Dear Dairy

Lately, I’ve been sinking deeper into my thoughts, replaying every moment, every conversation, every small reassurance he ever gave me. I don’t know why my heart keeps going back to those memories, but maybe it’s because those moments shaped me. Maybe it’s because those memories taught me what love can feel like — not perfect, not easy, but sincere, soft, patient, and deeply meaningful.

I once told him that I need to change myself so that he won’t lose feelings for me. I remember how heavy those words felt when I said them, because they came from fear — the fear of not being enough, the fear of losing someone I loved, the fear of him waking up one day and deciding I wasn’t worth the effort. I told him that because in my heart, I wanted to protect what we had. I thought changing myself would keep him close to me.

But he told me to stay how I am and to be myself instead of changing a bit. Those words still echo in my chest. He didn’t want me to change anything, not even a little. He told me that he wouldn’t lose feelings for me or lose interest in our relationship. He said it so sincerely that I believed him. And that’s how I knew I love this man so much to the point where any other guys feel invisible to me. It was in that moment that my heart attached itself to him in a way I couldn’t explain. He saw me — the real me — and told me I was enough.

Then came the day he decided to end our relationship. That day changed so much for me, but at the same time, it didn’t destroy the love I felt; it only made me understand him more. Even on that day, I knew he didn’t stop loving me. It didn’t feel like a breakup because of lack of love; it felt like a moment where he was overwhelmed, unsure, conflicted, and confused about how long-distance relationships really work. I could sense the exhaustion in his words, but not a lack of love. Because if he never loved me and were to play with my feelings, he would never say those words to me. He wouldn’t have been gentle. He wouldn’t have cared how I felt. He wouldn’t have protected my heart as much as he did, right until the last moment.

And because of the way he loves me, I’m learning to be calm. This change didn’t happen overnight. It came slowly, through every conversation where he softened my anger, every moment he showed me patience I didn’t know how to give myself. I have anger issues, but that doesn’t change my love for him. He can control my anger, but I’m willing to be patient and calm so that I won’t let him apologize a lot in the future just because of my anger issues. I don’t want to hurt him. I don’t want my emotions to make him feel responsible for pain that isn’t his fault. I’m learning how to be calm, patient, and a woman of God. Someone who understands without getting angry. Someone who puts my ego aside, because I want to understand him and listen to all his problems.

And that’s when these words come to me like a prayer:

“I wanna be his calm in the stormy days. I wanna be someone he feels safe with. I wanna be someone he’s excited to talk to and someone he knows he’s safe and won’t be judged even for a single mistake. I wanna be his peace. Someone he could come running to me when things get difficult. I wanna be his home.”

These words aren’t just pretty. They’re my truth. They’re everything I want to grow into. I want to be the place where he rests, the person he trusts, the person he turns to without fear. I want him to feel safe in my presence, even across distance, even when life is complicated. I want to be someone who heals, not someone who hurts.

He showed me that I’m not hard to love and that my anger isn’t hard to calm. This was something I never believed before. I always felt like my anger made me difficult. But he showed me that love can be beautiful even without being touched. He taught me that connection doesn’t always require physical closeness; sometimes it’s the emotional closeness that matters more. He showed me that love really is patience and kind. And that is why I’m willing to wait. I’m willing to wait not because I’m not able to move on, but because I finally found someone who showed me what exactly 1 Corinthians 13:4–8 means.

Those verses used to be just Bible lines to me. But then he came into my life, and suddenly they felt real. His love was patient. His love was kind. His love wasn’t proud or selfish. His love didn’t judge me. His love didn’t punish me. His love made me grow.

He became someone I can call home and feel peace with without even feeling the touch of his skin. That sentence is the closest thing to truth I have felt in a long time. Someone my heart knows is home just by looking at his eyes. Even through a screen, his eyes felt like comfort, safety, familiarity. Someone who makes me wanna grow with God. Because when someone brings you closer to God, you know their presence in your life is not an accident.

In all these moments, through all these feelings, through all these memories, one truth remains:

He’s my Psalm 139:14.

The reminder that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. The reminder that I don’t need to change myself to be loved. The reminder that God didn’t make a mistake when He created me. The reminder that someone out there saw me exactly as I am and said, “Don’t change.”

Sometimes I wonder about the timing. Sometimes I question why things ended when the love was still there. But no matter how long I think about it, one thing stays true: what he awakened in me — the calmness, the patience, the softness, the spiritual growth — will stay with me forever.

He taught me that love doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.

He taught me that love can exist even when distance tries to kill it.

He taught me that real love leaves you better than it found you.

And he did.

I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t know if God will bring him back into my life or if he was meant to be a chapter that changed my whole story. But whatever the purpose was, he made a mark on my heart that won’t fade.

And all of this — every word — is the most honest truth inside me.
