Chapter 1

Times have never been easier for anyone really. Humanity by the looks of it is gone, there’s no sugarcoating it by the looks of anywhere. This invasion became a slow, suffering death to us. All that could be seen is the proof of death by the extra-terrestrial monsters.

Around the streets were clothes breezing through the wind, it would get caught on the dead powered vehicles or the random benches & chairs of the city. At night it would get creepy probably everywhere because the extra-terrestrial dictators decided to cut the power on everything.

The vehicles were great now to hide in, since they love to hunt for survivors. Other then that they are great obstacles to get in the way while trying to escape from the instant death fate mostly anyone is afraid to go near.

Upon one of the alleyway buildings was a dirty gloved hand. Since there’s no one around anymore, supplies like clothing for warmth or to help past the heat were always needed. No matter where anyone hides, nature finds a way to creep in like a spy.

A head covered in a clothed like hoodie to protect the hair or face from being seen. It was always great to come at sunset because the headlights of death or how the aliens locate any survivors could locate. In the morning through afternoon they would creep in like a breeze of wind and if they ever make eye contact they would be dead.

So the twilight in the sunset was a great time because the sun would be considered too bright for them to see whenever looking at the sky and the shadows will become a challenge to spot anyone.

The footsteps were walking around carefully, their hearing wasn’t sharp which was a bright side, but one of the down sides is anything bright and they could spot anyone. So the boots worn were removed of anything shinning like belt buckles or straps to not trip.

This figure lingering around was at least five and half feet tall, maybe a few inches taller because of the boots with the hidden elevated heel upon the back. Every part of skin was covered in clothing for mostly warmth, there’s no heat around to help match the cold in any fight.

It moved carefully upon the pavement searching through the cars. True all the things have already been stolen, but it never hurts to take a peek inside with the little time left until nightfall. Some of the windows have holes with little specs of dried up blood. People sometimes have to use force in desperate times, but in the end it’s never going to be worth it.

During the panic stage of the invaders coming across the earth, people were breaking into cars to grab whatever they could for survival methods. It was honestly predicted from any science alien invasion films, expect right after people would steal whatever they could grab they would be taken for death.

The figure clenched the gloves hand as the memories of those early invasion days went pass like a slow motion film. It just wasn’t fair, everything was going great at the peak.

Okay, not now, don’t start this again now. The figure moved over into one of the abandon stores to quietly swipe anything without stepping on glass, bones or any rubble left behind. Thankfully there was of course just enough left to live at least for another week, but in a matter of time there won’t be enough to go by forever. Eventually food, water, it’s all gonna run dry no matter how low the number of survivors.

Once there was enough food inside of the pockets and hands, the figure quickly moved quietly out of the store before being caught by anyone.

“Oh no.”

The voice sounded muffled and muttered with the layers of clothing over the mouth piece. But the sky was losing light from the sun once again. At least on the other side of the globe they’ll get some skylight time now. This side needed to rest for awhile more.

It’s footsteps moved quickly over the pavement. Under the clothed mask the individual couldn’t help but flinching at every waiting step upon the ground. One of these steps could be the last if one wrong action.

Just as the sun vanish for the night, the being quickly hid away back to the trenches where it came. The moment the entrance door was shut, relaxing, heavy breathes finally came out in relief. Another day still alive, somehow.

After a few more steps in the darken, underground location the figure removed the clothing mask and manage to get into the crowded living area.

The clothing mask was placed down upon an old, torn up leather couch. A sigh escape the being’s lips in a mix of relief and disappointment. Before relaxing down with the life time prize of the week, a sound of a lighting match echoed the isolated location.

It bounced over a few halfway melting candles with a simple flick since there’s no breeze to turn them off down here thankfully. Once it was down the features were more clear, to the general shade brown hair that just went a bit above the shoulders to the teal colored eyes. This lone survivor was a girl and she had the age appearance of at least in her late teens.

She moved over to relax onto the old couch near the wall. Her eyes drifted over to a few pictures that were tapped to the ruin wall. There was at least six old photos. One was a family picture, this was during a graduation trip to Paris. For some reason she didn’t look too much like her parents, besides the facial features a bit. It turned out the hair and eyes gene was just a rare, small percentage change, but her parents didn’t care about it.

The little girl wrapped in her arms in a somewhat side hug had the same dark blue eyes as the parents just about and the blonde hair just about match too. It made the current girl smile at the memory. On the bottom of the picture it had the four family member names, Kendry, Marcy, Alura and Bria. During the trip she promise to visit her family as much as possible, but after coming home from the holidays that reunion never happen. Heck probably no one got to see their love ones.

Another was the same girl picture a few years younger with another girl with black hair. They were doing the kiss face with the peace signs around them and the background looked like one of those background effect pictures from a photo booth.

Third was with her and a boy about her age, maybe looking a few years older. But he had his arm around her shoulders, with that same stupid spiky haircut he thought would make him look cooler and become more popular in school. There was another picture tapped next to it on the left side of the girl with black hair and spiky hair boy with a boardwalk behind them. Of course she was in the middle between them and what made that memory memorable was the other boy who had a bit colored highlights in his hair with gel smoothing it down terribly. After that photo bomb there was a little arguing, but it cleared up in the end. Friendship fights will always get cleared up some time, if never then it’s for the best.

Fifth one was of the little girl from the Paris trip, she had her arms wrapped tightly like her life depended on it and seemed teary eye. In the background it was in a empty out bedroom, moving day was one of the hardest to ever go through. Bria seemed to think so anyway.

Last and finally was the two perfect couple standing behind the brown haired girl. The features seemed so serious, not one smile was perking upon the lips, but they did want at least one serious and not everyone smiles in pictures at times too.

She had to stop looking at the pictures, it was making her eyes start getting teary & close to bloodshot red. The gloved hand came over her face to prevent it. Why did they have to choose the family time of the year? Would this race become so vulnerable in doing so?

“...I’m sorry mom, dad, Bria, Mara, Alex and Zach. I just wish we all could’ve known ahead. Maybe things would’ve work out better, if we just knew way beforehand...”

Alura’s voice was filled with dread, regret and sadness as the gloved hand was trying to help her somewhat relax. There’s gotta be a way to move on, every night was almost the same damn thing over and over.

She somehow got into a laying down position staring up at the low ceiling living area. Please let this get better, there’s no one to even talk to anymore. There has to be some hope out there, humanity can’t just crawl into a suffering death defeat. From all the books, TV shows, and movies humanity somehow prevails.

Alura heard her stomach growl loudly, if there was a megaphone near her stomach then the aliens would’ve probably killed her already. Well it’s time for another late dinner, at least there’s enough food for breakfast tomorrow.

She went over to a mini party table tray that was folded up in the corner of the room and opened it up. It doesn’t matter what dinner will be, whatever isn’t for tonight will be for tomorrow morning. Bottoms up.
