Max Murphy was on his 50th coffee order and just about ready to chew his new waitress out. The girl could barely count let alone remember to write the orders down the first time around. Luckily his regular customers didn’t seem to mind and were enjoying each other's company. When things seemed to settle a bit he pulled the young waitress to the side putting Rachel his long time barista in charge. Not too far from them but out of earshot of the customers Max takes a deep breath before figuring out what was the matter with the young girl.
Even after about two weeks of training Vivian couldn’t even remember to put the number of the table on the order. She wasn’t usually this terrible at working but her head was in the clouds. She felt bad for her boss. She could feel his eyes watching her and basically see him scrunching his brows together in frustration. Order after order she couldn’t seem to focus and it angered her how many times she had to mumble an apology. Her heart froze with fear as she was pulled to the side and Enrique, a coworker took over orders. Tears threatened to spill but if he fired her she would understand.
By the time he turned off his open sign he felt like banging his head against the wall. Sure Max had every right to fire the new girl but he didn’t have the heart. He tried to be fair and at least give the new workers a couple weeks but even after trying to find a solution to Vivians terrible waitressing. The young girl seemed to hold back tears and wouldn’t even give him a clue about what was wrong. Sadly he let it go and instead gave her pointers and tried to ignore her mistakes making her promise to try harder her next shift.
After locking up and making sure everything was clean and the money was secured in the safe he began his journey up the stairs to his loft. At the age of 24 Max felt older and the stubble on his chin seemed to agree as a few grey hairs began appearing early. Grunting as he headed to his shower to wash the grum of the day off and hopefully relieve his aching muscles. His head was pounding from annoyance but he knew he ran out earlier today so he would have to rely on sleep for comfort. After a nice shower Max attempted to get comfortable in his bed trying his best not to look at the empty spot next to him.
At the end of the day it always hit that he was alone. Even though he had his fair share of relationships he seemed to only to attract the crazies. Max liked to think of himself as a nice guy; he had a nice body and a great striving coffee business. He had the cafe and his sister helped run the coffee factory in Michigan with her husband. Heck he was even opening another shop in the next town over hoping to expand in a year or two again. Sadly his love life was little to nothing. He had lunch with a nice teacher a couple nights back but she wasn’t looking to settle more like ‘conquer’ him. Shuddering Max laid on his side looking at the empty spot next to him wondering how long it would take to catch a nice ladies eye for once. Slowly his eyelids got heavier and he released a yawn as he begins to drift off to sleep.
