"I have to admit that - as of late - I've been addicted to Scandinavian Noir books and watching all their TV adaptations I could get my hands on. As such, I cannot be objective (but who is?) This being said, I did enjoy reading this story tremendously! When not captured by the poetic yet honest and gutsy language, the reader will indulge in a crafty narrative about a frail and hunted mind. Capturing the trials and tribulations of a tormented soul - in the manner it was done in this short story - is beyond commendable. Keep writing, Maria!"

Very emotive & heart wrenching
"When I started reading this i had many thoughts on what could have happened for this your woman. The story was compact and full of all the emotions you would imagine one would go through given the content.(don't want any spoilers`) I really enjoyed it as i connected with the mother in a few different ways , The writer allowed me to put myself into the story. It was easy to read pauses for breath and emotive language was used to enhance the different moments where it was needed. It is important to change reading habits between books, and this is just the kind f short story i would choose in between larger book. Thank you for sharing this ."
So Sad
"This story is so sad but beautiful at the same time. I was practically on the edge of my seat the whole time. I did not expect the ending that happened and I felt myself being both happy and sat at the outcome. I really loved this story."
Poor little Claire
"Wow, that was sad, scary, and super-disturbing. The description of the psychiatrist with the bespoke fishing poles, the devious way the protagonist dodges around her own insanity, are really well done. And the scene at the end is heartbreaking even as her insanity justifies her actions to herself.. Very well done."
No Twist Required
"This is the best short piece of fiction I've seen so far from this writer. Everything is in place: voice, character, setting. The writing is crisp, yet atmospheric. The choice of a first-person dramatized narrator gives the reader the plot and the essentials of the central character with the utmost economy. There are clues sprinkled through the text - the shit-kicker boots, the narrator's occupation, the throwaway sexual liaison and the way the narrator describes it. Then there are the 'voices'. In a sense, the twist at the end of this particular tale has an inevitability about it that makes it a muted surprise, if it is a surprise at all. That's where the quality of the writing tells. With story-telling like this you don't need the twist."
Emotional thriller
"The trouble with Romance authors, is that they are so darn good at writing - and eliciting - emotions. So when my favourite short romance writer turned to writing a horror / thriller, I knew I'm in for a ride. Nor was I disappointed. Without giving away any spoilers, the story is told from the perspective of a woman going through a special day in her life. We are given just enough details, more leaking in slowly as the story progress, to be able to imagine the events. And here-in is the strength of Maria Nestorides' writing. Causing the reader to imagine the full world of the story, and by this cause him to feel those events, makes for a gripping read. A highly recommended short story, from an author to watch."
OMGWTF
"When I started reading I expected this story to be much less...well written. However, it gets better and better as it goes on and I enjoyed the ending. The beginning to me was a bit unclear because I was confused as to where the character was. I read the whole thing with a huge pit in my stomach and a looming feeling of absolute fucking dread and I think that was exactly what you were going for. In my view, the feeling you get from a story is the most important part and as long as a feeling is established, the other aspects of the story are almost insignificant. I am an unexperienced writer but a very experienced reader and I have little complaints in regard to this story. Good job."
The Voices in My Head
"An unbalanced young woman provides first-person narration and draws the reader into her fragile world toward a grim conclusion, The story is well-written, and the sentences flow like water. The narrator's flat voice helps sell the character's tenuous grip on reality. I'm not much of a fan of the present tense in fiction, but considering the ending, I think it does work here. I was a little confused about the location as I tried to reconcile truck stops, Albany (New York?) and the British/Canadian spelling. (Being American, I notice those variations.) Without the Albany reference, I could easily have gone with Canada, but I don't really know. What I would recommend is either answering the location question directly or, better yet, finding some way avoid it. Also I'd like to see some of those long paragraphs broken up to serve the grim nature of the story better. All in all, this story really works, and the writer should have a bright future."
