A Story Song about a Fairy
From the white sands of her tropical home
Caladesi the Fairy decided to roam,
from the lush island where she had been born
and gave peace to the hearts that oft came there forlorn.
For many people did come to her isle,
and it tickled her fancy to cause them to smile
even just for a while.
Born when a lightning bolt makes glass from sand
and thus preferring the shoreline to the land,
long had her people defied human eyes
with features cast in the colors of the skies.
She brought invisible healing to everyone who came,
but hopes to minister further had set her soul aflame.
She longed to learn what disturbed every heart,
so she determined that she’d depart
into the mainland that lay to the east
as she observed that the west wind had increased.
She hoped to discover how to help them all,
although compared to the challenge
she knew that she was small.
Caladesi took to the air
headed for she knew not where
Clouds of seagulls cried as she went
to their sorrow loudly giving vent
Some escorted her on her way
still insisting that she stay
She just laughed, for such was her wont,
as she left her island haunt
Out of the west
she forsook the island that she knew best
Crossing the shore
on her way to Evermore
She saw the park
where the people came from morning ’til dark
to catch the ride
that would take them to her island home’s side
Caladesi took to the air
headed for she knew not where
Over Pinellas, the county, she flew
Suburban neighborhoods came into view
But no one was seen in a yard or a pool
She knew not they were at work or at school
Manicured lawns stretched out before her eyes
with no one enjoying them to her surprise
Such opulent emptiness seemed such a waste
And spurred by confusion she flew on in haste

As she looked eastward she saw with surprise
the shimmer of wave tops that greeted her eyes
The body of water, which was Tampa Bay,
stretched endlessly out and foreshadowed her way
Over the foamy and froth-laden shore
she followed the Causeway and onward did soar
Ahead in the distance she saw Tampa rise,
The steel and glass towers bedazzled her eyes
She suddenly wondered what she’d had in mind
“They have all the magic,” she thought of mankind
But as she was closing on the distant shore,
she was assailed by an overhead roar
♫
She was just beyond the outskirts of TIA
Loud jets flew overhead, each on their way
She sought a place of escape she could go,
beholding a mall on the shoreline below
Parking lot chaos drove her on inside
The people were crowded; the aisles weren’t wide
She followed a family as they made their way
on up to the checkout and into the fray
Then out of the store and on out to their car
Despite all the traffic, they made it that far
She watched them maneuver on out of the lot
They had to take home everything they had got
They never slowed down or had time for a frown
Cooking and dishes and processing mail
then helping with homework lest somebody fail
tucking the kids in and watching some shows
then bedtime and how lovemaking goes
♫
Hovering there in the quiet abode,
silent except for some sounds from the road,
she understood why some people were sad
They had no time just to enjoy what they had
So she went back to her tropical isle,
where at least she could make some people smile,
the one place she knew of where someone so small
could possibly make the biggest difference of all
