Prologue
In the world of Genelore, many differing beings live together in such a way that is far from harmony. Their world and themselves being laced thickly with magic, the inhabitants are generally found to disregard scientific exploits and ideas, as, more often than not, magic can solve their wants and needs.
It is widely accepted that the planet receives its stability from a single pillar running through its center: the Birth Pillar. Legends speak of a powerful sorcerer from another world, traveling through space until a meteor struck him. Fascinated by the beauty of the rock, the sorcerer carved it into an intricate pillar, placing upon it a spell which would allow it to draw in other space rock and eventually create an ecosystem. Where the living things came from which now grace Genelore’s surface, seas, skies, and underground, no one knows. Many beings believe that if the sorcerer were to return to Genelore, all would be revealed and an era of peace would ensue.
The Birth Pillar, however, was created with a flaw: an instability the sorcerer could not prevent, but could prepare for. Every two thousand years, the pillar would begin the crumble, thereby destroying life in the world surrounding it. Knowing this to be the case, the sorcerer cast another spell, that when the pillar began to crumble, two Chosen would be found, their destiny to restore the pillar to its wholesome state.
However, two thousand years often erases memories of such occurrences when histories aren’t properly recorded. More often than not the Chosen were forced to find their own way without the guidance of their ancestors.
And this is where we begin.
