What is your opinion?

Awesome

"This was an awesome read, it made me think of something Edgar Allan Poe would write well the ending did how kept climbing like he was in a trance or something only in the end it led to probably a missing persons case with no witness', but seriously this was amazing."

Evocative

"I found this story very enjoyable. Most of all, I loved the descriptions in your writing, of the old man and the black square; the sound of the doorbell being like a wasp trapped in a jar. I hope that you will add more to it."

Left me gasping.

"Short stories, especially from the horror/paranormal realm... I really did not know what to expect when I started the story. All it said was a black square. But the story was short, crisp and really left me wanting for more. Very well written and enjoyable!"

Good Short Horror

"I could imagine this in the form of series that contains two stories per episodes, like Goosebumps back there when I was a kid :D Well, I like your story overall. It was unpredictable. I always like this kind of horror where the ending is like that! You wrote with enough details that it is not boring, though the scenes are pretty simple. I like the idea of the black square connecting 'dimensions' and I somehow imagined the man bringing the square looked like Slenderman. Anyway, I'm sorry that I can't say much for this review. I just want to let you know what I think ;) Regards, Kei Angelus"

Where did her go?

"Okay, so I really need to know where he went! What a way to leave a first chapter. Very cool. Overall I enjoyed this story, and I've been left itching for more. The concept of the story is interesting, and I like this mystery of the old man. Your writing style is very easy to read, and I felt the story flowed well. I keep laughing to myself at the fact that the main character is now (probably) in some unknown dimension, in his bath robe! Love it, keep it up!"

Great, solid and descriptive writing

"Love the style and the pace. Very well done and really quite polished. Moves quickly and each sentence conveys valuable information and doesn't seem extraneous or lazy. Active voice and easy to read. However, I was a bit at a loss for the MCs motives for actually crawling into the canvas--why did he do that? Was he just curious or compelled and couldn't stop? That didn't seem to make sense to me. And then, just what happened to him? I wanted there to be something more evident, and perhaps that's just me and that I'm not clever enough to deduce what happened. The horror comes through with the repetition of the delivery man's words, but the gravity of what's happened was slightly lost on me because I wasn't certain what was being referenced in that phrase. But maybe that's the horror of it? So in short, I feel like the story is ALMOST there, but falls short just barely. It's so good, but I just wasn't sure what happened. Great work otherwise. Looking forward to reading more of your stuff!"

Quite the Interesting Set-up

"I liked this quite a bit. A short story, one that could either stop where it does, or perhaps go on, further. I can see it going either way. It's certainly one those stories that leaves things open to the reader's interpretation, and I get the feeling this black square was a manifestation of Callow's own loneliness and solitude--with a slightly sinister twist at the end. It makes me wonder if he'll ever get out. I think it has potential, and with some tightening up in certain areas and beefing up in others, it would make a great addition to a book of short stories--horror, mysteries, supernatural...what-have-you."
