True Inspiration
"A shining example of motivational courage, Headlock by Greg McLaughlin was a treat to read. The author was seeking balance in his professional life, his family life, and his personal life, as well as the need for athletic recognition, all of which he was able to achieve with dedication and will power. This is a glowing and powerful piece that traces his development as an athlete and as an individual. Both wrestlers and readers alike will enjoy this journey of self-motivation and perseverance. I highly recommend it."
Spirit Fuel.
"This book is a great look at the journey of a person determined to do great things. Yes, wrestling is involved, but it is SO much more than that. An honest look at the ups and downs of relationships and the struggle of making time for others while making time for yourself. Not since Andre Agassi's book Open, has such a spellbinding work on the slings and arrows of highest level sports been mixed with honest story telling of the behind the scenes struggles: the weight, the diet, the pain, the family, the job, the goals and the disappointments, all the good, bad, and ugly. This book is for anyone looking to be inspired or looking for answers. Discover how discipline, rather than being a prison, brings freedom. Scheduling, organizing, setting goals, following plans, there is so much wisdom and experience one can absorb by taking this journey with the writer. He once said this was a niche book about wrestling, NO. This is a HUMAN's journey relatable to anyone alive and can and should be as well known as the aforementioned Open by Agassi. Please read this book, even if you don't need a push or a plan. Read this book and find yourself better in the physical, better in the spiritual, and birth a new longing to work to reach your biggest dreams."
Headlock
"What stood out most for me in this story is the honesty and discipline that the author had to see through to achieve his aim. He clearly is an inspiration to anyone seeking to make dreams happen in their life. Gregory has delivered the last punch wisely. He has given anyone who reads this story, his ideas towards living a fulfilled life and pushes them to reach for the stars. Ultimately it is his willpower and strength that shines through. Definitely one of the most inspiring stories I have ever read."
A Truly Inspirational Real Life Quest!
"This is a remarkable true life story of a middle aged man who comes to a cross-road in his life, and has an epiphany of sorts after self examination. He sets for himself an seemingly unattainable and improbable goal to seek and become a National Wrestling Champion at the USA Master Nationals in the Veterans Division. Firstly, this is an awesome and inspiring true to life account of Greg McLaughlin's journey to return to a dream he had much earlier in his life, and make it a reality. While being a success in his professional and personal life, he is refreshingly straightforward and honest about the thoughts in his heart and his mind, not ashamed to reveal his shortcomings and his fears. The scenes are written skillfully and truthfully, and are not convoluted with artificial exaggerations to trigger the reader's emotional response. There is simply no need, because the weight and power of the story's truth elevates it to a realm beyond that aspect. It is easy for the reader to visualize and identify with several aspects of Greg while on his quest. I related to many life lessons within the story, as I believe other readers will. Among these are the subjects of Introspection, Self Doubt, Overcoming Fear, Honesty, Perserverance, Goal Focus, Personal Potential and Resilience to name a few. This is a very good true story that teaches and reaffirms important life lessons and a positive outlook on a person's future goal oriented decisions."
So Inspired!
"I love the many motivational and inspirational messages that this story sends out. I think many people will relate to this, whether or not they are athletes or wrestlers, merely by the resonance of the many philosophies that the author exudes throughout this wonderful piece of writing about the importance of strength, determination and perseverance in our daily lives. it definitely has me inspired to work harder and aim for better in many different aspects of my life. Thought provoking!"
A WORK OF ACT!!!
"Greg is such a wonderful writer, it's a pleasure to read his work. Honestly is there are more stars to award this work, I'd give. You're my mentor, pro."
Lessons Learned!
"This non-fiction account of the author's journey will definitely appeal to wrestlers of all sorts. However, it may also appeal to people endeavoring to do something big--whether that's in a sport or in another area of life. There are some great lerssons here regarding commitment, sticking to a plan, and the importance of learning from failure. There is a point in the book where everything seems stacked against the author. At this point, I found myself rooting most for his relationships with his wife and children. Because, even with his headlock commitment to goals, our relationships are the most important thing. I was glad to see he managed to balance both in the end. My only suggestion would be to focus a little more on that in the end. I found his description of his time with his father at nationals touching, and thought to myself that was his biggest win. This is a great read, and I plan to share with my wrestling friends. Nicely done."
