Meet The Immortal!

I wake up to the sound of music and the smell of breakfast as I quickly check my phone to see a text by my friend, Nate saying, “Hey! hurry up and get over here we found this cave and we wanna explore it with you”, this better be good, I quickly get up and get dressed while texting back Nate “Alright I’ll be there but who are you with?".

I walk to my family’s kitchen while putting on my long sleeved shirt and carrying my sneakers and socks “where are you going Mike?” My sister, Sophie asks, “I’m going to hangout with my friends.” I continue, “Can you let mom know when she comes back?” I ask, Sophie passes me a plate with scrambled eggs and bacon “oh yeah of course, makes sure you’re being safe!” she says. I nod and say, “mhm” while quickly eating my food. When I finish eating I quickly finish getting dressed, grab my headphones, and check my phone to see a reply from Nate, “It’s just me and Chloe”, at least Chloe will be there, “alright I’ll be there soon!” I reply.

I arrive at Washington Park and quickly run to the nearby forest to see Nate and Chloe waiting for me. “Sup” Chloe says, “hey how are you guys?” I ask, “we’re alright” Nate says, “come on let’s go, y’all gotta see this its really cool!” Chloe sighs and says, "it better be!”.

A couple hours and complaining later we arrive, Nate takes out a flashlight from his pocket and smacks it a bit “can this damn thing work” Nate whispers, Chloe chuckles and Nate looks up at her “something funny?” he asks, she chuckles a little bit more and says, “oh it’s nothing” Nate sighs and goes back to hitting the flashlight a bit. I chuckle a bit at the whole interaction and Chloe smiles at me. The flashlight flickers and then it stays on Nate speed walks in and says “hurry up will ya!” “Sheesh alright alright we’re comin’” Chloe says, I walk in the cave and follow Nate. After some walking Nate says “here we are!” and points his flashlight at the cave wall, me and Chloe look at the wall in anticipation, and we see! Cave drawings.

“Seriously what the fuck” Chloe yells, “you brought us all the way out here for some damn cave drawings” Chloe continues, “hey calm down! I thought it was pretty cool so I thought you guys would like it” Nate explains, “Mike back me up here” Nate says, I drove all the way out here for cave drawings. Of course I’m gonna be disappointed, I look down at the ground and then look back up at Nate in disappointment, “Chloe’s right this was a waste of our damn time” I say, “whatever you guys are so lame” Nate says in anger. Chloe and Nate begin to argue and I just stand there and watch them argue until I notice something on the cave walls. I take a closer look at the cave walls and I notice lines around the characters in the cave drawings.

For a minute I think that their just some dumb part of the drawing but then I notice that the lines lead to a another part of the cave. In pure curiosity I take out my phone and turn on the flash and I begin following the lines in the drawing. They lead me to a different part of the cave and I see an outline of a hand, that’s weird. I get a strange feeling and I slowly put my hand on the drawing of the hand, “huh must be nothin-” I say, but I’m cut off by a strange feeling throughout my entire body that quickly turns into pain.

All the lines in the cave begin to glow blue, and my veins do too, and finally my eyes begin to glow too. “What the hell is happening” Nate yells, “Mike are you okay!” Chloe yells while panicking, “MIKE!” Chloe yells, the cave begins to rumble as small rocks slowly fall from the ceiling. Nate and Chloe’s voice began to fade away as the pain got worse. I felt tugging at my shirt and heard someone crying “please don’t die, Mike please, please don’t die” Chloe cries, I can hear her, I wanna tell her it’s gonna be okay, I wanna hug her and run out this damn cave but I can’t. The pain is unbearable. I feel like I’m dying and I can’t do anything about it.

The pain hurts too much and I pass out. I wake up in some kind of white void, on a white bed, with white blankets, where the hell am I, I look around and I see a woman in a white dress, “hello boy, it is nice to meet you” she says, “Sup”, I say while waving at her, “hey can you tell me where I am? And who you are? And what’s happening to me?” I ask, she laughs a bit, “ah I see you have many questions and they will be answered” she continues, “you’re between life and death, limbo is what I like to call it and I am the pure embodiment of life”.

What is happening to me “I know this all must be very scary but the cave drawings should’ve explained all of this” she explains, “I um didn’t really pay attention to the cave drawings” I say nervously, she turns from very smiley to shocked “that explains a bit” she says, I look around a bit and I get up, I walk closer to the women, “please explain to me what’s happening?” I ask, she smiles and looks at the ground and than back at me “you’re becoming immortal” she explains, “I’m w-what” I stutter, “immortal you will live forever”, she says, I stare at her in shock, I’ll outlive everyone in my life, an eighty year plan to live is now infinite.

Everything begins to fade as I pass out and wake back up in the cave as it’s rumbling and getting ready to crumble. I take my hand off the wall and try to run out of the cave before it falls on top of me. Please don’t get crushed, please don’t get crushed, I run as fast as I can and then I see the exit of the cave “Yes, yes, YES!”, I yell, but before I can leave the exit gets completely blocked off by rocks falling from the ceiling.

Goddammit, I run to the rocks and try to move them out the way but before I can rocks quickly fall down from the ceiling, crushing me.
