Ghouls, Ghosts, Haunted Houses
"I don't normally read horror, but I found this story and it sucked me in. I wanted to know who lived and who died, how they died, if they were ever going to get out of the house. It definitely had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't stop reading. Although you can't really get attached to any of the characters, because you never know who is going to end up a victim next. Nobody is really safe. Usually there are a couple of characters who have "main character status" and that you can predict they are the ones who aren't going to die. But in this story, even though Victoria is the main voice, she could easily be the next victim. The suspense is great. So great that I wanted to read as fast as possible to find out what happened. And then...the ending. It was a little disappointing. I was a bit confused, though, and there's still some things left unanswered. I hope to read book two at some point to bring some conclusion to everything. Also, there were points when the point of view randomly skipped between characters, which could get a little confusing, but even so it was pretty easy to figure out who was speaking. I do kind of wish that they had spent more time trying to figure out how to get out of there and break the hold that the spirit had on them (is there a spell? a chant? maybe do an exorcism? a sacrifice?) rather than just sort of accepting their fate. All in all, great job. You took a plot that has been done (teenagers spend the night in a haunted house) and still made it suspenseful. I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to book 2."

Good story overall but I didn't like the ending...
"I loved the story it was very good! I loved the plot of the story! It was a very addictive story that wouldn't let me stop reading! I did not like the ending thought....Don't get me wrong awesome story! I just feel like the characters suffered to much and deserved to be freed. I think it would have been better if the had actually escaped rather than just being trapped with more people.....Overall awesome story dude!"
A Gripping Read
"I really enjoyed this. Whilst in my opinion, I didn't find the ending satisfying, the journey to it was an amazing and gripping one. I began it at 1am and could not stop reading. I loved the "Until Dawn" vibes I got from it, especially with the character perspective changing throughout the story, allowing us, the reader, to get to know the current survivors as well as the characters do. I really recommend "Survive the Night," especially as a first read on Inkitt. I will definitely be looking into more of Benjamin Card's work."

"I found this story mostly by accident. I was testing the waters for Inkitt, seeing if it was a platform I would like to try and utilize as an author myself, and came across this story. The initial premise intrigued me, even with it being a bit 'overdone.' Group of teenagers all spend the night in a haunted house. One by one they drop like flies until...a cliffhanger. While I didn't see that coming, it was a bit of a gut punch; what can really be said in this kind of story that would take multiple volumes? It also made the climax of the book, where the most resolution or distress should occur, feel flat, uninteresting, and ultimately a whimper more than a bang. The author also had a tendency to jump from person to person, their thoughts on what was happening, so that it would be slightly confusing at times when one moment we're inside Victoria's head, then we're in Kevin's. There was also a tendency to use words and phrases that didn't seem to fit...I can't really think of any teenage girl who would use the word psalmist, nor anyone who calls liquor smut. It felt like there was a bit too much going on with the story, but I would also say that was part of its strength as well. Ghouls rising from the ground, Possession. Insanity. Starvation. Cannibalism. Ghosts...it seemed slightly like it was a story that ran off the rails, but at the same time, it didn't feel -too- disjointed. So I'll commend the author on that. TLDR: Decent story, good read, few plot holes, and some glaring issues that can be overlooked if a real fan of the genre and books of this type. It ends on a major cliffhanger, so be warned."
