Prolog

I was that girl that kept germ-ex on her, so she didn’t get sick.

I was that girl that never went to parties, or to school events.

I HATED going out.

And why? Because the world was cruel. I learned that when my mom died.

She passes away about 4 1/2 months ago. I was spending the weekend at my dad’s house. Everything went fine until my “Only in an emergency” cell rang. It never rang. When I picked up, there was an older woman on the other end.

“Hello, Is this Micheal?” she asked.

“No ma’am this is his daughter. I can relay a message through.” I answered.

“I really must speak to your father.” her voice had a sad note to it. I called my dad and handed him the phone. I couldn’t hear what the woman said, just that when she said something, his face got serious. Shortly after hanging up, and returning the phone, he told me to get my jacket. I did, and we got in the car. We rode 25 minutes to the hospital. That’s how I knew it was my mom. That something bad had happened.

I walked behind my father into the hospital. I liked the hospital. Something about everything being all clean soothed my tangled nerves. My dad stopped at the Helpdesk, and I wondered over to the Murial that was painted on the wall. It was the sky, split in half. One side was daytime, the other night time. My dad walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. After a few minutes, we set off to find her room. As we were walking down the hall, a doctor came out of the room where my mom was. He stopped us. “Are you Micheal Shander?” he asked. “I am.” my dad replied. “I’m sorry to inform you, but your wife died just a few moments ago.” his face was serious.

My entire world froze.

I’m sorry to inform you, but your wife died just a few moments ago.

It kept repeating in my head. Then as I stood next to my father, My vision started to blur, and the edges went black. My hearing turned muffled. As the darkness covered my entire field of vision, my legs gave way. The last thing I head was my dad saying my name, and the doctor calling for a nurse.

I woke up in a wheelchair, being pushed down the hall really fast. We turned into a room, and I saw my dad beside me. “thank god, she’s awake!!” he said, and I came to an abrupt stop. The doctor asked me a few questions and held me overnight. I was allowed to go home the next day.

The week flew by, as I helped my dad with the preparations of my mothers funeral. He let me help since I am 17.

I stayed home from school the whole week. The day after the funeral, I went back to school. I didn’t dance in the hallway. I didn’t laugh. It was like I was outside my body.

None of my friends tried to cheer me up. I withdrew into myself, and no one cared. I cried every day when I went to sleep. I stopped talking to my friends. I stopped going out of the house. I just sat in my window seat and watched the Seasons change. Soon my straight A grades started to slip, and I really didn’t care.
