I stalk through the trees, enjoying the feeling of the sunlight on my pelt.
My ears prick as I hear a faint scuffling, and my eyes narrow in on a mouse, unaware of my presence.
Paws sliding across the grass, I crept closer to the prey, thankful for my ash- colored coat.
Well, part ash colored- I have markings all across my body, like swirling lines that wrapped around my upper forelegs, and back ankles. Then, of course, are the yellow triangles under my eyes and around the curving lines.
The mouse looked up as I neared it, now only a few feet away. It was about to run, but I launched forward, the world slowing down as I flashed across the land, slamming a paw down on the prey, killing it on impact.
Purring, I settle down to eat my catch, planning my day.
There was a town not far from here, and they would surely have the answers that I needed.
After I had finished the mouse, I got up, slinging my packs over my back, relieved to feel the Metas weight in one.
Metas where leaf - shaped pieces of silver, the currency here in North Fortune.
Shaking out my fur, I loped towards the direction of the town.

I slowed to a walk as I approached the town’s guards, both where Kitos; people who could shift into one certain animal form.
One stepped forward, a wolf. His fur was chocolate brown and had startling blue eyes.
“State your name, and your business being here.” He says, exposing his long teeth.
“April. And I am here for... provisions.” I pause, having to find a believable lie.
After a moment, he nods, and I pad past him into the town.
The town had multiple shops set up, most of which had Kitos in animal forms behind them.
I scan the town, quickly finding my target.
It was a black-haired grizzly, covered in scars. His name is Scargiver, which is a terrible name to me. However, he got that name because not one Kito has been able to kill him.
Many assassins ad tried, but, they had never sent me. People underestimate me and what I can do.
Walking calmly forward, I slipped into the space beside Scargiver and a python Kito.
“Meeting by the sun?” I said, it was a codeword for The Blackfurs, an organization that Scargiver was a part of.
The huge grizzly seemed surprised for a minute, but he covered up the emotion. “Of course. Meet again by the sun?”
I smiled on the inside. The ‘By the Sun’ spot was a high cliff edge that jutted out from the side of the narrow gorge that this town was nestled in.
With a swift nod, I turned, padding out of the town without a second glance, heading straight for the sun spot.

My tail flicked excitedly as I waited on top of the sun spot, adrenaline rushing through my veins.
As a top-notch assassin, I had faced my fair share of tough targets. Once, there was a lion, and even a crocodile.
I had killed both, but I had a scar from the lion underneath my fur.
A black shape comes into my view, and I stand politely.
“So, messenger, what is the message from General Talon?” Scargiver says, cutting straight to the business.
Of course, General Talon knew about this, in fact, he sent me after the bear, wanting him dead for the fact that Scargiver was rising in the political part of The Blackfurs.
“He says, that he whishes you good fortune on your journey through the afterlife.” I respond smoothly, saying the exact thing that General Talon had wanted me to say.
Scargiver paused, then laughed. “You think you can kill me? Little cat? You could barely harm a fox!”
I snickered, my claws sliding out as my yellow markings started to glow.
The bear shifted nervously, but then growled, launching at me with a huge paw.
Slipping to the side, I leaped, digging my claws into his shoulder. Scargiver growled, snapping his jaws in an attempt to bite me.
I held on tight, maneuvering my way across his side to claw around his eyes and ears.
Scargiver snarled, his jaws snapping shut around my tail. He ripped me off of his thick, black fur, slinging me into the dirt.
However, I recovered quickly, noticing how the afternoon sun bathed my ash-colored fur.
I laughed, and must’ve sounded like a maniac, but wasn’t like I cared. The sun send a joyful feeling through my body, and I closed my eyes, enjoying the feeling.
Scargiver gasped, and I opened my eyes.
The blood humming through my veins, I flexed my new wings, ash colored with yellow speckles and markings, and my tail sported some new swirls and triangles.
Then, there was my eyes, now, the pupils branched out on the sides, making a flame-looking shape.
The black bear would be fine seeing this form of mine, for he would be dead soon, carrying this secret to his grave.
I looked back at Scargiver, leaping forward.
My wings flashed, and I spun in the air, maneuvering my lithe body so that, with one flap of my wings, I was angled like a dart at the bears throat.
That was exactly what I did.
The grizzly collapsed, gurgling as blood gushed from a tear in his neck.
My paws made scarlet paw prints, and the hum of the sun faded, which meant my wings and some of my markings did too.
Footsteps sounded from behind me, and when I turned, I saw dozens of the townspeople staring at the now dead body of Scargiver, and the small, ash-colored she cat with strange yellow-colored markings.
I purred, padding away, my tail flicking as I went in the direction of the forest, slipping into the trees as the startled peo]le crowded around the body.
