Chapter 1 First day at School
She had always dreamed of studying in a grand, luxurious school—one of those places where everything looked expensive and perfect. But coming from a middle-class family, it was only a dream she couldn’t afford.
Still, she refused to give up.
Day and night, she worked hard, pushing herself beyond her limits. Her goal was clear: to get into one of the most prestigious schools in Hong Kong. And finally, after all her effort, she passed the scholarship exam.
That day, she felt like the world had finally opened its doors to her.
The first morning of April arrived quietly, wrapped in soft sunlight. The sky was calm, painted in gentle shades of gold and blue.
She woke up early.
Standing by the window, she watched the sunrise, her heart filled with excitement. This is it, she thought. The first step toward my future.
Today was her first day.
After getting ready, she stood at the door, her heart beating just a little faster than usual. At exactly 8:00 a.m., a sleek car pulled up in front of her house. A man stepped out and politely gestured for her to get in.
She hesitated for a second… then stepped inside.
The car stopped at the school gate.
The moment she stepped out, her breath caught.
The school didn’t look modern at all. Instead, it felt… ancient. The tall marble walls, the heavy wooden doors, and the silence surrounding the place made it feel like it belonged to another time.
In the center of the garden stood a strange, old clock, surrounded by unusual flowers that seemed almost too still, too perfect.
A faint chill ran down her spine.
Why does this place feel so… different?
As she walked in, her confidence slowly faded.
She didn’t know anyone here.
What if they didn’t like her?
What if they laughed at her?
Her thoughts tangled together as she stepped forward, trying to stay calm.
Suddenly—
Thud.
A boy bumped into her.
Before she could react, something fell to the ground—a keychain from his bag. Without even looking at her properly, he muttered a quick “sorry” and rushed away.
She blinked, confused.
Then she bent down and picked it up.
A silver rose.
It was delicate, beautifully crafted… yet strangely cold in her hand.
And then—
A voice.
Soft. Unfamiliar. Right beside her ear.
“Don’t pick it up… Whoever touches it will have a difficult life.”
She froze.
Her heart skipped a beat as she quickly looked around.
No one was there.
“…What was that?” she whispered.
But there was no answer.
Clutching the keychain, she slowly made her way to the classroom.
The room fell silent as she entered.
The teacher smiled and turned to the class.
“Class, this is your new classmate. Please treat her kindly.”
All eyes were on her.
She swallowed her nervousness and forced a small smile.
“Hello… My name is Shenshen. I hope we can get along well. You can call me Shen.”
A few students nodded. Others whispered.
She looked around for a seat.
Only one was empty.
At the back.
Next to a boy.
He didn’t look like someone people easily approached.
Leaning lazily in his chair, with an unreadable expression, he gave off a cold, distant aura—as if the entire world bored him.
Still, she walked up to him and sat down.
The whispers in the classroom grew louder.
“Hi, my name is—”
“I know.”
She blinked.
He didn’t even look at her properly.
“You’re Shenshen,” he said flatly. “I’m Fu Shihan. You can call me A-Chen.”
“Oh… okay.” She hesitated for a moment, then smiled. “Anyway… would you like to be my friend?”
That got his attention.
Slowly, he turned his head and looked at her—really looked this time.
There was something sharp in his eyes.
“Why?” he asked.
She shrugged lightly. “Do I need a reason?”
“I’m not a good person.”
She tilted her head slightly. “Then what are you trying to tell me?”
A faint, almost dangerous smile appeared on his lips.
“I don’t want to be your friend,” he said quietly. “I want to kill you.”
There was a pause.
Then she blinked.
“…Isn’t that illegal?”
For a moment, he just stared at her.
Confused.
Amused.
Curious.
What kind of girl is she?
Without another word, he leaned back, closed his eyes… and fell asleep.
Lunch Break
The cafeteria was loud and crowded.
Shenshen quietly took her food and sat at a table, trying not to draw attention.
But attention found her anyway.
A girl walked toward her, a mocking smile on her face.
“Oh—sorry!”
The girl pretended to trip.
The next second, a plate full of food spilled all over Shenshen.
Gasps echoed around the room.
Her dress was ruined.
For a moment, everything went still.
Then—
Shenshen calmly picked up her spoon… and continued eating.
As if nothing had happened.
Across the room, someone had been watching.
Fu Shihan.
He stood up.
Without hesitation, he walked straight toward the girl who had caused it.
“Apologize.”
His voice was low, but firm.
The girl froze.
“I—I didn’t—”
“I said, apologize.”
There was no room for argument.
Her face turned pale.
“I’m sorry…” she muttered, quickly bowing her head.
The entire cafeteria fell silent.
No one had ever seen him do this before.
Without another word, Fu Shihan took off his coat and placed it on Shenshen’s shoulders.
“Wear it.”
She looked up at him, surprised.
Even the teachers were staring now.
No one could believe what they were seeing.
Fu Shihan… protecting someone?
A girl?
For the first time ever?
As he walked away, Shenshen watched him quietly.
A small, thoughtful smile formed on her lips.
What a strange boy…
He doesn’t want to be my friend…
But he protects me like one.
