Chapter 1
Author's note : I wrote these all myself. The Characters were made by me, and mostly, this story is inspired by the anime Bleach, MHA, and JJk.
All the human beings in this world have their own magic and abilities... Except for Katsuya.
"Katsuya, if you don't wake up right now, I'll be sure to smack your face with this smoking hot pan!"
Yells Katsuya's older sister.
Katsuya opened his eyes and stretched lazily.
"Coming..."
He said, before getting up and doing his morning routine.
Katsuya walked downstairs and sat at the kitchen table.
"What's for breakfast?"
He asked.
Katsuya's older sister — Karin — glared at him and said,
"I'll knock you out right now, Katsuya. You haven't even done anything more than getting up! Clean the living room!"
Katsuya sighed in frustration and stood up from the chair before going to the living room.
He grabbed a used cloth and a mop before he started to clean.
While he cleaned the living room, his mind wandered. "My older sister Karin has her own magic and ability. Our father and mother who passed had it too. Everyone in this world has magic and abilities. But... Why do I have none...?"
Katsuya finished cleaning and walked back to the kitchen.
"Hey, can I eat now?"
Karin heard him and asked,
"Have you done cleaning the living room? The furniture? The mirror? The fan? The—"
"Yes! Now can I eat?"
Katsuya interrupted.
Karin smiled and put a plate of pancakes and a big glass of mango juice in front of him.
"Good job. Now eat before you go to your first day of school."
Karin said.
Katsuya nodded and started eating, still lost in thought.
After eating, Katsuya grabbed his clothes and a towel to take a bath.
Karin stopped for a moment from washing the dishes and looked up at the ceiling.
"Mother... Father... Why doesn't Katsuya have magic...?"
Karin said silently, sighing deeply before washing the dishes again.
Katsuya finished bathing and got ready for school.
He grabbed his bag and rushed out of the house.
"I'm going now, big sis!"
Karin nodded.
"Take care."
Karin said, as Katsuya left the house.
Katsuya arrived at his new school and entered the classroom he was assigned to. He sat at the back and some of the students were looking at him.
The classroom door opened and their professor walked in with a pen in his hand.
"Good morning, class."
Everyone stood up and greeted the professor.
The professor nodded and told them to sit down before introducing himself.
"My name is Professor Matthew, but I prefer to be called Professor Matt."
He turned to the board and started writing lines, circles, and anything unreadable. He turned back to them and just snapped his fingers, making the unreadable message on the board readable.
All of the students, including Katsuya, were stunned and surprised as Professor Matthew just showed his ability to them.
"Now..."
The professor continued,
"I want you all to introduce yourselves here in front of the whole class, so we can get to know each other."
One by one, they introduced themselves — their names, magic, abilities, and their talents.
When it was Katsuya's turn, Katsuya shivered slightly because he didn't know what to say.
Katsuya stood in front of the whole class and started by saying his name.
"Hello, everyone, my name is Katsuya Kurayami, and..."
He looked down, not knowing what to say, since he doesn't have any magic or abilities.
Professor Matthew knew what was happening and just told him to sit down.
"You can sit down now, Katsuya."
Katsuya went back to sit at the back.
Professor Matthew started the lecture about magic and abilities.
Katsuya listened intently as Professor Matthew discussed how magic and abilities are passed down through genetics, and how it's almost impossible in this world to have no magic or abilities.
After class, almost everyone quickly left the classroom, each one of them flexing their own magics and abilities, except for Katsuya and Professor Matthew.
As Katsuya was preparing and fixing his things to leave, Professor Matthew walked towards him.
"Katsuya, right?"
Professor Matthew spoke.
Katsuya looked at him and nodded.
"Yes? What's it, Professor?"
Professor Matthew used his scanning magic before saying,
"I don't see any magic or ability in you... What are you exactly, Katsuya?"
Professor Matthew asked with a serious voice.
Katsuya swallowed dryly and trembled under his question.
Katsuya took a deep breath before saying,
"Even I... Don't know myself, Professor Matthew..."
Professor Matthew stepped back before saying,
"You know you can get expelled from this school if you don't have any magic or ability, right?"
Katsuya widened his eyes and said in a panic,
"B-but I paid full to get in this school! Why am I getting expelled just because I have no magic or any ability?"
Professor Matthew sighed.
"You know this is a Magic Academy... Yet you still paid full when you already know you aren't fit here."
He said before walking out of the classroom.
Katsuya was left in the classroom alone, stuck with every emotion surrounding his thoughts.
After a few moments of regret, Katsuya left the school and took a walk around the school park.
He sat under a nearby tree, looking up at the bright stars, thinking he will never have his own magic or just any ability.
Out of nowhere, an old man approached him from his side.
Katsuya heard the footsteps and looked from his left side, only to see an old man smiling.
"Hey there, young one. Can we talk for a bit?"
The old man said.
Katsuya doubted for a moment before nodding and scooting aside to make space for the old man.
The old man sat beside him and looked up at the stars.
"Isn't it cool?"
The old man spoke.
Katsuya looked at the old man and said,
"Cool? I mean... Yeah, the breeze is cool."
The old man laughed and said,
"Oh how I miss being young..."
Katsuya stared at the old man and said,
"What do you mean by the 'cool' part?"
The old man sighed and looked at Katsuya.
"Isn't it cool that I found someone like me?"
Katsuya's eyes widened and he listened to him.
"Born without any magic or ability..."
Katsuya looked away, not believing him.
The old man stood up and said,
"Let's make a deal."
Katsuya looked up at the old man.
"What deal?"
Katsuya asked.
The old man smirked and said,
"I will be your power, and in exchange... You will become stronger."
Katsuya stared at the old man for a while before laughing.
The old man's smirk didn't falter. Instead, he added,
"It won't hurt if you try. Since you don't have any magic or ability."
Katsuya's laugh slowed down a bit and he looked at the old man.
"Thanks for making me laugh, old man. I haven't laughed after so long. But, alright. I'll agree."
The old man grinned widely and said,
"Stand up... I will get inside you, and I will be your power."
Katsuya got slightly scared and serious for a moment before standing up, looking at the old man closely.
The old man grabbed both of Katsuya's hands tightly and said,
"Close your eyes."
Katsuya closed his eyes, and suddenly, he felt something flowing within him, like energy and an immense aura.
Katsuya breathed heavily before opening his eyes.
He found himself on his bed, in his own house, breathing heavily, sweat all over his body. He realized it was just a dream, a dream from overthinking too much about magic and ability.
Katsuya sighed and grabbed a towel to wipe himself.
But... Was that really just a dream...?
Katsuya walked downstairs and found Karin cooking breakfast.
Karin looked at Katsuya and greeted him before adding,
"Good morning, Katsuya. What happened last night? You looked dead last night."
Katsuya looked at Karin with a confused face.
"Dead? What do you mean?"
He asked.
Karin turned the stove off and set the food on the table before saying,
"Well, forget that. Just be lucky that a random old man said that he found you unconscious near the park and walked you here. Luckily, you weren't hurt, but you were exhausted. I don't know what happened, but that's what the old man said."
Katsuya's eyes widened as he realized...
It wasn't a dream...
He really experienced and felt what happened to him...
