Chapter 1
You and I walked hand in hand, down the quiet street, on the way to our spot. A little tree nestled in the corner of a beautiful park. In my other hand, I carried a book. As we walked, we spoke about how our day went, and made little jokes here and there, causing me to giggle, and you to grin warmly.
Once we arrived at our destination, you sat down against the tree and I sat between your legs, resting my head on your chest. After a little bit of teasing, I relaxed and began reading you a book I had taken out from the school library, earlier in the week. It wasn’t an ordinary book, not to you at least. Without realizing, I had picked up a classic, one most people would know of; the catch? It was in French.
I began reading it aloud to you, and without complaints, you closed your eyes and you listened. Even though you didn’t understand, you still listened, and I really appreciated that. As I read, you caressed my thigh lightly with your thumb, drawing minicircles. Every time I paused to look up at you, you’d give me a light peck on the nose and smiled as I scrunched my nose and lightly giggled. Later, when I was getting tired of reading, I yawned softly. You gently took the book out of my hands and placed it on the grass beside us. You then intertwined our fingers in one hand and used the other to lightly stroke my hair. I immediately melted into your touch and felt myself growing more and more tired. We laid like this for a while and watched the sunset. I remember faintly hearing you whispering in my ear, “You’re so beautiful, love.” My face went bright red and you laughed, kissing my cheek, mumbling how cute you thought it was when I got flustered.
You then told me it was time to start heading back home before my parents got too worried or it got too dark outside. After minor protests, you picked me up bridal style and began carrying me towards the sidewalk. I playfully fussed in your arms, but you did nothing but hold me tighter.
You eventually got tired and set me down, immediately taking my hand in yours. We talked some more about almost everything, letting the conversation move naturally. Once we arrived at the end of my driveway, you took your one hand out of mine and wrapped both around my waist. I placed mine around your neck, nestling my face into your chest, and we stood there, for what seemed like hours.
Eventually, you removed your hand from my waist and lifted my chin with gently. You then closed your eyes and kissed me. It was so soft, yet also so loving and reassuring. After a quick hitch of my breath, I kissed back. At this moment I felt on top of the world like there was nothing and no one, but you and me. I felt so safe, with your strong grip around me and your lips, pressed against my own. You slowly pulled away and rested your forehead against my own and smiled. The sweetest and most genuine smile I had ever seen. I moved my head away from yours gently. All you did was look at me and said, “Wow.” You then took your hand away from my waist and waved goodbye in an awkward shy way, that just made me want to melt. I waved back, and simply watched, as you walked away.
I went inside, the smile on my face was brighter than I had ever thought I could make. I went upstairs to my room, and sat on my bed, in a daze. I smiled and giggled to myself, as I waited for a text from you saying that you got home safe. Once I heard my phone go off, I yipped with excitement as I answered. We spent the rest of the night talking as we normally do, and when it was time for bed, you called me, just so I could hear you say goodnight to me in your voice. I fell asleep with a smile on my face, and I will always remember this. As it was our first kiss, but it was also the day, I realized I had fallen in love with you.
