. She is warm, makes the best thepla, and has a sixth sense for when Vanshika is lying. She is traditional and believes a woman’s “safety” lies in a good marriage.

·Ishita Mehra (Sister): The bratty but observant younger sibling. She is the first to notice Vanshika’s glowing face after a “late-night library session.” She represents the future Vanshika is trying to protect.

·The Dynamic: Lous, colourful, and suffocatingly lovely. It is a home filled with the smell of tadka and the constant pressure of communal expectations.

Supporting Characters:

·Dr Ashutosh Verma (45): The Dean of PDEU and a family friend of the Khannas. He is the man who brought Vedant to Gandhinagar. He represents the institution’s “Watchful Eyes.”

·Sameer (21): Vanshika’s best friend and a fellow student. He is the “Golden Boy” that Vanshika’s parents wish she would marry. His unrequited feelings for Vanshika will become a major source of friction for Vedant’s jealousy.

·Professor Nandini (30): A junior faculty member who has her eyes on Vedant. She is the “socially acceptable” match for him and will be the first to suspect the illicit spark between the HOD and his student.

The Environment: PDEU Gandhinagar

The university is a character in itself. The sprawling green campus, the solar panels glinting in the Gujarat sun, the quiet corridors of the Petroleum block, and the “High Tension” labs. It is a place of high stakes where one mistake can lead to an explosion, both literal and metaphorical.

Core Tropes:
