The roar of thunder
Something I’ve always wondered is what if a maine coon was in warrior cats. A maine coon is a breed of house cat that is truly giant. So now introducing, a warrior’s heart.
Redtail and Whitestorm padded through their territory. Overhead dark clouds grew and the sky began to open up. “We should head back.” Said Whitestorm as he looked up at the sky. “Looks like it will be one heck of a storm.”
Redtail was silent. “Redtail? Are you…”
“Did you hear that?” asked Redtail.
Whitestorm’s ears perked. “Hear what?” The sounds of a barking dog and a yowling cat erupted through the forest. Both cats rushed towards the sound as the rain began to come down in sheets. Redtail and Whitestorm arrived at the river, the rain was coming down so hard they could barely see anything.
Redtail suddenly pointed across the ragging river. “LOOK!” On the other side of the river a huge cat the size of a fox faced off against a dog.
Redtail raced towards the water, “We got to help!” he yelled. Whitestorm jumped in-between Redtail and the river, “The rivers going to fast, you’ll be swept away.”
“We’ve got to…” before Redtail could finish lighting flashed as the giant rouge tackled the dog, they both fell into the river and were washed away. Redtail and Whitestorm stood silently taking in what they had just witnessed. Then a kitten’s cry split the air. Both cats headed over to the sunning rocks where a giant brown kitten was hidden.
“That cat must have been her mother.” Reasoned Whitestorm.
Redtail licked the kitten. “I got a name for her.”
“Already?”
“Yea.”
“Ok, lets hear it.” Thunder boomed overhead as Redtail said, “Thunderkit.”
Thunderpaw padded after Bluestar as they patrolled. “Bluestar, I’m telling you I’m ready to be a warrior!”
“Thunderpaw, you’ve only been an apprentice for two months. Becoming a warrior is impossible. You’re not ready.”
Suddenly Ravenpaw burst out of the bushes. “Bluestar! Thunderpaw! Theres a battle at the sunning rocks!”
“Consider me there!” yelled Thunderpaw as she rushed off with Bluestar behind her. As they arrive they could hear Redtail hiss. “Oakhear! How dare you hunt in Thunderclan territory!”
From the top of the Sunning rocks Oakheart yelled. “After tonight, the sunning rocks with belong to Riverclan.”
“Oh really?” asked Thunderpaw. Oakheart whipped around to see the massive apprentice had snuck up on him. Thunderpaw grabbed Oakheart by his scruff and tossed him off the Sunning rocks with such force he fell into the river. Thunderpaw leapt off the Sunning rocks tackling another Riverclan cat.
Another Riverclan cat tried to tackle Thunderpaw, but it was like running into a tree. Thunderpaw sent the cat flying with a swipe of her paw. Yet another Riverclan cat tackled Thunderpaw from behind and reached over her head scrapping claws along her eye. Thunderpaw reared up and pushed her back against a rock flatting the Riverclan cat. “RETREAT!” yelled Oakheart. As the Riverclan cats retreated each Thunderclan cat found themselves staring at Thunderpaw. An apprentice who’d just bested four full grown warriors as if they were kittens. Thunder cracked behind Thunderroar as she let out a cry of victory and there Bluestar relized Thunderpaw was more than a warrior. She was something else entirely
Bluestar’s voice rang throughout the clan. “All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather around beneath the high rock for a clan meeting.”
Poppypaw came out of Spottedleaf’s den and sat next to her best friend Thunderpaw below the high rock. Thunderpaw noticed Poppypaw’s bloodshot eyes.
“Didn’t you sleep last night?” asked Thunderpaw. Poppypaw shook her head. “After this, I’ll clean the medicine cat den, you go get some sleep.”
“Thunderpaw I can’t let you do all the…”
“I insist.”
From the high rock Bluestar started the meeting. “Clan, today we gather around for a special ceremony.” Began Bluestar. “As we all know Thunderpaw. The rouges kit we found, who has blessed our clan with her strength, courage, and honor. She has always strived to put others ahead of herself and has never backed down from a fight. She may have only been an apprentice for two moons but her huge heart -both figuratively and literally- has allowed her to become one of our finest fighters. So I think it is time she joins the warriors. Thunderpaw. Step forward.” Thunderpaw leaped forward her eyes shining proudly. “I, Bluestar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. They have trained tirelessly to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn.”
Thunderpaw’s becoming a warrior! Screamed Poppypaw’s mind. As Bluestar paused in the ceremony, Poppypaw waited for yowls of protest from her clanmates. Surely someone would object. But there was none. Everyone liked Thunderpaw. She was kind and honest, she listened to the elders stories, she aways was eager to help the warriors out, and she was well liked by Redtail. So Bluestar continued.
“Thunderpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?”
Thunderpaw looked up at Bluestar. “I’ve never meant anything more in my life then now when I say I do.”
Bluestar smiled. “Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Thunderkit, from this moment on you will be known as Thunderroar. StarClan honors your bravery, strength, honesty, loyalty. and we welcome you as a full warrior of Thunderclan.
Bluestar rested her muzzle on Thunderroars head, and Thunderroar licked the leader’s shoulder. And whispered. “You won’t regret this. I promise.” After everyone began to chant Thunderroar’s new name, Thunderroar padded up and sat by Poppypaw.
After congratulating Thunderroar Poppypaw began to pad back to her den. Before she got there Blizzardpaw raced up to her. “Hey Poppypaw.”
Poppypaw looked over at Blizzard. “Hey Blizzard. I can you believe Thunderroar is a warrior?”
Blizzardpaw shook his head, “Its unbelievable.” Then he looked at his feet nervously. “I er… have something else that’s pretty unbelievable. You think Spottedleaf would miss you if your gone for a moment?”
Poppypaw glanced over at the medicine cat den. “Umm… well, I guess not, if we’re not gone for that long I mean.”
“Really? Great! Follow me.” Blizzardpaw raced out of the camp and Poppypaw stayed right on his tail.
They finally stopped at the tree cut place, Blizzardpaw quickly began scaling the fence. “Blizzardpaw?” asked Poppypaw. “You’re not going in, are you? Are we allowed to do that?”
“I’m pretty sure we’ll be fine.”
“How do you know this is safe? What if….”
“Just trust me.” Said Blizzardpaw from atop the fence. He reached out his paw to help her on. Once they got on the fence Blizzardpaw climbed into an oak tree touching the fence and from there he carefully scaled the twoleg nest roof.
At one point Poppypaw slipped on the steep roof. “HELP!” she yelped as she scrambled for a holding. Blizzardpaw grabbed her just in time and hauled her to the top of the roof where she could get a good grip.
“I’m so sorry. Are you ok?” he asked.
“I think I’m ok.” Whispered Poppypaw. “What is it you want to show me? Look, I’m getting a bit tired and Spottedleaf will be waiting for me so maybe we should just…”
“Poppypaw?” began Blizzardpaw.
“Yes?”
“Turn around.”
Poppypaw slowly began to turn around and she gasped. She could see the entire thunderclan territory behind it sat an orange sky dotted by pink clouds as the golden sun dipped behind the mountain. “Well?” asked Blizzardpaw. “Isn’t it stunning?”
“Its amazing.” Whispered Poppypaw. Then as she said that Blizzardpaw wrapped his tail around her own. At first, it felt wonderful. Then with a jolting realization Poppypaw was snapped into reality. She was looking at the sunset with a tom-cat, she was holding tails with a TOM-CAT! She was a medicine cat she wasn’t supposed to be doing this! By doing this she was going against the warrior code! Poppypaw began to stumble back but she lost her footing and with a scream she slid down the steep roof.
“POPPYPAW!” Yelped Blizzardpaw grabbing onto her scruff. Her weight dragged him down and they both slid down the roof. “Hold on!” screamed Blizzardpaw as he shifted in front of Poppypaw and leaned to one side steering them into a tree. Poppypaw hit her head on several branches before she was able to get a grip and pull herself onto a branch close to the trunk.
“BLIZZARDPAW!” she yowled in terror.
“I’m over here!” called Blizzardpaw from a branch above her. He quickly climbed down to her branch. “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine. I just bumped my head one to many times. And I think I have a splinter on the top of my paw.”
“Here, let me try to lick it out.” Meowed Blizzardpaw as he took her paw and began to lick it. Poppypaw didn’t stop him until she realized. I am sitting in a tree with a tomcat that just saved my life that is now licking my paw. Poppypaw yelped and pulled her paw back. Blizzardpaw looked up at her.
“What is… Oh…. Poppypaw. I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Of course not. Let’s just get home.” Poppypaw turned around and began the journey home with Blizzardpaw a few pawsteps behind her.
Blizzardpaw looked up at her after a minute “Hey, is that splinter still bothering you?”
