Chapter 1- Introduction

There used to be six of us… now I’m alone. They were like family, they were all I had. No family, no friends. I’m a little hot-headed… they were the only ones that could tolerate my temper. Everyone hates me… I’m sure no one would have cared if I were the one that died. They’re all gone… Lisa, David, Sebastian, Jennifer, and… Jane… I loved her more than anything. I just… I wish I could’ve saved her…

I was 16 when they died, now I’m 20. I don’t get out much and I don’t really have any close friends. My old friend Travis comes over from time to time, but… it’s not really the same. I haven’t started dating again either. I just can’t stop thinking about Jane… about what would’ve happened if she didn’t die. I just keep myself locked in my apartment, I only ever leave to go to work, school, and buy food. I guess I should probably get out more, but I can’t help it. All five of my friends died and there was nothing I could do about it. I just wanna know why I’m still here, why me? It doesn’t feel like I should be here…

They all died on different days, in different places, and in different ways. The time apart from each of their deaths was only one week… the last one was Jane. After she died everyone thought I was next, but then a week went by and I was fine. I was so distraught that for a while I actually wanted to die. Days passed, days turning into weeks, weeks turning into months, and months eventually turning to years. That’s when the rumors and accusations started popping up.

Jane, David, and Sebastian were murdered. Jennifer’s death was an ‘accident’ and Lisa committed suicide. I know they were all murdered, it just doesn’t make sense. I don’t know who did it or what… It seemed almost supernatural, which isn’t strange. Then people started to believe that I killed them and covered it up. So now the police were investigating all five deaths instead of just the three.

I told them for months that something wasn’t right and they just brushed it off, but as soon as someone accused me they got right on it. They arrested me after they collected their ‘evidence’ and then my trial came. I was convicted on five counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. A little part of me wanted to die… I just wanted to be put out of my misery. Most people stay on death row for years, but I was accused of killing two members of the Flame Kingdom’s royal family, so my execution was scheduled just a week after my conviction.

Luckily, right before I was going to be executed they realized I was falsely convicted. Of course, I was relieved, but also a little disappointed. I knew no one would miss me. I had nothing and no one, but Janet still thought of me as her son. She offered to help… It just didn’t feel right, but she wouldn’t take no for an answer. She’s like the mother I never had… I wish I could’ve met my actual mother… I just need to find out who killed my friends. It just doesn’t make any sense.

Since I never go out I decided to go visit Janet. After David and Sebastian died she took Luna in and I’d come by and help take care of her and Jenna from time to time, but recently I’ve stopped. Maybe I should start doing that again. I do love kids… I remember Jane would always talk about how she wanted us to get married… and… god.
