Chapter 1
Once upon a time, in the village of Zakare, there lived a wealthy man named Deo and his wife, Rovi. They were blessed with great riches—a luxurious mansion, cars, and many servants. Yet, despite all their wealth, a deep sadness resided in their hearts; they had lived for many years without a child.
After a long season of patience and prayers, God finally blessed Rovi with a pregnancy. Joy filled their home, but that happiness was short-lived. One day, Deo spoke words that deeply wounded Rovi’s heart: “Rovi, with this pregnancy, I do not want you to give birth to twins.” Rovi was devastated. Her heart was filled with fear, sorrow, and unanswered questions. She did not understand why her husband harbored such hatred for the idea of twins, but she chose to remain silent and leave everything in God’s hands.
Time passed, and the day of delivery arrived. Rovi was taken to the hospital under the care of doctors while Deo remained at work. After intense labor, by the grace of God, Rovi gave birth to twin boys. To anyone else, this would have been a moment of immense joy, but for Rovi, her happiness was mixed with terror. Her husband’s words echoed in her mind. She pitied her children, but she feared what Deo might do if he discovered the truth.
After being discharged, Rovi was driven home by their guard. On the way, before reaching the house, she asked the driver to stop near the farm of an old woman known as Green Martha. Under a large tree with thick shade, Rovi stepped out of the car. With trembling hands, she took one of the twins, held him close to her chest, and with a heart full of pain, gently laid him down beneath the tree. Tears streamed down her face. Heavy questions filled her mind: Would this child be taken by evil people? Would he live or die? How could a mother abandon her own child out of fear of her husband? Heartbroken, Rovi returned to the car and left, heading home with only one child.
When she arrived, she found Deo had returned from work. Eagerly, he asked, “How was the delivery?” With a low voice, Rovi replied, “I have given birth... to a baby boy.” Deo was overjoyed. He thanked God for giving him a male heir, unaware of the heavy secret hidden in his wife’s heart.
The following morning, Green Martha woke up early to go to her farm. As she was clearing the land, she heard the faint cry of a baby. She stopped, listened carefully, and followed the sound to the large tree. She was shocked to find a newborn baby boy alone. Without hesitation, she took him home. Green Martha had no children of her own, but she had a heart full of compassion. She bathed the baby, warmed some cow’s milk, and fed him. From that day on, a new life began.
The child who remained at Deo and Rovi’s home was named Matheo, while the one rescued and raised by Green Martha was named Mathias. Mathias grew up in hardship. He was taught to be independent, to work hard, to respect others, and to live by the sweat of his brow. He did odd jobs—polishing shoes, cutting grass, and farming—to help them survive. Matheo, on the other hand, was raised in luxury. He received everything he wanted without working hard. He never knew hunger or struggle.
As the years passed, Mathias grew into a young man of wisdom and humility, while Matheo was surrounded by indulgence and wealth—neither of them knowing that somewhere else lived his own blood brother, living a completely different life.
And that is where the true story of THE TWINS begins...
Years passed slowly, and the two boys grew up without knowing the truth about their lives. Matheo continued to live in wealth and luxury, while Mathias was raised by Green Martha in an ordinary life, learning to work hard and be independent.
When he reached young adulthood, Mathias decided to go to the city to seek a better life. He did not encounter as much trouble as many might have expected. Because of his diligence and good character, he quickly found various jobs—including polishing shoes, assisting in shops, and performing small odd jobs that enabled him to survive well.
One morning, as he sat by the roadside near some business buildings, doing his shoe-polishing work, a luxury car suddenly stopped in front of him. The door opened, and a man stepped out in a hurry, angry and racing against time.
It was Deo.
Without even looking at him properly, he told him harshly: “You! Hurry, polish my shoes—I’m late for work!”
Mathias stood up quickly and began his work with skill. Deo continued to bark at him: “Hurry up! I have no time to waste!”
Mathias remained silent, performing his work calmly. He did not know he was polishing the shoes of his own father... and Deo did not know he was standing before his own son.
After finishing, Deo threw money at him without even looking properly, then left in a hurry. Mathias remained watching him leave, feeling a strange sensation in his heart.
Days continued to pass.
Then, on another day, in that same area, another luxury car stopped before Mathias. The door opened with a confident air, and a young man stepped out, dressed in expensive clothing with a haughty look on his face.
It was Matheo.
Without a greeting, he told him in a voice full of contempt: “You, come here! Polish my shoes—hurry, I don’t have time!”
Mathias looked at him for a few seconds, then remained silent and began his work. But Matheo started complaining: “Why are you so slow? Hurry up! You are wasting my time!”
His voice was harsh and condescending, exactly like his father’s... without him knowing it.
Mathias tried to work quickly, but deep in his heart, he felt the pain of being belittled. When he finished, Matheo did not even say thank you. He threw the money down with disdain in front of Mathias, then said: “Make sure you learn to work faster!”
Then he drove off without even looking back.
Mathias bent down, picking up the money slowly. His eyes showed composure... but deep inside, something had been touched. He didn’t know why... but he felt that the disdain was heavier than usual.
And unknown to them... The two were not ordinary strangers to each other... But they were of the same blood.
And there... Fate began to draw them closer—through pain, contempt, and the truth that remained hidden.
Following the incident in the city, life went on as usual... but deep inside, Mathias felt a lingering restlessness. Whenever he was alone, he remembered the face of the wealthy young man who had tossed money at him with such contempt. There was something in his eyes that seemed strangely familiar—something that stirred his soul in a way he could not explain.
One night, while sleeping in his small rented room, Mathias was jolted awake by a bizarre dream. He dreamt he was a small child, carried by a woman who was crying bitterly. Beside him was another child who looked exactly like him. Before he could see their faces clearly, the dream vanished. Mathias woke up panting, sweat soaking his forehead. “Why do I keep having these dreams?” he wondered.
The next morning, he decided to visit Green Martha in the village. Martha was overjoyed to see him, but she was not her usual self. She seemed deep in thought, her eyes carrying a heavy sadness that had been hidden for years.
“Mama Martha... is something wrong?” Mathias asked gently. Martha gazed at him with eyes brimming with tears. She whispered, “If one day I depart from this world... there is a truth you must know.” Mathias was startled, but before she could explain, she was overcome by a fit of coughing. From that day on, Mathias worked harder than ever to support her, taking on every job he could find in the city—shoe polishing, carrying luggage, and cleaning—to ensure Martha lacked nothing.
Meanwhile, in Deo’s mansion, life was the polar opposite. Matheo was accustomed to extreme luxury; he had never performed a single chore. He was pampered by house staff and spent his days in arrogance. One day, Rovi found him playing games while the living room remained untidy. “Matheo, can’t you help with even the smallest task?” Rovi asked softly. Matheo laughed with disdain. “That is what the servants are for.” Rovi was hurt, the sharp divide between wealth and reality becoming painfully clear. Her heart constantly reminded her of the other child she had lost years ago.
Days later, while Mathias was walking through the city market, he accidentally collided with Rovi, who was carrying a basket of fruit. Oranges scattered everywhere. “I’m so sorry!” Mathias exclaimed as he bent down to collect them. “Forgive me, my son, I wasn’t looking,” Rovi replied softly. As their hands brushed while picking up the fruit, they both felt an unexplainable jolt. They froze, locking eyes. In that moment, a strange, ancient familiarity passed between them—a silent recognition they couldn’t name.
A few days later, Deo announced they needed a new gardener. Hearing this, Mathias applied for the job. Standing before the massive gates of the mansion, his heart raced uncontrollably. As the guard led him in, Rovi stepped out to inspect the new worker. Upon seeing Mathias, she froze. She recognized him instantly as the young man from the market. A silent, heavy tension filled the air. When Rovi asked if they had met, Mathias confirmed they had. Rovi smiled sadly, and after a brief conversation, hired him.
Mathias worked with unparalleled diligence, his presence bringing an unexplainable peace to Rovi’s heart. However, the true storm arrived that evening. As Deo and Matheo returned home in their luxury car, Mathias rushed to open the gate. The headlights shone directly on his face. Deo and Matheo stared in shock.
Matheo stepped out, furious. “What are you doing here?” he barked. Before Mathias could answer, Rovi stepped out. “I hired him,” she announced with quiet authority. “He works for me, and no one is to disturb him.” Matheo was stunned; he had never seen his mother defend a worker so fiercely.
But as Matheo stood face-to-face with Mathias, the resemblance was undeniable. Their eyes, their features, the way they stood—it was as if they were born of the same womb. Rovi and Deo stared at them, paralyzed by the sight. That night, in their bedroom, Deo turned to Rovi with a heavy question: “Rovi... why do Matheo and that boy look so much alike?” Rovi’s heart raced. The secret she had buried for years was finally beginning to surface before Deo’s very eyes.
