My Grandfather
Anna's POV
I am now sitting at my own desk. Evan set me up with my own luna office. I have a stack of correspondence requests in front of me. I pick one of them up and open it. It’s a letter addressed to me.
Dear Anna,
I am so happy to learn of your existence. I have been looking for you since Eric and Sarah’s death. I was unable to meet you when they were alive, but learning that Alpha Ian has been removed as alpha and according to the news he will be put to death soon has allowed me to finally be able to reach out.
I continue reading, my heart pounding.
I hope that you can come to your home pack to meet me. You have relatives that would love to see you as well.
Sincerely yours,
Your Grandfather
My grandfather is still alive? I don't know why but I assumed he had died long ago. He wants me to come visit him. But they rejected my mother because she was half-wolf. Would they reject me? Would the current alpha reject me?
Maybe I could meet my grandfather in a nearby restaurant or somewhere neutral. That way, I don't have to see anybody else yet.

I spoke to Evan about the letter and he agreed that meeting him in a neutral location was safer, for everyone. But he insisted on sending a guard with me, which I agreed with.
I sent a correspondence back to my grandfather to meet me two days later at a park that I found that was halfway between us. I hoped he agreed because I had no way of confirming.

I am sitting in the back of the pack's car, watching the scenery go by. I am feeling very nervous about meeting anyone from my family. The letter said I had relatives that want to see me soon. Do they know I'm only half-wolf? Are they half-wolf?
We arrive at the park and pull over. Looking around, I get out and ask the guard to stay in the car, but keeping a lookout. We aren't too far away for the mind-link not to work, so we are connected to Evan still.
I stroll over to a bench and glance around. There's a lovely lake ahead of me and I can hear kids playing on the nearby playground. Families to my left are playing with a frisbee and flying kites. It's the new year, but it's a surprisingly warm day, so people are taking advantage of it.
Looking to my right, I see a tall man with silver hair that looks surprisingly young.
"Anna?" he tentatively walks toward me.
I stand up and nod. A smile breaks on his face.
"You look a lot like your mother. It had to be you," he was crying when he stepped up to me.
I felt awkward. I invited him to sit next to me.
"I'm so glad you reached back out to me. I was scared that you wouldn't," he said.
We spent the next hour talking about my life after my father and mother died. He was still mourning his son's death and I could feel his anguish of it. He tells me about my family that I don't know. I have an aunt and two cousins as well as my grandmother and uncle. She's still alive as well. My grandparents had to go into hiding when Alpha Ian's father was the alpha, then had to stay in hiding when Alpha Ian took over. He wasn't able to talk to his son or see me because it was unsafe to do so. Then, when they learned of his death, they didn't want to come out of hiding. My father's beta took over as alpha after my parents left.
"Everyone in the pack was accepting of Luna Sarah, your mother. But the council wasn't. Today, many of the council members are different and are more conservative in their views. I spoke with a few of them and they would accept you if you came back," my grandfather told me.
"But I'm luna of the White River pack. My place is with my mate," I explained.
"I understand. But would you at least visit?"
"I will think about it. I'm still not sure."
We talked a little longer and agreed to keep in touch. I gave him my phone number and we agreed to meet again soon, only I could meet my grandmother next. She couldn't come today because she wasn't feeling well.
I left feeling positive about my new relationship with my grandfather. I just hope the rest of my family is just as nice.

Evan's POV
I trust that Anna made it safely to see her grandfather. I didn't know how she would handle seeing her new pack and I worried about her. Her guard ensured that everything went ok and that they were on their way back.
I missed her but I needed to focus on my prisoners. They were both sentenced to death, I just had to put the paperwork through in order to make it happen. I refused to allow my father and Nessa to stay alive any longer than I had to. I made that mistake once before and it almost cost me my love.
I keep having nightmares about that day. Seeing Anna laying dead in that field. Blood surrounding her. That pain in my chest when the bond severed. Hearing my pack members howl in pain because they felt the severance as well.
Clearing my head of those memories, I get back to work.
An hour later, Anna arrived back to the pack house. I hear her coming in downstairs and I know she will be up here soon. Sure enough, I hear a tap on the door and she enters. She sighs and walks around the desk.
"How was it?" I ask her as she sits on my lap.
"It went ok actually. Apparently I have other relatives. Cousins and an aunt. And my grandmother is also alive," she looks relieved.
"So, he was accepting?"
My mate nodded. "He also said that most of the pack members were accepting of my mom, it was the council that wasn't. But he said many of the council members are different from back then and that many are conservative and welcoming to me."
I hug her, smelling her hair. It always calmed me. She always soothed me. She said that they exchanged phone numbers and she plans to see him again. She also wants to visit her home pack soon, she's just nervous about it. I told her I would support her in any way I can.
