Chapter 1
George and Mimi’s First Meeting
Mimi was just after starting her new job in the local office where she lived, it was the job she had wanted for a long time and now she was finally getting her dream. It was 2 weeks when she finally started getting the hang off her everyday duties. At the end of one very long day Mimi was walking home after a late staff meeting when a strong gust of wind knocked her out of her standing. She managed to gain some footing again when another gust of wind swept her up and sent her flying towards the bridge. All she could think was this is it and as she closed her eyes waiting for impact she felt someone grip her around the hips and she was then placed the far side of the canal out of harm’s way. When she opened her eyes the wind was no longer blowing and she was alone. Unsure of how to explain what had just happened she just shook her head in disbelief then continued on her journey home and put it all down to being tired.
As she walked up and around the endless twists and turns she had no idea that she was being carefully watched and studied. A tall figure stood behind a telephone pole just beside the canal watching her walk then disappears around the last corner. “Is it her” the now visible tiny firefly asked. The Figure shook his head and sent them off to stay by her side till he returned. With that the tall figure disappeared.
All would be revealed in time but for now Mimi was walking in her door to a very warm welcome from her beloved niece. Bedtime cuddles and off to bed she went. Sitting down with her sister Ruth discussing what she thought had happened on the way home made her feel mad. “Your tired sweetheart, just go have a nice soak and have an early night” Mimi knew Ruth was right so off she went and drifted off. While she slept things were, put in motion for the next day would put her life threw more challenges than anyone could have expected.
Her alarm started singing the next morning lifting Mimi dramatically out of her sleep making her rush around so much that she fell over cracking her head on the cupboard. Now she was going to be even later. Grabbing a slice of toast as she ran out of the house she stumped her toe on the gate, holding in the curses she walked as quickly as she could to work. Her boss was just opening up when she looked at her watch and realised she was actually early. Holding her head and sighing she realized what had happened, she walked in to the office holding her head the entire time. Today was going to be a long one and as she popped on the kettle her head began to thump more and more. “It will pass “she whispered to herself and went back to her desk.
As she was walking to her desk her head hurt a little more and she missing the step, as she started falling someone grabbed her around the waist and levelled her once more. Afraid to look up from pure embarrassment of it maybe being her boss Mimi thanked the feet and began to walk away. It wasn’t until she heard the voice did she look up. “Is that how you greet everyone young lady” Mimi looked up to the face of a very handsome tall man and without realizing it continued to stare into his eyes. He smiled politely and held out his hand. “I’m George and I wish to talk to Mimi about some private matters” his smile turned to a serious grin and the spell on Mimi broke and her head thumped more. Sitting down at her desk she motioned to him to take a seat. Pulling out her pad and pen she responded with I am Mimi how can I help you today! George looked at Mimi and couldn’t believe this was the person he was here to see, she didn’t look like the person he had seen last night she looked weak and frail. N
Mimi could sense his eyes on her and looked at him with a cool head and motioned once again for him to sit down. Never taking his eyes of her he took his seat and proceeded to explain himself. As he began to speak Mimi’s head began to thump worse than before so she focused on the man in front of her and couldn’t help but study his mannerism, he acted as if he had known her before, and he seemed like an all business type of person. As the thumping seemed to ease she realised he had stopped talking. “Have you heard a single thing I have said to you” George was now in a full on commanding mood “we have personal matters to discuss. “I’m sorry Sir but a personal matter would only be of concern if I knew who you are and because I have not had the pleasure of meeting you before I do not see how you can have personal matters to discuss with me?” with that Mimi put down her pen and focused once again on the man in front of her. George did not like being studied by anyone it was always his job to study people. “Mimi do you mind not staring at me I am trying to talk to you”
Mimi broke eye contact and stood up and in a clear confident voice said “We have nothing to talk about and I would like you to leave now! I have a full work load today and I do not have time to talk to strangers on personal affairs” With that she sat down and looked at her work load. George had never felt so angry his entire life, “doesn’t she know who I am, shouldn’t she at least know that something is different” George was furious and before he could regain his power Mimi had already closed of the conversation and asked him to leave. He wanted to make her see sense, he wanted her to realise that he was there to protect her, he wasn’t a stranger but it had been so long since he had seen her. Something told him to walk away and come back. “I’m sorry Mimi I was just trying to help” and with that walked away.
As George was walking out he bumped into Mimi’s boss who instantly recognized him. “Mr Hamilton!” gasped her boss “what have we done to deserve such a special visit today? He motioned George into his office and closed the door behind them. Once they were sure that the office door was closed tightly they switch to serious mode, “Now George tell me what you’re really doing here?” George took the seat next to the desk and began to explain the reason for his visit.
A while back the king and Queen were killed in a battle with the evil enchantress, leaving the land open to her disease; slowly the land began to die off leaving nothing for the people and animals to eat. Her power seemed to grow more and more with each part of the land she infected. Her reign would of continued only for one section of the land that somehow was protected. She couldn’t touch it, when he went to investigate he realised it was an old castle that still had people tending to the castle, waiting for The princess Mimi’s return a princess he thought dead as she had disappeared many years ago with King Sean and Queen Emily but as the servants and helpers elves said they fled the land in hope of protecting her and something was about to happen to bring the family back. That’s when I used our seers to help me find her and I tracked them all the way to here. They continued the conversation for a long time until George was happy enough with the information given.
Two hours later Mimi was called upon to make coffee and to come into the office. She knew she was going to be in trouble but she kept her smile on her face and her thumping headache in check. Stepping into the office the chatter stopped and eyes were on her. “If that’s all sir I will take my lunch break” she politely said and tried to quickly leave the office. Actually Mimi come in and close the door Mr Hamilton and myself would like to have a word with you. As she turned to close the door she became dizzy her headache grew more and more intense and as she reached the door knob her feet gave out and she slumped to the floor. Without hesitation George had sensed it and had shot forward as quickly as he could and was now holding her head.
George had no idea what was happening and before he could utter a word Mimi’s boss shredded his human clothes revealing himself as a wizard of the fairies. “George Mimi has no memory of her life before 21, she was involved in an incident 5 years ago when her parents were killed’ she has no memory of you and no memory of her life in the magical realms. George didn’t know what to say but it made complete sense. ‘ I must take her with me now she will be killed if she is left unprotected’ George lifted Mimi up as if she was no heavier than a feather and carried her out to where he had his armed guards and a cloaked carriage. As he lay her down he turned to wish his friend good luck when he grabbed his arm, ’What about Ruth and the child? George who now had stepped away from Mimi confused by the question, I will send my guards to bring them to the castle where I will look after them with that he hopped into the carriage and took off towards an old church were a portal opened and disappeared as soon as they were inside.
Once they had arrived at the castle George ordered his guards to go back to Mimi’s house straight away and bring Ruth and the child back with them. George wouldn’t let anyone help him in bringing Mimi to the main suite and as he climbed the stairs he asked his servants to get the royal physician. It wasn’t until he had place her onto the bed did he realise that she no longer looked the same as she did when they left her realm. Her once business suit was now a long sleek grey dress her hair was now fiery red but her complexion was deathly white. He knew that something more was happening when Mimi started wrenching in her sleep showing pure pain on her face.
